Available in 1-gang (45-0001) and 3-Gang (45-0003)
Size:2 gang | Color:White DataComm Electronics’ 2-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plates are used to install low voltage cables behind your flat panel TV, amplifier, or other audio and video devices. These plates are designed to be installed onto a low voltage mounting bracket. The cable plates can be installed with the opening facing up or down.
This is an excellent solution to running low voltage or structured wiring cables (read Eithernet/CAT5-6, speaker wires, HDMI, or others) behind the walls. Especially nice for wall hung flatscreens and allows you to route wiring behind the drywall. Note that if you are not pretty handy or have experience running wires in walls, you probably want a professional to do that. Other than the wiring itself, these boxes install very easily and quickly while dressing up an ugly cutout in your sheetrock.
I bought a pair of these 2 gang plates to hide the cables that would otherwise be visible dropping from my wall mounted TV to the cabinet beneath it. Mount the top plate behind your TV with the opening facing down, and the bottom plate behind your cabinet with the opening facing up.I was initially wondering if a 1, 2, or 3 gang was the correct size. I’m glad I chose the 2 gang as it comfortably fits 2 HDMI cables, 1 optical cable, 1 analog audio cable, 1 component video cable, and VGA/audio cable. I can drop cables from the top plate and not fuss too much pulling them out the bottom plate.Don’t mistakenly think you could probably squeeze the cables in a 1 gang version. While the combined width of the cables might fit, getting all the connectors through would be near impossible I would think. I measure the widest point of the opening at 2-7⁄8” for this 2 gang.7/28/10 Update - Product still performs well.
I needed to run a VGA cable StarTech.com MXT101MMHQ20 20-Feet Coax High Resolution Monitor VGA Cable HD15 M/M in a wall, so I purchased this plate since it was not going to go through conduit and I didn’t want to just leave a very visible hole in the wall. Additionally, I ordered Arlington LV1-1CS Single Gang Low Voltage Mounting Bracket Device to secure the plate to the wall. Installation was quick and easy. It looks good for where it is located and helped reduce cable strain.Overall, I am pretty happy with this purchase.
Works as intended. I wish there was a grommet or rubber-like piece that would surround the cables that run through this so reduce any bugs or possible small rodents from coming through. It may be hard for a small mouse to get through, but it would be nice. I stuffed some tape in the back of this as a workaround. Other then that, it works perfect. To make the cut, I used a pencil and reversed this piece, moved it where I wanted on the wall, and then went around the border of the plate. Try to get the pencil inside the lip as this will allow the cut to be ‘just’ smaller than the face plate itself.
These are SO helpful when running cables for a wall mounted TV or surround sound speaker cables etc. I’ve used several of these in my house so far, but please be sure you are not running cables that really don’t belong inside a wall in your walls. If you need power to a wall mounted TV, there are different kits for that. I used these to provide entry and exit for in-wall rated speaker wires and in-wall rated HDMI cables.I mounted these straight into the drywall with drywall screws, then used whit fingernail polish on the screw heads.
I ordered these and they worked perfectly!! only thing is i didnt know it didnt come with the wall mount plates that were sold separately so to finish up my little project i had to improvise lol but these worked so perfectly for what i needed them to. i used one for the ceiling for my projector and two for the wall with a bunch of coaxial cables and one for my brothers room to run a cat 5 cable that was over 100’ long run lol
I like the product and I’ve had no problems since installing it on my first tv. However, for some weird reason I keep on reading the description as if these came in packs of 2 (I’m buying 2- gang). I did this the first time and now that I bought it again for another TV, I did it again. I did remembered to buy the mounts (this doesn’t include them) and purchased 2 of them… so mad at myself! Don’t be like me! These come in packs of 1.
I needed this to run a 100 ft ethernet cable from my router to my garage for my home based computer lab. I mistakenly bought this thinking I’d just use some drywall anchors and be done with it, but nope! The screw holes are just too close to the edge of the drywall (if you were to cutout an opening where the cable drop opening is). So I had to buy a single gang low voltage mounting bracket (Arlington brand) and it fit perfectly. No complaints here….other than the opposite of what some people have said. I kind of wish the opening was smaller, not larger (for just one or two ethernet cables). The description says this is designed to use with the a bracket, but it should say it’s REQUIRED since there’s really no other way to mount it to drywall without risking damaging the drywall.
OK
More than I spec
Great way to hide cables in wall.
Great, would but again.
Idea was good. It does what it says. The only thing is when you mark the dry wall, you need to be careful and give some thoughts.
thank you
Needed a cover plate for where the surveillance camera cables come out of the wall and connect to the DVR… PERFECT!
Where are the colored screws to install this product!!! Come on you buy something colored to match a wall and then leave out the most important part like the screws to attach…
Easy to install and looks great next to my outlet. The feeder in the back left plenty of room for my extension cords to pull through.
