Excellent Performer & Customer Service!
I just installed this a couple of days ago and it is working perfectly, connected to my Renogy 30W solar panel. I spoke with Deltran’s excellent customer service department and found out the following:- the solar controller has a blocking diode, to prevent current reversal back from the battery to the panel at night, or when the panel is not putting out enough voltage due to cloud cover, etc.- the output side of the solar controller can be disconnected going to the battery without having to disconnect the input side coming from the solar panel. The voltage coming into the solar controller from the solar panel will not damage the controller. Be sure to use a solar panel rated between 5W - 45W, as the specs of the solar controller mention, which is also printed on the solar controller itself.- the (4) size #6 screw terminals can not be removed.I wanted to use ring terminal connectors instead of spade terminal connectors due to the spade connectors having a tendency to spread. Prior to calling Deltran, I attempted to remove the screws which met resistance after unscrewing almost all the way, so I stopped and spoke with Deltran. I’ll try to use heavier spade terminals, if the need arises. As of now, the slight spreading is not an issue due to everything being stationary.Two suggestions:1) It would be nice if Deltran made the screws removable. I assume they made them non removable so they cannot be lost, or perhaps the purpose is to make the unit more moisture resistant, where the screws enter the controller. I’m not certain though.2) Why didn’t Deltran make their Battery Tender solar controller Water Resistant or Waterproof??After all, this solar controller is meant to be used with a solar panel which obviously will be used outdoors in the environment, where it rains or snows. It’s hard to believe this was an oversight. This issue had to be discussed in one of those Research & Development meetings. Perhaps they’ll come up with a Waterproof version in the future.I’ve given this solar controller 5 Stars as it is performing well. I’ll be sure to post any updates.I have the 1.25A Battery Tender Plus and the 800mAh Battery Tender Waterproof charger which have performed flawlessly for years, and I expect the Battery Tender solar controller will also perform flawlessly.
A must for every solar battery charging system!
I purchased this product because my solar panel was wired directly to my batteries on my 5th wheel RV and I did not have any idea if it was charging correctly. I use a similar Deltran product on my Harley, my Quad, and both of my boats. I now know that my solar panel is charging and keeping my batteries charged at their full capacity. There is nothing worse than going out to your RV and finding out that your battery is dead. I highly recommend this item to anyone needing assurance that their batteries, a significant investment for sure, are being properly maintained and well charged.

I have 6 of these and they are all working great. I use them on my snowmobile trailers to keep the sled’s batteries charged while in storage for the summer. I park the trailer with the snowmobiles out in my back field far away from electricity and it’s a pain to remove all the batteries from the sleds so these solar controllers work great when tied to a solar panel. I have three 5 watt panels mounted to the roofs of my trailers and they are feeding the solar controllers which feed each sled. Works great.Can work in the winter too but you have to keep the roof clear of snow for the solar panel to work.
50 watt panels are no problem! Perfect for the boat!
This works better than expected and was the quality I expected from Battery Tender. I am using this paired with a 50 watt solar panel to charge the batteries in my boat. It says the max solar panel wattage is 45 watts but what they really mean is the max amperage is 3, which is listed on the back of the controller. I used a battery tender quick disconnect attachment with a 3 amp fuse on the input side just to be safe and haven’t had any blown fuses yet. Solar panels rarely run at the max they are capable of which only happens under perfect conditions in very intense sun(like by the equator). I can bring all the batteries back up to full charge in 6-8 hours of charging in full sun so it works great for making sure my trolling motor batteries are good to go the day before fishing.

I have a need for remote charging where there is no provided power at the storage facility where I keep my boat. I keep extra batteries on my boat and each pair has it’s own charger now with the two Battery Tender solar chargers I purchased just for them. Two batteries that unplug from the panel/charger for each pair. This will make my charging system even more awesome. I love them.

I will be using this little guy this week or so, I will be making a video for youtube as I couldn’t find any on this unit. I have pre tested this with a voltmeter and know it works so i’m hoping it controls my little float battery tending solar panel perfectly.

Dead in 10 Months
Bought in June 2014, it’s now dead. Used on 5W panel with 18VDC in. Very disappointed. Time to test the 3year warranty. We’ll see how that goes.

comments powered by DisqusIt works fine. The only problem are the exposed terminals…easily shorted so be careful. Deltran could have put enclosed terminals on this so it wouldn’t be that easy to short…
