Product Reviews

A Very Good Value With Decent Performance

I wanted to spend a bit of time setting up my TM800P610L before I posted my thoughts. I’ve been using an ASUS VivoTab 8 (M81C) for over almost three years, which has held up quite well through regular drops and slips, but with the VivoTab 8 starting to lose consistency in color display, I thought an upgrade to a 19202x1200 IPS tablet was in order. The price point and specifications for the TM800P610L were too good to pass up.NuVision really hit the mark. This is a thin, light and well balanced tablet, The marked ports and slots on the back plate of the tablet were a nice touch. The display is really tremendous and responsive, and coupled with the processing capability of the Intel Atom Z3735F offers a smother feel in running Windows 10 compared to the Z3745 Quad Core Atom in the M81C. Wifi connectivity is running well without issues. The sound playback quality on the speakers is passable but not exceptional when playing back higher-bit rate encoded MP3 and FLAC files under Microsoft Groove, but the sound quality through the headphone jack with a good set of heaphones is very pleasing. Streaming video playback through Microsoft Edge is very smooth, and again, having the IPS display really helps. As for the MicroSD slot, I have a 128GB ADATA microSDXC Class 10 Memory Card formatted and working with NTFS; it’s formatted capacity came in at 117GB and has been running well. I/O speed was decent; I was able to copy over approximately 3GB of ePub formatted books from a USB 3.0 Flash Drive to the MicroSD card, using the Micro USB OTG adapter cable that was bundled with the NuVision tablet, in two minutes and forty-five seconds. Again, decent performance.Downloading the latest updates for Windows 10 was time consuming and really needed to be in place before using the TM800P610L regularly, but this is something that I consider an inconvenience with Windows 10 and not an issue with NuVision’s hardware. Also of note was that with the built in 32GB eMMC drive in the tablet, there was about 15GB of free diskspace after I had all of the updates in place; the formatted eMMC drive capacity is 28.3GB. The lack of bloatware and extras are very much appreciated.A copule of little details stand out to me that really work better with the NuVision TM800P610L compared to the M81C. The auto rotation between portrait and landscape display modes is solid and very smooth on the TM800P610L. I was also pleased that I could turn on and off my Wifi connection in Windows 10 through the Network Settings applet in the task bar at will without having to restart the tablet to pick up the Wifi connection again with the M81C. I usually keep the Wifi off to stretch out the battery charge levels a bit more since I primarily read and listen to music on my tablet. If you’re looking for a solid, well performing 8” Windows 10 tablet for under $100, I think you’d be very hard pressed to find a better value than the NuVision TM800P610L. Now, when will NuVision or ASUS come out with an 10.5” or 11” tablet with 128GB of internal storage, Bluetooth, 802.11 b/g/n or ac, with a Micro USB 3.0 connector and mini HDMI port with 4GB of memory running a higher end Atom or M Series CPU for under $200? Until then, I’m sure the TM800P610L will work quite well.Other accessories I have in use are Case Logic Quick Flip Case for 8” Tablets (CQUE-3108) and a Zebra 1.0mm Telescopic Stylus Pen. For headphones, the Sennheiser HD 239 pairs up well.

I like the tablet better after the upgrade

I purchased this to see how well an inexpensive tablet would do running Windows 10. My iPad was getting rather long in the tooth. I had misgivings, but for this price, there isn’t much to lose. I was surprised at how well this little thing works and what it can do.The processor is not a power house and with just 2GB of memory, it is limited. Low-powered processors have improved quite a lot in recent years. To put it into perspective, this processor doesn’t benchmark significantly lower than the processor in the Desktop computer that I used five years ago, and it did everything I needed it to do. Admittedly, I had more memory. The tablet takes a while to set up, and doesn’t give you the option to log in with your Microsoft account initially, but you do have the chance to change that shortly, for those who want to experience the added convenience of MS services. After running Windows Update, you’ll notice that you still won’t have the Anniversary Update, released in Mid-2016. In order to get it, you’ll need to download the Update Assistant from the Microsoft website. I had concerns about the upgrade, because I only had 17GB of room on the C: drive, but they were unfounded. I did make a recovery USB drive first. It takes a very long time to write all of the necessary files to the thumb drive, during which, the tablet is running on battery power. I’d suggest starting the process only after fully charging the tablet. After the files for the update download, the update process takes a very long time. you’ll want to leave it plugged in, and don’t put it into a bag. The little device will put out some heat. I like the tablet better after the upgrade.I would recommend adding a MicroSD card, and changing the default installation location for programs and working directories to it. Otherwise, your 32GB system drive will fill up quickly. I am fairly new to Windows, having used a mixture of GNU/Linux, BSD and Macintosh computers for the last decade and a half. I’m still trying to suss out the comparative benefits of universal applications vs standard desktop applications, but this little tablet is capable of using both. Mobile Office seems perfectly capable for most of the tasks that I’d want to stare at an 8-inch screen for any length of time to do. With an HDMI cable, Bluetooth mouse, and keyboard this thing could handle most of my computing needs, in a pinch.

Five Stars

Great tablet for the money!

awesome tablet

would recommend this to other people

Five Stars

Impressive product.

Its better than going to a Gym, it worked out fine.

It was a gift to a friend and as I’m writing this its being used with its portability instead of a bulky laptop

great win10 tablet

great win10 tablet. add a keyboard and Bluetooth mouth, can be a basic laptop. I like the HDMI output which I can connect to big screen tv.

Great concept, failed to charge properly after just a few months

While it worked and charged correctly, I really enjoyed this little tablet. I even managed to get some coding done in Java via Intellij of all things.

Not worth the money

Did not perform as advertised screen too small couldn’t see it hard to get it to expand could not return it

Nice Tablet AND a great LEARNING TOOL

I purchased mine way back in November of 2016. An amazing tablet for the price, but SLOW for many uses, including my intended use. So it sat on a shelf for months.

Stay away!

In the name of all things holy, stay away from this tablet. I have had to return the same model TWICE now.

No sound

It’s nice but wish I’d known I was buying a device without working sound.
