The most compact and affordable 4K projector

I was waiting for such a long time until 4K projectors will be affordable. Due to my husband work, we move a lot from state to state and the last time, the moving company damaged our TV, which we noticed after signing the documents that everything was fine. That happened with us before a couple of years ago. So long ago I dreamt about the projector, but I didn’t want anything less than 4K, as I wanted an amazing picture quality. Now, when 4K projectors are the same price as 4K TV (like Samsung and LG), I think, that the price is reasonable. It arrived a few weeks ago and we are very happy with it. I like that it’s very compact and lightweight. The build quality and finish are excellent. The bodywork is a gloss white, while the offset lens assembly has a nice copper finish; it looks suitably premium. There are lots of port on the back of the projector, but mostly we are using HDMI, to connect it to the laptop. Setup is straightforward. Zoom and focus are manual, while vertical lens shift is achieved via a pop-up knob. It’s a bit of a fiddle, but once set it isn’t something that you’ll need to revisit. There are a lot of different modes, but our favorite are Standard, Movie, Dark Cinema and Game. And gaming experience is nothing like I’ve had before. “Tomb Raider” had opened for me from a new perspective, in the Game mode, the picture is sharp and dynamic. I love it!Standard picture parameters include Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Tint, Color temperature, and Gamma, while the Advanced menu opens up RGB gain/bias, AcuEngine control, Dynamic Black and HDR (presented as a sliding scale between 0-4).There’s an onboard sound system, but, to be completely honest it’s a bit quiet for our family, so we connected it to our old sound system.Of course, the best time to watch movies or play games on this projector is evening or night time. But recently we bought the blackout curtains, so now we can enjoy it even during the day. There are limitations, though. The projector, perhaps unsurprisingly, can’t manage a deep black. This results in some occasional empty pools of dark gray, rather than shadow detail. It didn’t bother me, as I know that for deep black I should go for LG OLED TV.Overall, it is not perfect and brand OLED TV would be much better in picture quality, but it would be silly to compare these two. I like that this projector is portable and I can have 4K experience with it. There are some minor flaws, which I can live with, as they are not crucial, so I would still recommend this projector if you decided to buy one.READ MORE

Sometimes it’s amazing…

I knew in advance that these things needed fine tuning. Somethings look great, for example Netflix has ‘Ultra’ offerings that look great whereas ‘Firefly’ episodes as aren’t so hot so that’s where I’m going to have to work on,One problem is that though the projector has two HDMI ports only one if them is UHD 4K, which isn’t so great if you have two high quality sources… I’m going to have to add the cost of a switch to the projector, hadn’t counted on that.Update: someone on an AV enthusiast forum pointed out that most people using a projector like this have a real audiovisual system (formerly called an Amplifier in days of old) and I don’t… Turns out that recent AV Units do everything a switch could do plus a lot more and unlike a simple switch an AV will be sure to deal with all the various protocols needed to run a projector. So, I’m giving this five stars, buyers be sure you have something with HDCP 2.2, etc. to run this device.
