Product Reviews

Perfect, no complaints

Even though DVDs are becoming more and more obsolite, I thought it would be nice to include one in my PC build.Pros:-not much to say, works perfectly no complaintsCons:-can get REALLY loud sometimes, but isn’t a big dealThis product is pretty straight foreward. Uses one SATA data connector and one SATA power connector. It worked with no problems for me. Just lock it into place, put in the cables, and you’re good to go.

Works Well!

Still using it to this day! I’ve used it to play music, install games, and even burned countless CD’s on it and it still works well! Only complaint is that it has an audible whirring noise when it first starts up. Kind of annoying but other than that it’s cool!

Replaced an old PATA drive wonderfully!

Purchased this Asus DRW-24B1ST drive to replace the old standard DELL PATA DVD-RW in a XPS 400 system currently running Windows 10 (Home-32bit/4GigRAM). Installation notes: I had to buy a Molex to SATA power adapter and looked around for a spare SATA data cable that I had laying around. After the new product was installed and system powered on I went into BIOS and activated the SATA port and deactivated the PATA drive. I tested this drive by copying files to a DVD+R disk. Windows 10 recognized and provided drivers for this new drive and was able to use it right away. I did not install any of the ‘Green’ technology software from a CD that comes with it however. The drive I received already had the latest firmware installed.

Used to install Windows 7 on new PC build

Great drive. The only reason I bought it for was just to install an OS on my new PC build. It’s a bit noisy but I wasn’t sitting watching paint dry while the OS did its thing so I didn’t take notice after leaving. I’ll probably use it to install some other programs and what not and its great for the price. Just make sure you buy from a reliable vendors. Check their reviews!!! Can’t stress that.

Broke

Broke in a month. A rubber band and white plastic gear shot out of it when I ejected a disk. I thought I would be able to work around it by manually closing the tray but no luck.

… little noise when spinning up.

Makes noise when spinning up. Try too load a program for my printer from disk and had to insert disk two separate times to get the disk to read. On the first attempt the disk spun badly out of balance. I am not very happy with this drive. I am not sure but believe the drive may have taken some abuse in shipping. It was in a box that was twice the size it needed to be with NO packing inside to cushion the drive.

This thing broke within a month of use. The …

This thing broke within a month of use. The open disc button doesn’t open the device and Asus wanted me to pay for shipping to get it fixed. So far the last two things I bought from Asus have had issues so I’m beginning to get wary of this company.

I love the Power to go 8

I love the Power to go 8, software that comes with this DVD optical drive. Power to go 8 software has a feature that lets you mount a ISO or disc image onto your computer in windows 10 and the mount is recognized as if I had the actual DVD or CD in this Asus optical drive thus allowing to run the app or program or game that would normally require a physical disc to be inserted into the Asus optical drive. This Asus optical drive is very dependable and well built.

Works like a Champ

Love it. And with the price, can’t go wrong. Saw someone said that it’s “loud” and can get annoying. Ehhh, it’s not that bad honestly.

Five Stars

Works great for the build I did for a client.

Never a problem.

Excellent. I’ve used this drive in many builds with zero failures. Good value for little money!

Five Stars

Works just great

Forgot the milk

When I received this item it was missing all cables and screws. I did not have time to return this, so I used screws cables I had from a previous PC build.

Best I’ve Bought In Years

I had pretty much come to the conclusion that you couldn’t buy a DVD/CD burner anymore that lasted more than a few hundred burns before it burned itself out.

Five Stars

works great

Niice addition to a custom build

I know people don’t use these things much anymore since flash drives have all but replaced them but with a new custom build computer I figure whats another $20 for a nice DVD ROM…

Stardard fair for DVD cant go wrong with Asus
