    Product Description

Style:114 LCM Newtonian Product Description Automatically Locates The Wonders Of The Universe With Its Motorized System & On Board Computer! All glass, fully coated optics reveal the depths of our solar system and the wonders of the Universe. Fully adjustable tripod features a convenient accessory tray. Easy to use computerized hand control allows user to locate objects at the touch of a button.

Amazon.com Celestron’s computerized 114LCM telescope adds affordable GoTo technology to a compact Newtonian reflector. The complete package has everything you need except the batteries. The box contains high and low power eyepieces, the computer controller, an adjustable tripod, a red dot finder, and even a CD copy of “The SkyX” planetarium program for your computer.

The 114LCM’s compact Newtonian optics produce images that are more than three times brighter than a 60mm beginner scope. With this telescope it’s easy to see Saturn’s rings and Jupiter’s cloud belts. When the night air is still and clear I’ve been able to see the Cassini division in Saturn’s rings and even spot the shadow of Jupiter’s moons crossing the planets cloud tops. Deep space objects like star clusters and galaxies also show up nicely. The Ring Nebula M57, for instance, shows up as a pale smoke ring, and globular cluster M13 begins to reveal its individual stars.

Celestron’s patented SkyAlign system is remarkably quick and easy to use. If you can see the moon, you can align this telescope. When you turn on the telescope, select “Solar System Align” on the hand control, enter the date and time, point the telescope at the moon, and press the “Enter” button. Then use the computer hand control to center the moon in the eyepiece and press the “Align” button. That’s all it takes; the computerized tracking system takes over and begins tracking, quietly and accurately. Experienced users will like the “Two-Star Align” and “SkyAlign” modes because they allow the telescope to point to over 4,000 objects in the NexStar database. The accurate tracking allowed me to use a Celestron NexImage to take some nice close-up pictures of the moon and planets.

The biggest disadvantage of a computerized telescope is battery consumption. Standard AA alkaline batteries only last a few hours, but the 114LCM works very well with an external 12-volt battery such as Celestron’s Power Tank. The “Lightweight Computerized Mount” of the 114LCM wobbles noticeably when I touch the focus knob, so I like to keep the tripod legs short and set my Power Tank battery on the accessory tray to keep the system from being top-heavy. –Jeff Phillips

Pros:

Easy computerized tracking system Bright Newtonian optics Includes everything but the batteries Cons: Short battery life Light weight tripod

Product Reviews

Great

The telescope is great,it says the battery only last 45 minutes but it last much longer.the optics are great,I got crisp and clear views of The Andromeda Galaxy.however on a cloudy night your alignment might fail, the Starpointer is a bit hard to use but it works well once your used to it.my favorite part is the mount.even if your information is off, like time and GPS(If date is off tracking will be way off)Tracking works fine.over 4,000 objects are in its database.the Eyepieces are fully multi coated.this telescope is worth X-Cel LX 5mm eyepiece,it works perfectly with the 60LCM,i got great views of the moon,i haven’t seen any planets with my 60LCM besides Uranus.

It really does have a good image for it’s size and adds convenience and portability …

I wanted something portable and motorized with go-to capability. Got all that and more with this scope. Though it is small and the magnification are marginal, that is what you can expect with this size scope. It really does have a good image for it’s size and adds convenience and portability to your stargazing. There are many accessories to be found for it as well. As an added bonus, I adapted my 6” reflector to fit on the mount. What’s not to like?

Great Scope for the Money!

This was my third telescope and I was quite impressed with it. Easy to set up, easy to align, easy to use. Keep in mind though that aperture is everything and this telescope only has a 4.5” (114mm) mirror and you won’t get fantastic images of far away galaxy and nebula, although you can see a lot through this scope. If the price of this scope is at your price limit, go for it. If you can afford to spend twice as much, go for something with a bigger aperture.

Great telescope for the beginner

Great telescope for the beginner, but for me Im quickly returning it because I want to see more deep sky objects such as nebulas, galaxies, etc. Would recommend to spend a few extra hundred bucks for a better telescope. Im upgrading to the celestron nexstar 127 slt

HIGHLY recommend this Celestron Telescope!

We ordered the Celestron Telescope and received it within 4 days. It came with a CD that contains all of the information on how to set it up, as well as a very cool astronomy software CD called “The Journey Starts Here” which is VERY useful for the average consumer that is interested in astronomy but doesn’t know where to begin to learn about it. The telescope was packaged very securely and compact for safe shipping. The Quick Setup Guide is straight forward and easy to follow. Having never used a telescope before, much less put one together, we were able to set the whole thing up with no problems following the guide in less than an hour. The Finderscope was easy to align and using the computerized SkyAlign function we were able align the telescope itself using three bright stars within minutes. One of the most amazing things we LOVE about this product is that you can select an object from the internal database and the computer on the telescope will automatically find it for you! Even better, the hand control only displays objects that are currently only visible in the sky given your location. We decided to view Saturn and to our amazement the telescope positioned itself so that it was pointing directly at Saturn. For the record, we had no idea where Saturn was located in the sky, but when I looked through the eyepiece I was in awe. The views with this telescope are amazing! And you can’t beat the price!

Good scope

Haven’t had a lot of time to use it but the telescope was easy to assemble and it seemed to work well.

Nice…but can be tricky to set up.

Nice telescope, but tricky to set up and get used to using. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who is an astronomy buff and he’s been helpful in getting it going. If one is a rank amateur, I would not recommend going it alone.

Tripod legs are made for children - not adults

I think I will eventually like this telescope, but after spending three hours setting up the alignment process, I’m not loving it too much. What really baffles me though is how short the legs are. I am 5’2” and had to sit on the ground or a low stool to see through the main eye piece. I know my 6’2’ husband is not going to be happy when he see it. We’ll probably end up gray taping some extender legs onto the existing minuscule ones.

I am very disappointed!

I can’t get the view finder to show the red light so I can line it up! I have changed the batteries and still no light. I have tried many times to line this up and still no luck.

Great starter scope

Great starter scope! Do yourself a favor though and buy the AC adapter as well. I accidently left it on with a fresh set of batteries and by the next night, gone.
