First off my battery was charged a few weeks prior to installing this panel, at the time of instillation the battery read 12.23V. So I ran a week long test prior to writing this review. I’m using it to maintain the battery on my riding mower. I read all the reviews and decided to proceed with this solar panel instead of a larger one.Lets begin with the alligator clips, they are junk! The negative clip was broken upon opening, and the positive clip fell apart after a day. But, since I planned on cutting them off anyway, it did not affect my review. I’m only posting this part since some of you will be using the alligator clips as the sole means of attachment.I temporarily mounted the panel to the hood of my riding mower, so disregard the zip ties. I hooked the panel up on a sunny day and mowed the 3⁄4 acre lawn, not massive, but not a 10 minute job either. Upon completing the mowing the battery was at 12.67V. So I parked the mower next to the deck instead of the garage hoping my days of hooking the mower to the trickle charger in the garage were gone. over the next week, we had one day of scattered clouds followed by five days of thunderstorms and overcast, not a single bit of direct sunlight during those five days. At the end of the week, the battery read 12.73V.I know some of you are thinking, half a volt is nothing. But what this proves is the fact that in one afternoon, under use the battery did not loose any power as usual. In fact it charged from 12.23-12.67. Over the next six days the charger was running at less than 25% normal sunlight and the battery still charged from 12.67-12.73. I have not disconnected the charger, since I crimped on terminal end loops and hard mounted it to my battery. This also goes to prove that there is no drainage during night or bad weather, it also proves the waterproof claim.I will post an update on the 14.4V cutoff claim once/if the battery reaches that point.I am completely satisfied with this solar panel and can now leave my riding mower outside and clean up some space in the garage. To some of you this may be a sin, but my mower has been outside for years and still holds up, I keep the rust off and maintain it regularly, just need more space in the garage.UPDATE: 11 months later this thing still keeps the charged battery from draining. It sat all winter and the mower fired right up this spring, over the past 8 winters I have had to charge the battery and continue charging it once or twice a season. Still cannot comment on the 14.4V shutoff, as the Battery maintains around 12.85V-13V. The plastic is holding up well, I would recommend adding some flowable silicone to keep moisture out. I used RTV and it discolored the plastic where I applied it on the bottom edges.
Solid compact solar cell that does what it claims. I mounted this on a car hauler to keep the breakaway \ lighting battery charged. The car hauler has a motion sensor light that draws from the battery 7⁄24 now I don’t worry about a dead \ damaged battery.
After purchasing numerous jobsite radios over the years and being less than satisfied with the overall sound quality and features, we decided to just build our own. So far it is holding up well. We mounted this to the top of our stereo project. So far I have had this power an 18 amp hour sealed battery and a car stereo on a moderate level for 48 hours. I left in one spot with only about a half day of sun and it ran no problem for 48 hours. This unit has all of the bells and whistles that we could want all packaged into a 26” tool box:Solar/110v/12v poweredOnboard 18ah sealed batteryPioneer Bluetooth Head Unit64gb Onboard music storageRockford Fosgate speakersBuilt in Cell Phone signal booster4 GFCI Outlets2 12v Outlets2 USB OutletsOnboard cell charger2 Onboard Power tool Battery ChargersExtremely bright CREE LED work lights
I’m using it on my garden tractor to recharge the battery. The alternator on my tractor is not working and I would have to pull the engine to change it. I’ve attached quick disconnect terminals on it. It has worked fine so far. I am considering a small regulator to avoid overcharging.
Mounted it to the back of my shed (south side) and using it to maintain a cheap wallmart riding lawn mower battery (not SLA)… Its doing the job, if it extends the battery life and starts up every spring after sitting for months then its a win.. Seems to be durable enough, should last.
Used this to attach to my Mighty Mule gate opener. About $100 cheaper than their brand solar charger. Seems pretty sturdy, although the included base is kind of flimsy, but works. After a week seems to be working properly. For this price, if it fails, I would try another one before I paid over $100 for Mighty Mule brand one.
Less than 3 months after purchase it was dead - no output. Will have to check on the guarantee. Just checked and there is NO warranty!
Just received this panel, and am pleased with it so far. I ran a test at noon and it pushed 13V at 0.093A so about 1.2W of power. Many questions were useless on Amazon, but it DOES come with a little diode built in so you won’t lose any power at night. I ended up buying a bunch of diodes on sparkfun because nobody could answer the question. As far as weather proof, that is debatable. I am deploying these in an area with monsoons, so I will come back to this review if they die. There is no gasket, just a plastic on plastic cover, that hopefully will repel water.
Working great so far… Been out in a couple storms and still charging
CHARGES UP A STORM, SPEAKING OF STORMS, WHICH I COULD GET SOME RAIN FROM IT RIGHT NOW.
My husband purchased these and he has no complaints. That’s all I know and he doesn’t want to say more.
Did not work.
Exelent battery charger
Does a great job keeping idle batteries charged…
Works great. Trickle charge for 12 deep cycle battery used in shed for LED lighting. Great charger.
For the price it does really well.
so far works great on a moultrie game cam and modem.
