CanaKit Quick-Start Guide
An exclusive Starter Kit from CanaKit that includes the fastest model of the Raspberry Pi family - The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and everything you need to get up and running within minutes in the exciting world of Raspberry Pi!
The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is the third generation Raspberry Pi and 10x faster than the first generation Raspberry Pi. Additionally, it incorporates built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
To take full advantage of the improved power management on the Raspberry Pi 3 and provide even support for even more powerful devices on the USB ports, a 2.5A adapter is recommended. The included power supply in this kit incorporates a noise filter to provide the highest stability and comes with a 5-foot cable. This power supply can power the Raspberry Pi 3 and other USB accessories (such as most portable hard drives) without requiring an external powered USB hub.
Kit Includes:
I won’t spend much time reviewing the Raspberry Pi. It’s awesome. It’s a cheap computer for experiments. We all know it’s great. This CanaKit is good value. I mainly buy this one because it’s only a 6 dollar markup for the micro-usb wall charger. The charger is decent quality and gets the job done. I don’t want to use a USB wart for something like this and dedicated wall chargers are getting hard to find cheap. This is a few dollars cheaper than buying them separately, so thanks CanaKit.I don’t think the heat sinks do anything but they look neat and probably don’t hurt.
Great little RPi board and power supply. USB, HDMI and ethernet ports are perfect for basic computing needs and we’ve used the Wi-Fi chipset in both client and AP mode with moderate success. In AP mode the Wi-Fi signal is obviously not great (as there’s no large antenna), but for devices within 10ft or so it works well enough. It doesn’t handle multiple wireless clients super-well in AP mode, so for this case we typically hook up an ASUS RT-N66U router over the ethernet cable and then get fine performance for our low-throughput needs.
This being my first foray into Pi I wanted a good kit. This one’s got some extra parts but it misses having a heatsink for the chip on the bottom of the board. My particular case from C4labs shipped out with another full set of heatsinks so it didn’t really matter. To be able to rock a computer that’ll push a 40” screen via HDMI in the palm of my hand? My wife still can’t believe it. And I haven’t even played around with the GPIO yet! Once I’ve setup my usual tools for Linux builds this will be a nice little inexpensive machine. Very happy.
Great package for someone who is buying their second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. Raspberry Pi. After buying a “starter” kit that includes NOOBS, one can copy the files onto another micro SD, insert it and go. I generally need the extra power supply and the heat sinks are nearly a necessity unless using a case with a fan or a special heat-sinking case. This is about the most affordable, high quality, and reliable “secondary” kit on the market and CanaKit provides great instructions for beginners or advance users alike. Highly Recommended!!
Nice package of goodies, but for some reason my Pi would not read any SD cards. Contacted CanaKit and explained my problem, received a prompt reply with some troubleshooting ideas, I sent screen grabs and a short video back showing that didn’t solve it, and next thing I knew they had a replacement in the mail. Great seller, and I appreciate them not treating me like normal tech support who assumes I’m a doofus who has no idea what they’re talking about…
A standard PI computer with a very nice 2.5 amp power supply and nice little heatsinks. The heatsinks fit nicely below HAT cards if you use one. The power supply runs cool and has more than enough power for a Pi and a couple accessories, I have one running a Pi, a 256 GB SSD and a Logitek trackball & lighted keyboard with no issues.I picked this combo over one that included a case so I could pick a case that exactly met my needs.
Awesome little computer I’ve purchased three of them so far. Always some variation of CanaKit depending on my needs. Great value. Trying to think of a use for a fourth pi, I have not thought of one yet but I’m sure i will.Retropie has come along way in recent years as far as stability and having a user freindly interface goes. After two retropie builds i am very impressed with what this little board can do. I grew up playing 16-32 bit consoles and retropie emulates those systems flawlessly. There are step by step instructions that are easily searched for on-line so don’t get intimidated if you have no technical experience.Im really glad that i can share that same old school console experience that i grew up with my children.
Pros:1. Kit comes with everything, as described.2. Good vendor.3. Easy installation of heatsinks.4. Works great, no DoA or anything like that.Cons:1. No case. There are other kits out there that come with one, though. Some people prefer these without a case, but I still highly recommend one.2. An included SD card would be nice, as this is a starter kit after all. Alas, you need to buy separately. Not really a problem but it would be nice.3. If this kit also included a single outlet on/off switch, and they do make those, that would be spectacular. However, you can purchase these on amazon as an add-on item. Just a suggestion for future RaspPi kits, perhaps if RPI 4 comes out! Both of these cons do NOT outweigh the pros for this product. Therefore, I give it a 5⁄5.
CanaKit is My Favorite to buy as it comes with REAL < 2 A power supply .. I tried other brands and their 2.5A wasn’t real ..
awesome
Love my pi, been playing zelda all week. thanks
It’s a perfect kit for anyone who wants a raspberry pi. I personally loved all of the stuff that comes with the kit
- Item overheats- Card came corrupted- Unit turns off after 2 mins. Finally opened it after my birthday yesterday. Seller won’t offer a refund.
I have longed for a pi for a long time. It works perfectly with python. I will buy another one in the future for myself and build an electric car for my daughter someday.
The Raspberry Pi was installed in a Flirc box with a 32g Sandisk microSD loaded with Noobs. The unit started right up and was set up with Libreelec.
Great computer.
The raspberry pi 3 unit worked perfectly, however the power supply was DOA. I would not recommend buying this combination.
comments powered by Disqusbought for a retropie build. Much cheaper and more flexibility than buying a classic NES or SNES.
