I also bought it because I loved the way the picture looked

Although I did buy this board for functionality, I also bought it because I loved the way the picture looked! It was so my style and I was excited to flaunt it. BUT, they sent me the same board, just different colors than the picture. I was upset but im sure after I test it in the water I will be a little bit less mad.. definitely getting a better quality leash though, the one it comes with is super thin and cheap and considering the price of the board it should be better quality. i also wish it came with a leash plug instead of it being attatched to the fins

Good for beginners

This is a good board for a beginner, but to go beyond that you will need something else.I just got this board and tried it out today in small (waist to chest-high) beach break. I have been surfing for over 60 years and as I am on the high side of 70 it seemed prudent to get something soft–less damage to the body if you get hit by your own board on bigger days.I have been riding a 9’6” poly board, 2+1, concave to flat to V, so this is what I am comparing to. I also am comparing to a Greco 9’ (which I found to be much better for turns and noseriding). As far as size goes, I am 6ft, about 185lbs, with full wetsuit (which I wore today) that is closer to 190 lbs.In contrast to the decent leash provided with the Greco, the BodyGlove leash is thin and cheap. The attachment is creative but not a good idea: the leash attaches to the center fin plugs instead of to a separate leash plug. This way, if you have either a fin disaster (hit a reef) or a leash disaster (torn out on big wave), you lose both at the same time. The fins are flexible, no foil; the plugs fit nice and tight so the fins are more solidly connected than on the Greco board. You do need to wax the board lightly; there is no need to use base coat since the deck is textured. Just use your normal wax (I prefer cool water Sticky Bumps for SoCal) and put on a very light coat. This 9’ board is very fast paddling and very good glide; at least as good as my 9’6” on both counts. Catches waves very well. Does not flex and stop when you pop up, as some foamies do. A bit lighter than my 9’6” even though it has more volume. A bit lighter than the Greco 9’.The bottom is just one long flat plane (with rocker) as opposed to the Greco with its double concave. And I think the flat bottom is the reason that this board, although very easy to catch waves, does not surf well at all beyond a very low level. The initial turn is OK, but doing a cutback or other turn is like driving a truck with no power steering: totally unresponsive. I also blame the flat bottom for the bad nose-riding; unlike my 9’6” and my new Greco 9’, this board does not seem to be able to stay in the pocket. You can ride the nose but it’s a lot of work since you are struggling to keep the board in the wave, or struggling the the tendency of the inside nose rail to dig into the wave.Bottom line: good paddling, good wave catching, smooth ride, but sluggish to turn. A very good beginners’ board with limitations for development.===============UPDATE: I have gotten a long (approx 9in) center fin (“Perfect Storm” brand) and will try the board with that. I found that a long center fin made a huge difference on the Greco 9ft foamie. I still think the Greco is a better board (since it was better as a tri-fin than the BodyGlove is) but there should be at least some improvement in turning with a longer center fin. I will ride it as a 2+1 (which is the configuration I prefer and which I use on the Greco) and report back after testing.

Five Stars

Great fun surfing, lighter than your Costco Wave Runner Boards hands down.

Bought for my boyfriend

Bought this softtop for my boyfriend. He usually surfs with a shortboard, but I wanted to get him a longboard to help him catch more waves. He used this last week and said he caught more waves in a few minutes than he has in weeks. He said it provides a nice stable ride and isn’t too hard to paddle out with. The only issue he had was duck diving with it, it’s hard to push it under, he just floats right back up. But otherwise, he said its a great board, perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to just enjoy riding waves without the frustration of trying to catch one with a shortboard.

Can’t beat it for a beginner

As a beginner surfer I love this board! The top has enough texture that I dont slip popping up, but is not so rough that I scrape up my hands and feet. Really the only con I have is that it is a tad too wide for me to carry under my arm comfortably. In the water it was very stable and easy to use, I caught a lot of waves in some pretty tough conditions by LA standards and considering I am a beginner. I have tried other boards that were slicker, shorter, different fins, more shape, etc and this is by far my favorite. Two thumbs up!

Great Starter Board!!!!

I bought this board for my girlfriend to learn on. Heck I’ve taken it out a few times in 4-5’ surf. Super easy to get up on. Turns just fine

Surfer soup

Nothing can top the drop on a old balsa or redwood board. I think that’s all old boards have over the super plastic fantastic ‘popouts” is heft and maneuverability. I would buy this board for some breaks around Monterey, CA. There is a slightly terrifying left in Big Sur called Fullers that to surf a long board out there would be madness and at least a waste of waves. Besides the loco locals would have you in the soup pot by sundown.

Good times!

We got this board for Padre Island. It worked really well for everyone. It is a tank but just right for the conditions and for learners.
