I first bought this charger on June 2015 (Amazon US). It serves my needs really well so I just bought a second unit from Amazon Canada and I wanted to write a review to help clear up some confusion around the product.Portability & Size- Overall footprint is smaller than an Apple 1 amp charger thanks to the folding prongsPerformanceThis charger does output the stated 5V/2.4amp. However, keep in mind that the amperage will be split (not always evenly) between the two ports when charging two devices that draws more than 5V/1A each.*There are some reviews that say that each port is limited to 1.2amp which is NOT true. Each port can output up to 2.4amps as long as you don’t have another device plugged in the other port. For example, the iPad Mini charges at 5.19V/1.85A when plugged in by itself but when I plug in the Asus Zen Powerbank in the other port, the charging rate of the iPad Mini will drop down to 4.92V/1.48A. Conversely, the Asus Zen Powerbank charges at 5.19V/1.91A when plugged in by itself but when I plug in the iPad Mini in the other port, the Powerbank will only draw 4.87V/0.92A.Room for improvement:Matte Finish (gloss black finish show is not shy to fingerprints)Bright colours (a small black charger isn’t the easiest thing to find especially in a backpack)Other considerations:The port orientation is correct unlike other Aukey chargers. This give charger gives a bit of a coil whine. This charger does get hot especially when you have two devices plugged in.It will most likely block another outlet on a regular power strip.Updated markings:- Aukey has changed the USB ports from black to green and updated some of the labelling to only show “2.4A” instead of the original “2.4A Per Port” since this confused a lot of people to think that it could output a total of 4.8 amps. The coil whine and the small white LED light (power indicator) doesn’t make this a practicable bedside/overnight charger unless you plug it across the room. However, this serves as great travel charger that you can keep in your bag for on-the-go charging.Personal suggestion: Buy the white version if possible so you can help avoid the look of fingerprints and have an easier time finding the charger. If you found this review helpful, please help out other potential buyers by clicking the “Yes” button below!
The iPhone 6 charges quicker with this Aukey that with the apple wall charger it cam with. I just tested them with a kill a watt P3 and a Drok USB meter. (see attached photo.) I compared it to the apple cube that came with the iphone 6 and the apple brick that came with my ipad. iphone charger (5 Watts, 1 amp out), ipad charger (7 watts, 1.2 amps out), Aukey (9 Watts, 1.4 amps out). I think my test equipment is working fine. So the results are not quite what’s advertised. But Aukey did better than the ipad charger. That makes it well worth the 8 bucks to me.
I only purchased it a few days ago, but can’t believe I made it so long without it. Our previous dual usb chargers always had trouble charging two devices at the same time. I tried various types from high end travel chargers to usb wall plates and always ran into issues. So when we started having to fight over who could use the wireless charging pad when their battery was dead I knew it was time to look for another solution. So far this charger has been a real power house and it has a MUCH SMALLER footprint than the other charging solutions. Overall I’m very happy with it…
UPDATE: I reached out to customer support about the issue with their charger. They were very friendly and they very quickly sent a replacement charger that works as advertised with no adverse effects. The product works great for quickly charging two devices simultaneously. I would recommend this product based on the quality of the product and customer support.Original post:WARNING PLEASE READWhen the product arrived there were no signs of damage on the packaging. The product looks great and is very portable; however, when I plug it into the wall with a device charging sparks come out of the outlet. I try 5 different cables with the same result. The LED indicator on the charger lights up, the unit makes a crackling sound, and sparks start coming out of the wall socket. I tied this unit with an extension cable and other wall outlets around the house with the same result. Please be careful using this product. If anyone would like proof, I will provide a video.
Aukey had a deal on these little wall chargers, so it showed up on Amazon’s deals page. I’ve been wanting a multi charge that was compact, but everyone I saw previously was huge. Why make a two port plug the same size as a four plug? What’s the point? Anyway, I bought two, thinking for $6, it was worth it. I was afraid they would charge slower than my larger chargers, because again, why would they make them so large for no apparent reason? Luckily my fears were quickly put to rest. I bought more as gifts, and I alway have one in my work and carryall bags. They’re just a tad larger than the little one port blocks that come with iPads and iPhones. It’s a no brainer, if you’re even considering this product, click to add it to your cart.
This thing is fast! It definitely charges a lot faster than the stock apple charging block. Plus it has an additional usb port, what more could you ask for? It also has a white led status light indicating it is receiving power from the wall socket. Overall this thing is amazing and it works with any other gadgets you can charge via USB. For clarification I am using it charge my iPhone 7 plus and I haven’t timed it but it certainly knocks a good chunk of time off the standard charging time. I’ve charged my phone getting ready for work and it easily boosted it 20% within well under 30 minutes.
This seems solidly made. The folding wall plug doesn’t flop around when you plug it into the socket. It’s compact size is good for fitting in with other plugs in the panel. The only thing about it that I didn’t notice in my research is, it has an indicator light by the USB ports. It lights up the area at night so, if you need total darkness to sleep, that’s something to consider. I have mine down low by the bed and it works for me because it lets me see the floor if I get up in the dark. Only had this for a week. Depending on longevity, I’ll possibly give it all five stars.
Absolute rubbish. Went in the bin after a couple of days. They don’t work.
This item broke within a few weeks of using it. I used it for my Samsung galaxy s6 and google nexus 10 tablet it eventually would not charge unless i wrapped the cord around the…
Very dissapointed in this charger lead kept falling out of the phone socket and two days after it arrived now not charging at at all on any of our phones
Inexpensive, works well.
A+
Very good
Stopped working under a month.
Product blew up on normal mains power, can only assume cheap import and not tested.
Awesome charger
comments powered by DisqusWorks fine, but it makes a terrible high-pitched noise when charging.
