Works well, especially on our dashboard which is very asymmetrical and has no flat areas to mount a traditional phone holder. However, make sure you dust your dashboard and not use Armor All or similar shine products that will make the surface greasy/slick or else this thing will go flying. You’ll also need to be careful with the size of the phone mount and the phone. We used a standard windshield mount and when I put my 5.7” phone in, this thing wasn’t heavy enough to keep it from tipping easily on turns. However a smaller 5.2” phone works just fine, so you’ll have to experiment. Overall we’re very happy with it, I just have to get something else for my larger phone.
I couldn’t be more pleased. My husband ordered this for me when we replaced my old Garmin with a new one, because the windshield mount of my previous unit just never worked well for me. I am so happy with this. It just sits right there on the dash and does not slide around. I read some other reviews where people said it did slide around on their dashboards, but it does not on mine. It does not adhere permanently so it can be moved at will. But I have driven around in all kinds of situations since I got mine and it stays in place. The Garmin magnetically sticks on the mount. It really works for me and I highly recommend it.
It wasn’t clear to me when I bought this that I needed one of those suction cup thingies to go with it. The Garmin I bought it for was second hand and I didn’t have those pieces. However, my review is about this item, not my short sightedness. This thing sat on my dash (once I got the parts I needed) through trips I made through four states. I don’t usually do that much traveling but the fact that I did so right after I bought this thing allowed me to give it a true road test. Yes, it performed fantastically and I would recommend it. It is a great item.
I had my Garmin mounted with the adhesive circle on my dash, and after about two years it fell off on a hot day. I decided to go with a friction mount as a replacement because there wouldn’t be any more problems.I drive a Honda Civic, so there’s not a ton of dash space – pretty standard. This doesn’t slide around and isn’t so big that it’s obnoxious. When I do need to renew the suction cup, it’s much easier than the dash-mounted adhesive. And with all AmazonBasics products I’ve ordered (iPhone cables, camera bags, etc.) this is well-made and at a great price. Highly recommend!
Our new car has a rounded dash and our gps will not fit on it, so we found this. It works great on a dash that has the dome in the middle. It is heavy and has a “sticky” substance on the back to help hold it in place. So far we have not had a problem keeping it in place through curvy roads. We are please with this purchase. It is performing as we expected it would.
I bought it for use with my phone holder (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P5LFAIQ) in my car. It works great and the base sticks great!Only problem is that my car’s dashboard isn’t 100% smooth so it tends to slide around a bit. Not so much of a fault of this product, as it sticks to other surfaces and other dashboards, but if your dashboard is slightly rough (not smooth) it won’t stick well. I took off a star so that in case the makers are reading these reviews, they can be “encouraged” to improve its stickyness on the not-so-smooth dashboards like mine.My workaround is to put it to the left corner of my dashboard (to the left of the steering) so that the bump on the dashboard behind the steering acts like a slope that prevents it from moving around. That works pretty well so I’m happy.
I generally like AmazonBasics products as they are comparatively inexpensive while with good quality. However, I am disappointed with this particular one. I bought this and Garmin portable friction mount at the same time to place in my two cars. It worked great initially and I almost thought I wasted my money on Garmin mount which was almost double in the price with same functionality. My feeling got changed when just after a few months of use the GPS on this mount started to fall off frequently. Few more weeks and the plastic on the mount started to deform and now it is completely useless as the top plastic holder has a large visible bump due to heat. Lasted for about 6-7 months which is not bad given the lower price but Garmin mount is working just fine in the other car that prompted this review.
I received the sandbag mount from Amazon promptly after ordering. Couldn’t ask for better shipping and delivery. I have put the product to work with disappointing results.I drive a new Ford Taurus sedan with a fairly large, sloping dash. The center of the dash is metallic and more of a pronounced slope and the mount will not work there at all. When placed on the flat portion of the dash the mount has no resistance to sliding. It has sufficient weight to reasonably hold the GPS but if there is a sudden turn or other activity the mount slides across the dash or on tothe floor. As a consequence I will see if I can add anything to the underside of the mount to keep it from sliding or falling.A good idea but sadly lacking in any form of resistance to sliding on the dash.
OK
I really like the price and simple design but I think this is more for GPS devices than smart phones.
