It’s already having some problems after a couple of months. Sometimes it will struggle to load web pages to the point of forcing me to kill them and reload– and this gets worse and worse until I restart the computer. The problems will start up again within a day or two, sometimes within minutes. Additionally, it will sometimes freeze for nearly a minute when I’m closing out of a computer game program. Manageable problems, though, and other than that the computer has been fine.(Also, there’s no light indicating whether or not the number-lock is active…)
I tried to set this up and initially the Touchpad Mouse worked, but it then disappeared. I went to ASUS Chat line and the person told me to download three programs from their web site that would correct the problem. I did that, and still the touchpad mouse would not work. I then called ASUS support service. They told me to reset the entire computer over again, and with the three downloaded ASUS programs the mouse would work. I did and it didn’t! I finally made a third contact, via phone again, with ASUS to tell them the mouse was still not working. The individual went through all the same steps again…and when it didn’t work he said I must have a bad computer (laptop). I’d always heard good things about ASUS, but this why NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE! Everyone kept telling me this is a Microsoft 10 problem…and that may be. But if it is, then why doesn’t ASUS solve the problem between their units and MS 10 before sending them out? I took an entire evening and early morning (up until 2:30am) trying to get someone else problem fixed for my computer. I have ordered a different brand laptop. Hoping for the best!!!!
After using this computer for a while I can officially say that I regret buying it. It is faster than the last computer I had (which was why I was looking for a new computer) but other than that I’m not super happy with it. I didn’t think that the lack of back lit keyboard would be a problem but I find it difficult to tell the difference between the computer being off and just asleep. The entire computer feels very cheap to me (I guess you get what you pay for). The keys don’t push down very smoothly and the space bar is especially frustrating since you have to hit it really far in the middle in order for it to work properly. The touch-pad also took some getting used to. It is very plastic feeling and sometimes squeaked when i first used it. Also there isn’t nearly as much space on this computer as I might have hoped and the webcam is awful. I appreciate that it has a cd drive which I actually haven’t used yet and that it is fairly light. The battery life, although at first super great, it’s now down to just a few hours less than a month later. The charging cable again is very thin and cheap and feels like it will break if you accidentally roll over it with a chair. I guess for the price it’s an ok computer but not what I was hoping it would be.
Overall, I have to say that this is a pretty sweet laptop for the price. You pay a little extra for the SSD storage, but I believe it’s worth the premium. The system boots very quickly and I’ve found that it opens up some heavy apps like Photoshop without much effort. It’s only 256GB, so that is a small trade-off. But with cloud storage, etc. there are plenty of ways around that limitation. On the downside, I wouldn’t say this is the sharpest screen I’ve ever seen. But that’s to be expected for a budget laptop. The only problem I’ve run into so far is that a Windows 10 update left the touchpad non-functioning. On the bright side, ASUS tech support got back to me right away and helped me find a solution (basically resetting the system to factory specs - not a big deal since I had just opened up the box). The keyboard is nice and roomy. I have carpal tunnel syndrome and use a Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard on my desktop. I have to say, for a laptop keyboard, this ASUS model hasn’t bothered my wrists so far.In this price range, finding a system that has a good bit of RAM, an SSD and a 7th gen i5 processor is tough. This model has all 3 and I’m very happy with it so far.
So far so good. I bought four of these at one time, and I did have an issue on three of these after the initial setup. I had no touchpad control. When I hooked up a mouse, the mouse worked, but the touchpad would not. I contacted Asus tech support. One support agent left me hanging, the second tech support agent suggested something stupid, like telling me I should purchase a backup copy of Windows and reinstall it (or something equally ridiculous). The third tech support dude had my answer. I had to uninstall some Asus program, then reinstall it with the link he gave me. It worked, and I am now good with the laptops I purchased. Had a minor issue–when I changed the resolution it wouldn’t stay at the setting I set it at. The next day I had to reset it for my needs again. As far as I know, this only happened on one of the four I purchased. Not sure if it is an ongoing thing or not.One thing to note, there is no indication of whether the numbers lock is on or off. No light or anything that I can see. This machine boots up fast. I’m up in five seconds. I’m assuming it’s because of the solid state drive. These are my first computers with SSD’s, so I didn’t know what to expect, but very quick on the startup.
This laptop is the BIGGEST HEADACHE! The system is having internal issues and does not work properly. I’ve had to ship it off to the ASUS service center, they returned it with no change to the issue and now have to send it in again to the ASUS service center for them to try to fix the issues again. Its so frustrating!
I love my laptop! Best laptop purchase I’ve ever made! I will never go back to DELL!!!!
I have had this laptop for almost a year and have had no issues. Works as intended, travels well and fairly fast.
No complaints other than the headphone started to occasionally crackle after a short time using it. Decent laptop overall.
I bought this laptop aproximately four months ago. Yesterday, while I was using it, some odd collors appeared on the screen and then it shut down. Now it wont turn up again.
Bought this for my niece as a good, dependable, sturdy compact computer. I have not been disapointed!
The specs are great, but the screen and speaker lack quality.
Nice top for a college freshman….
Mom likes it. No issues in approximately 6 months. The color is not the same in real life. It’s decent.
I would really have loved to give this product more stars, but Asus’ website is brutal.I am a tech guy with 15 plus years of building and installing windows.
