Portable power pack.

Since I replace batteries, before they go dead, in my power hungry accessories like four inside/outside thermometers and other items around the home I wind up with a bunch of batteries that are low but not dead. I hate to throw them away so I ordered several battery holders to provide 6 or eight volts out of these low batteries. I plug them into the USB DC-DC converter to power my USB powered/charged units. This little device squeezes out every drop of power in them so when I throw them to the re-cycling center I know I got my money’s worth out of them. I also have one set up as a portal power pack for the time you need Instant power for the phone.DROK Mini USB DC-DC Step Up Converter 3V to 5V 2A Mobile Power Supply Charger Board with Battery Indicator for Tablet PC iPad iPhone Charging DIY

2 AMP 5 Volt step up goodness

This module is so handy and useful I had to order another one. I ordered it for an altoid solar usb charger at first. It stepped up the current to 5 volts, and was strong enough to draw 2 AMPs and power charge my flagship phone quickly. I then used it with two of my window solar panels in parallel rated 6 volts 583 mA and it also stepped up the voltage when the sun wasn’t at its highest (5v 1A) and didn’t fail either when exposed to 6.15V. Then I used it with a couple of 18650s to make a power bank. The greatest thing is the indicator led, and the amount of current it can put out(great for 2A fast charge devices!). Note this module does not step up current, so directly connecting it to a small solar panel will only step up your voltage. My next plan is to add 3 more solar panels in parallel to create a 2A output on my window, and this module will surely be key for it!

Charged my Galaxy Tab connected to Solar Panel - Will buy again

I have an older Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet and I was able to charge using this device connected to this solar panel ALLPOWERS 2.5W 5V/500mAh Mini Encapsulated Solar Cell Epoxy Solar Panel DIY Battery Charger Kit for Battery Power 130x150mm (Solar Panel Only). So far so good, does what it says it does, and at a reasonable price. I am using it for low voltage embedded projects that will use a battery as well. I will post any updates but first couple hours of sunlight all looks good! Will buy again

Not enough current draw for fast charging but otherwise works fine

I initially had some trouble with this converter. The first time I tried to plug my phone into it, my circuit kept browning out. Eventually I figured out that my phone was drawing too much current for the converter to handle. On my phone, I was able to fix this by going to the battery settings and turning off fast charging, which causes the phone to only draw 1 amp from the charger, albeit slower. That being said, this charging circuit is otherwise fairly well built. I tested its output at 5.17V, which is perfectly safe for charging your phone. It gets a little hot when in use but not enough to worry me. In all, it’s fairly good.

These things are great. I am using it to power a raspberry …

These things are great. I am using it to power a raspberry pi 3 with 2 18650s and I haven’t had any issues with low voltage even with several usb devices connected. A lot or my other 2A usb charges weren’t strong enough to power it. The only issue is that the light does not turn red at 3.6V and I have yet to see it turn red. I will do some testing to find out at what voltage it changes. You may need to use a lipo protection circuit with this to make sure your batteries don’t drain too low. If you are using alkaline batteries then it’s not an issue, they will just die.

Great USB port for custom applications

This is great for making your own solar charger or battery power bank. Its a lot cheaper than buying a commercial solar charger that normally sucks like Goal Zero products. If you are nifty with simple circuits then you will have fun building your own solar/battery solution.

School project success

Needed to do solar panel power project for son in school, picked up two panels from amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GFGRGA4/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2and connected in parallel and it worked great. Son and myself both learned a lot about USB and series vs parallel.

Provides decent voltage, as stated

I bought this to make a simple phone charger from some AAs. This was one of the samples I tried and it works as stated. As long as you stay above 3V, it boosts to ~5V (usually hovers around 5.0xV for anything in the 3.5-4.5V range. The output current, from my testing with 4xAA NiMH 2800/2100mAh batteries, tended to only get to 200-400mA. My circuit is simply 4 AAs in series to the + input of this and the - output to the voltage source. The usb is connected to an iphone where it gives a reliable 5V/200mA until the input voltage gets below 4V. Anyone have better experience with NiMH batteries and higher output current with this converter? The inner pins are shorted(?) or powered, so an iPhone detects it as charging.

wish these also had a battery charger with over discharge protection

I used with a solar panel and it seems to work fine.

Works well for small projects that require minimal cost. I used with a solar panel and it seems to work fine.
