The finish on this sd card reader is slightly more metallic than what you get from Apple. If you were wondering, this sd card reader from BASEQI matches with their line of dust covers. So, the consistency is there. I love how precise and flush it sits inside the body of the macbook.In conclusion, it’s a wise investment if you don’t want to destroy the internal sd card reader on your +$2,000 macbook.P.S. I haven’t seen this level of precision for an accessory on any other laptop model.

This product is the same great idea as others. However the unit I received was poorly manufactured and the front sits at an angle. As such it puts pressure on the bottom of the sd slot and will not seat in the laptop. I then proceeded to spend an entire WEEK trying to get the manufacturer to replace my unit or support me but he squandered it asking for more details and to resend the same pictures again and again. Stay away from this product and get the more expensive one if you want quality. I have no doubt some units Baseqi makes might work, but it seems to be luck of the draw.Update 11/16/2017: After leaving this review (the above is unchanged) and returning my bad product via Amazon BASEQi did contact me again and shipped me a tested and working unit from overseas. That unit works as designed and seems to be a higher quality unit that what I had received from Amazon. Regardless they did come through in the end so I’m raising my score by 2 stars with the stipulation that the initially provided unit I did NOT like, but the replacement (weeks later) I do.
MicroSD Adapter
Have been using with a 32gb micro sd card. Haven’t had it fail or haven’t had the card fall out. Have had it for a month. Speeds on transfers between my mac and the sd are spot on. Going to buy a 200gb micro sd when I get the chance. Was skeptical due to other reviews, but so far so good. I want to buy another for my other MacBook. Good alternative to having to carry an external hard drive. Currently have some of my music on the 32gb card. Going to buy the 200gb card to load all my music (160gb) and other remote data is doesn’t take up my immediate hard drive space any longer.
Wish it was cheaper but I’m happy.
It is doing exactly as they said it would.Pros: a) fits very flush with the mbp b) supported my 200GB card c) no need for a tool to remove it; just use your finger nail.cons: a) the micro SD card is very difficult to pull out and swap. b) can be hard to get out but I haven’t had to eject the adapter yet.overall: I’m happy I got it.Recommendations:*Take your time to make sure you get the correct size for your computer. not all mbp have the same depth in the SD reader location.*make sure you put a card in the adapter that you see yourself using long term so that you don’t swap it out often.
Expanded my Macbook Pro’s storage.
So far so good. It didn’t detect when I first plugged it in but I rebooted and it popped right up.Getting it out is really hard but I think that’s a good thing. No one will try and steal this nor do you have to worry about it falling out.It’s fairly fast, I mean it’s not going to set any records, but it can stream HD video off the card without any issue.

This thing is excellent. I have no card read issues with my sandisk microSD cards. It is not easy to remove due to how snugly it fits in and having nothing to grab onto, but I find this to be a good feature. I don’t want it falling out or for anyone to easily pop it out. It is an excellent “second drive” for the less than adequate 250GB SSD on my MBP15.
Solid product, no more protruding memory stick!
I bought this product because I feared that I would one day snap off the protruding SD card. I simply bought a 256gb Micro SD card, put it in the BaseQi adapter and pushed it all the way in. Data speeds seemed the same as the normal SD card and this thing sits entirely flush. Really a great look with the MacBook Pro. The aluminum finish matches the Mac’s aluminum finish perfectly. This is a really nice way to add some storage to your MacBook Pro. It’s not something you’re going to remove and replace daily, but if you’re low on space and want a way to unobtrusively add some storage for less frequently used or temporary files - this is just absolutely wonderful.
