Product Reviews

Thank you Detroit Packing Company for selling such and awesome product.

We were having issues with our AT&T Microcell not working on a random basis. We call AT&T tech support and they sent us a new one at no charge under warranty. The new one worked right off, for a week. Then right back to the same issue. I called tech support again and they said we were not getting a GPS lock is why it was not working. The AT&T tech said they do not support the use of an external GPS antenna. Well I bought this one and plugged it into the antenna port in the back and viola, the Microcell started working correctly, locked in within 15 minutes. Thanks for nothing AT&T. Thank you Detroit Packing Company for selling such and awesome product.

Perfect to extend MicroCell range

Perfect to extend the GPS signal for an AT&T MicroCell. We have a basement storm shelter at work, but it’s surrounded by enough metal and concrete that there’s no way you’ll get a cell signal down there. But for a storm shelter where we could have 40 people in there, that’s a bad thing! I was able to use a MicroCell in the basement and run this antenna up through an air duct to the second floor to pick up a GPS signal. Now, in the even that my staff is in the storm shelter (not uncommon in Nebraska), we can still use our cell phones to reach family members if needed.

Works great.

I bought this to use with my AT&T MicroCell. It allows you to use a MicroCell without having to place the MicroCell unit on a windowsill to get a GPS lock. This antenna has a generous 25-foot range. Plug it in to the MicroCell, put the GPS box on a windowsill, reboot, and you’re good to go. I can now put the MicroCell in a better location in the house which gives me better reach. I think the MicroCell should really come bundled with this. A must-buy for MicroCell users.

Delivers!

We have an AT&T microcell that we use to improve our local cell phone signal. For a long time I found it annoying to have to move it up to the window and wait for it to connect every time I reset it (I am impatient, and the microcell is also normally situated in a somewhat hidden location that requires pushing some furniture out of the way to extract). I finally looked into getting an antenna and was surprised at how inexpensive they were - and it was money well spent, since it can now reset without anything more than the push of a button (or even through the online control). I can’t compare this to other similar items that might cost more, but the performance of this one has been very good and I have nothing I can even nit pick about. I would buy it again and would recommend it to friends.

Read the review that claimed this would resolve the microcell …

Read the review that claimed this would resolve the microcell going offline with blinking lights and dropping calls even through it wasn’t showing a GPS problem. Seemed unlikely but thought I would gamble at this price. It exceeded my expectations because the MicroCell has been rock solid fort the couple on months since I connected this. Even though the antenna is just sitting on a window ledge so not an ideal view of the sky. It doesn’t make sense to me that the MicroCell was having GPS problems and not showing GPS lock failures but I don’t care this has resolved the frustrating problems I was having.

Wouldn’t recommend.

Very pooorly made. I should have returned this since it broke the first time I tried to use it!We plugged it into our microcell and the metal part that sticks out broke off and stayed inside our microcell port. So I have to verrry carefully make sure that the teensy, super fine wire at the end of this does not bend as I plug it in. We don’t unplug it much, so I haven’t bothered to return it, but honestly, it is so cheaply made. We don’t get a constant microcell connection either. I’ll probably search for another brand. Not recommended.

Antennae doesn’t work with newer AT&T 3G Microcells

I’ve bought two AT&T Microcells off Amazon over the past two weeks; one for my house and another for my parent’s house, and I bought this antennae at the same time I bought the first one. Both of the Microcells work very well and have increased my cell signal from 1 bar to 4-5 bars. Looks like I don’t need it anyway, but if I did, neither of the two Microcells has any place to plug in this antennae. That said, the cost was so nominal that it’s hardly worth the trouble of returning. It was only $5-6, but if I had it to do again, I’d have saved myself the money.

Extremely cheap construction, unreliable connector.

I purchased this antenna to improve my ATT MicroCell installation. Simply getting it up onto a window was not effective, so I drilled a hole through the house wall in preparation of mounting it outside on a small shelf I fabricated out of sheet metal. When I tried to remove the antenna connector from the MicroCell, the connector pulled apart, leaving the outboard-most piece of the connector firmly seated in the MicroCell and the center conductor protruding from the cable. I am an old amateur radio op and know to never pull/tug a connector off of a rig by the cable, and did not do so in removing this connector. I simply grabbed the fat molded-rubber end piece and pulled straight out (it is a MCX-type push/pull fit, not threaded). I examined the broken connector and found no compression ring, marks, or sleeve.I was looking for a bargain when I bought this antenna and got bit in the behind in doing so. You get what you pay for, right? Anyway, avoid this device if you ever plan on having to unplug the antenna, or else fabricate something to aid removal. Also, while the antenna does have an MCX connector, the product photo shows a ribbed metal collar at the distal end of the cable … which is what seduced me into buying this unit … but that’s not what I received … I got the rubber collar version which delightedly does not let you see what’s under the covers. So I’m off to look for an alternative.
