So first off I have a 2016 Macbook pro 13 …

So first off I have a 2016 Macbook pro 13 with touch bar. I bought this adapter in hopes to achieve 4k 60hz. At first this dongle did not want to work at 4k 60hz only at 30hz. This was very frustrating since I have a PC that a only use at 4k 60hz, so keeping it at the high resolution and high refresh rate was a must. I attempted to connect the adapter with a high bandwidth hdmi 2.0 cable which I was using for my pc. I had no luck getting 4k 60hz. I then tried another cable, no luck. I tried the dongle and hdmi cable with another laptop that can drive a 4k monitor at 60hz, it worked. So I new the issue had to be the Macbook pro. Well no amount of settings(not many to choose from) would work. Well I did some reading around and everyone seems to be having the same issue. I came across a small comment about maybe it will only run with certain subsampling. 4:4:4 which thankfully my LG tv can display. I switched my LG TV to ultra hd deep color and BAM! my tv was then recognized at 2160p and I had 60hz. Also, the HiDPI setting popped up for the TV which then I knew I was in business.So in the end, it comes down the HDMI cable being 2.0, the adapter being 2.0 and my tv set to ultra HD Deep color which is 4:4:4 chroma and you will be able to achieve 4k 60hz on the new 2016 Macbook Pro.

I understand Club3d currently isn’t touting this as a 2016 Macbook capable adapter because of widespread reports of issues from users, but I wanted to confirm that this does work on my 3440x1440 LG Ultrawide 34uc98 display at 60hz. If I had to guess many users having issues aren’t using an HDMI cable that is up to par. To be clear, you need a quality HDMI 2.0 cable for this to work well. I was having issues with a cheap CableMatters cable, and I swapped it out for the cable from my Xbox One and now it is working perfectly. I am even able to use PBP mode (monitor split into two separate devices, one HDMI + this adapter, one displayport -> usb-c). As of right now the only other vendors who are selling a HDMI 2.0 compliant adapter are either out of stock or have pulled it from shelves (looking at you Anker). So cheers Club3d, this totally works I’m stoked. Currently using a 2016 fully maxed out Macbookwith touchbar in clamshell mode.

Requires my TV to be off first when plugging in the adapter, otherwise it doesn’t work.

UPDATE: Taking the advice of another reviewer here, I tried plugging the adapter into my MBP with the TV off first, then turning the TV on. That seemed to do the trick, even with the MBP already in clamshell mode. I upgraded my review from 2 to 3 stars, since this eliminates my need to reboot, but it still makes this only an “okay” adapter overall, as a good adapter should be able to work regardless of whether the TV is on or off.ORIGINAL REVIEW: While this adapter technically works, it doesn’t appear to work as designed, at least in my case. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro (15”) and like to hook it up to my 52” Samsung TV (not 4K, just 1080p@60Hz max). But just plugging in the adapter (which is connected to the Samsung TV via a Twisted Veins HDMI cable) to my MBP doesn’t bring anything up on the TV (it’s always “searching for signal”). Sometimes the resolution of the MBP’s screen will change when I plug it in; sometimes it doesn’t. The only way to get it to work properly is to reboot the MBP while the adapter is plugged in. On the reboot, it will pick it up and display properly on the TV, including in clamshell mode which is how I like to use it. I can use it just fine this way as long as I want. But once I disconnect the adapter from the MBP (like when I take it to bed), whenever I go back to set it up with the TV again, plugging it in does nothing (regardless of whether the MBP is open or still in clamshell mode). I have to repeat the reboot process to get it to work.I’ve posted this issue in the Club 3D forum on their website, but have yet to receive a response. If they are able to figure out why this is happening and fix it (whether it’s some setting I’ve missed, or that I just have a faulty adapter that they’ll replace), I’ll be happy to give it a higher star rating as it functions great once I’ve done the reboot and it’s working. But as of now, this is a very annoying and cumbersome process to go through just to hook my MBP to my TV and I’ll be in the market to look for another adapter that can work normally.

Works on Macbook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar

The short review is: this thing works on my macbook pro.I just received my 2016 15-inch macbook pro today. When I open my macbook and use this adaptor to connect with my 4k TV, nothing happens. Then I did the following and I got 4k at 60HZ on my TV:(1) you should receive an update on MacOS after you received your macbook, install it!(2) use a hdmi 2.0 cable;(3) enable 4k resolution in your tv/monitor;(4) I connect my power cable on the same side of this adaptor (since I know the two usb ports on the same side share the same thunderbolt bus).Then it works! Not sure this is because of (1) or (4).

This product is excellent. I am very satisfied with the quality and price. It really plugs well to my new Lenovo Yoga 900 laptop and deliver quality signal and resolution. Most importantly it does not heat up and it’s not loose. After purchasing two other similar pricey products from a local store in the US that heats up with loose connectivity to the laptop, I am now really satisfied with this sleek light weigh product that delivers full 4k resolution at 60Hz.

You need this for 4K at 60hz or “60 frames-per-sec”. This one has HDMI 2.0 output. The cheaper ones only allow 4K at 30hzI have a 2016 Dell XPS 13. Be sure you also get an HDMI 2.0 cable. But I will concur with other reviewers that I get 4K 60hz with even a decent older HDMI cable.I plugged it into a Samsung 40” 4K TV. Be sure to set PC mode and consider the first HDMI port if you are doing the same.NOTE: there is a small and noticeable lag or latency in displaying the video at 4K, 60hz. But I do not believe this adapter is the cause. The same thing happens with my Mac with a high quality Mini DisplayPort adapter (to HDMI 2.0). For example, the mouse moves instantaneously on the notebook’s screen or on my 2560x1440 monitor. But at 4K, on the Samsung 6 series 6300, there seems to be an unavoidable lag that I have concluded is to be expected with this TV.

Wish it did HDMI 2.0a as my TV accepts 4K @ 60 Hz (4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0) and this only does 4:2:0 for 10 bit 4k @ 60Hz.

Wish it was HDMI 2.0a like my TV. Windows 10 Creators build will support HDR next month, and my TV accepts 4K @ 60 Hz (4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0).
