Mounting wings are molded into the media plate and fasten tightly against the back of the drywall. Quick & easy to install-no additional parts needed.
Item Package Quantity:1 Product Description DataComm Electronics’ new, patented Recessed Low Voltage Media Plate with Duplex Receptacle offers the convenience of a duplex receptacle and a recessed plate with enough room to store the low voltage cables behind your flat panel TV.
From the Manufacturer DataComm Electronics’ new, patented Recessed Low Voltage Media Plates offer the convenience of a duplex receptacle (45-0031-WH) or duplex surge receptacle (45-0041-WH) and a recessed plate with enough room to store the low voltage cables behind your flat panel TV.
This thing is very solid, affordable and easy to install. I have become a fan of datacomm solutions because of this. Highly recommended. Please make sure to take into account the dimensions of this solution since it maybe a bit large and difficult to hide if your TV is smaller than 47”.
A concern was all the reviews talking of the cheap plastic tabs on the brackets breaking off, the unit I received in Aug 2013 had all metal tabs, which seem quite sturdy.
Does a great job, exactly what I wanted. I had never wired outlets before but with some research I was able to add one of these behind my TV and another on in my Pantry. This comes with the outlet and box to house the wires in. You cut the hole (template included and then place in in hole, it has clips that can be tightened to hold it to the dry wall. TIP: I would install in a inch or two of the stud. The Outlet that it comes with only has the pushing wire receptacles for the White and Hot. There are 4 hole for each. Then the Ground is a green screw on the side. I was easily able to add from existing outlet then add a second one off the new one. Will but again when I need another one.
Let me say first off there are some misconceptions about this plate based on the “most helpful” reviews that are older:- The locking tabs are made out of metal now and are no longer plastic- The plate itself is made out of a very sturdy plastic and does not feel cheap- You can install this on an outer wall that has insulation, just takes a bit of work- No issues with crosstalk/interference from low and high voltage wiring using standard shielded cabling (ran parallel)I used this for wall mounted TV and it worked great. I ran the following wires through the opening with room to spare:- HDMI x2- Optical- Component A/V- IR Extender (1⁄8” style cabling, similar to what is used for headphones)- Wii sensor bar extender cable- 16 gauge speaker wireI would recommend changing the outlet with a Leviton surge protected outlet (or similar product) if you do not have another option for surge protection, that is, an option that won’t leave your setup looking like crap. You will need roughly 7 1⁄4 and 7 3⁄8” rectangular (not a perfect square) cut out based on template, but I would plan on 8 inches plus a few more inches on the electrical receptacle side as it goes into the wall at an angle.I really hate seeing this product getting stars knocked off of it because it is “to big” and the buyer didn’t provision correctly to ensure it would fit into the allotted space. This is a really great product for clean looking wall mounted TV installations – just make sure you have the room for it.
Works great for behind a wall mounted TV. You are required to cut a 7-1⁄8 X 7-1⁄4 inch hole in the wall. That allows you easy access to stick your arm down in the wall to pull up wires. Note that the unit does not mount on any studs. In fact the left hand side of the unit needs to be about 3 inches to the right of a stud (see picture). This is because the AC electrical box protrudes to the left of the unit behind the wall. The AC outlet is just a normal outlet, no surge protection of Ground Fault protection on this model (other models have surge protection). If you want to add surge protection, a simple, cheap solution is this: Belkin SurgeCube Surge Protector with 1 Outlet It fits nicely (but it covers up one of the outlets) (see piciture). Installation instructions can be found searching Google for “Datacomm 45-0031”. Note that only the first 2 pages of the instructions are for this unit. The other pages are for different model numbers.
The outlet is garbage. I would have saved money if I would have just bought one of these that didn’t have the outlet with it. It won accept 12ga or 14 ga wire. I modified the back temporarily just till I got a new outlet later that day I put it together. Overall for the price build quality was lacking.
This is a great option for neatly bringing power and signal wires to the back of a TV.I installed mine on a seismic shear wall which has 1⁄2” drywall plus 1⁄2” OSB sheathing behind it. With the mounting clamps unscrewed all the way to the retaining nut, they are able to accommodate a 1” thick wall without issue. The outlet that comes with the unit is a basic tamper-resistant unit, but can be replaced with any standard Decora outlet. I opted for a unit with built-in surge suppression (Leviton 5280-W 15 Amp, 125 Volt, Decora Plus Duplex Surge Suppressor Receptacle, Straight Blade, Industrial Grade, Self Grounding, White) which fit fine and still had sufficient space in the box.
The plastic housing of this product is good quality however the electrical outlet included in junk. We have 12⁄2 wiring which did not fit into the back of the push in only outlet. The outlet face plate broke off of the outlet trying to insert 14ga wire. The outlet does not have side (screw in) terminal blocks. Bottom line - buy this for the housing, not the outlet. I ended up using another outlet in place of the one provided.
Terrible customer service. Would not recommend
At first I was kind of skeptical about the outlet, but it’s been installed a couple years and love this, conceals your wires very well!
Returning it’s huge
These things are a great idea. I had two powered wall mounted studio monitors and everything now enters above my wall mount brackets. No more dangling wires.
Be careful not to over-tighten the screws. The top right corner screw snapped (I am assuming from over-tightening) off on mine. holds just fine with the three other screws.
able to keep extra cable in the wall and not having to add a extra connector in the line
It is huge, more than i thought. But it works. but next time, I will not try this one. I will try sperately electric and wire plate. this does not look good.
Working as they should. No complaints…
Neat and clean….. placed it above our fireplace, then hung the TV. Everything you need in one place.
comments powered by DisqusI liked this set, however I had to replace the receptacle portion on this unit. Not because it was faulty, rather it was the push in style and not the screw in( I had thick gauge…
