Product Reviews

Very Nice Toaster

Nice looking and nice performing toaster! I like the bagel feature. It crisps the inside and not the outside of each bagel half. I like to use the bagel setting on English muffins; it makes the inside crunchy while keeping the outside softer. Countdown feature tells you how much time is left before the toast is finished. Also it has a “push-up” feature for easy removal of smaller items. Great toaster!

Great Toaster

I bought this toaster based on the reviews of a similar model (CPT-420). The 420 is leverless and I was a little nervous about the potential for something to go wrong with that, versus the tried and true push-down/pop-up version. The reviews on this model are not as good, which is strange since they are identical except the lever.I considered this toaster to be a splurge but I eat toast every morning and I’m kind of particular about it.Anyway, I highly recommend this model. The toast is not dry, which is what impressed me the most.

The replacement toaster smelled like plastic or oil was burning when we toasted

I’m not sure if my troubles are the reason this vendor is selling these for less than others, but the first one came with inner metal that did not completely close on one side, with a glob of oil inside one slot, and the protective plastic missing in two spots. We had to put the toaster on a high setting in the replacement toaster to get it to toast normally. The replacement toaster smelled like plastic or oil was burning when we toasted. We called Cuisinart customer service and they said the smell was not normal and that we should return it, which we arranged immediately.I did like the appearance, the countdown bars, and the fact that there is an alert that sounds when the toast pops, though the tone that sounds is like a smoke alarm, so I keep thinking that the smoke alarm is going off. (I think I would get used to that quickly, but it is not a pleasant tone.) They have a newer model. Maybe they dealt with some of these issues.

No Toasting for my toast!!!

I’ve had this toaster since May and it is December so 7 months. The first couple of months it worked fine, but now my toast is only half toasted on one side of my bread on both sides of the toaster! What’s up with that? I’ve had less expensive toasters last years and years until I just replace it because it looked so sad.Try another toaster instead! Now it’s a year later, and like a fool I didn’t return this. Now all my toast is getting burned and I can’t use the left side without setting off my Nest fire alarm.I would still try another toaster instead and won’t be buying this again.

Great results, does have a high pitched sound until unplugged

I love the results. Was especially impressed when using a frozen english muffin and how it has the defrost button! They turn out crisp and hot! The only thing I don’t like is the high pitched sound it makes after it’s done and pops up until you unplug it. Not loud, but loud enough that we all go “ughhh!” and quickly unplug it.

I really wanted to like it, but two flaws resulted in a return

I really liked the weight and overall look of this toaster. The display and button layout is great, and the lever feels pretty sturdy compared to other toasters. But unfortunately there are two flaws that resulted in my returning the toaster:1) When plugged in, the LED display emits a faint, high-pitched sound. This appears to be a common issue looking at other reviews and questions being asked about this product. Some people don’t hear it — I’m not sure if their unit doesn’t actually have the problem or if they simply cannot hear it. It’s not loud, but it is of a high enough pitch to give me a headache. There is no way to turn the display off without unplugging the toaster from a power source.2) The sides and top of the toaster get pretty hot when toasting. This is to be expected, of course, but I was surprised how hot it is even close to the front of the toaster. I used my thumb to support the toaster while I held up on the lever and it was a bit too hot for comfort. The toaster I received toasted evenly.

Recommend this toaster.

Very nice toaster that can handle 1-4 slices of thin up to bagels. Easy to set and seeming toasts uniformly, as usual top a little more done, but guess what, heat rises. The setting lights are bright but dim when not in use, very attractive on counter, makes us look affluent when we are not! Friends that came over for dinner just ordered one as they saw ours.

Slots Are Not Really 1 12” Wide

If you like to toast Bagels, and you buy bagels at a real bagel shop that makes thicker bagels, they will not fit in this toaster. The problem is that each slot has a wire rack that sits inside and protrudes approximately 14” (on each side of the slot) into the slot, effectively reducing the slot size to 1 14”. If you need a true 1 12” slot, you will need to buy the Kitchenaid 4 slot toaster. Our experience matches what all the reviews say about the Cuisinart Toasters vs. the Kitchenaid Toasters - The Cuisinart actually toasts both sides of a piece of bread much more evenly than the Kitchenaid. This is because the wire rack that moves in to hold the toast when you push the toast down actually holds the toast evenly because of the narrower design. But, since the Kitchenaid toaster fits bagels much better, our solution was to buy the 4 slice Kitchenaid KMT422 toaster to use for bagels (which we tend to eat more than regular toast), and then also buy the 2 slice Cuisinart CPT-415 toaster to use when we are toasting regular bread and want evenly toasted toast. It took us three tries to figure this out, so our kids who have left us for college consider this proof that their parents have too much time on their hands now!
