A remarkable guitar. I already own two other Eastmans, a hollow body, and an electric, both of which are absolute keepers. Still, somehow I didn’t dare hope this guitar would be so terrific. A beautiful guitar, perfect neck, excellent workmanship, and simply outstanding in the most important areas of playing and sound. I had a Collings that cost three times as much as this guitar, that I sold it because the sound was crystal clear but somewhat sterile. This guitar has the clarity of the Collings, better playability, as good/better build quality, and far more beautiful tone. I’m a big Gibson fan, I love the tone of their guitars and that Gibson history/mystique/special sauce, but this Eastman is my daily go-to guitar. I could not be happier. Oh, and it sounds equally wonderful unplugged or jacked into my Fishman acoustic amp.
I am a professional guitarist/performer/teacher. I’ve owned dozens of Martins, Taylors, Gibsons and even a few boutique instruments. This Eastman holds its own with almost any of them for a fraction of the price. I did upgrade the built in electronics to a K&K Pure Mini (my favorite) and relaced the tuners with Gotoh 510’s, also added bone pins. The sound both acoustically and via the pick up is balanced, clear and resonant. The fit and finish is absolutely superb and the slightly radiused neck with slightly rolled edge plays like butter. I’ve played a few other Eastmans too and I firmly believe they are making the BEST of the Pac Rim imports. This is my go-to guitar for gigging in spite of having a Martin and a Taylor costing 4 - 8 times as much. Highly, highly recommended!!!!!!!
This is my third Eastman. They are a great value you don’t get this kind of tone and workmanship in a guitar till you spend twice the amount. Hope they get into some tees or hats so I can get their name out there.
Have played acoustic gigs for years… Having numerous acoustics from ovation, takamine, Taylor’s and martins. I could not have mad a better choice with my new Eastman 422ce with the Shertler Lydia pickup system. Straight out of the box from ups to the gig yesterday. Brought my Martin just in case, didn’t need it. The sound was incredible both for picking and strumming. Every string can be heard clearly every note up the scale rings true. I play straight thru a Yamaha board to a Lucas Nano 300 and this guitar will keep my Martin in the case for a while. Love everything about it. Recommend to anyone looking for a quality hand made acoustic that will not break your bank account!! Very happy.
I have been playing for fifty years, Martin, guild,Gibson, etc. Absolutely one of the best. Folks this a SOUND machine!!!! Excellent craftsmanship. I love this guitar.
This is the third Eastman I have owned. I own another acoustic and and a model 815 mandolin. Don’t let the notion that it is made in China think this is an inferior guitar. The workmanship of all the Eastman’s I own is excellent. The Eastman Company uses first class materials for their instruments. The other acoustic guitar I own has an Adarondack spruce top. It has beautiful highs and deep bass tones. It is a great bluegrass or finger style blues guitar. The CE 20 is also excellent in materials and workmanship. All Eastman products I own are well put together. The necks are comfortable, the frets are dressed and the action is low. When I received my Eastman’s they were ready to play, No adjustments were needed. Also surprisingly all were in tune. The dealers shipped them as soon as they were received.I use the acoustics to play ragtime and finger style country blues. The only negative comment I will make is the AC 20 sounds better through an acoustic amp, although it can be played through a standard guitar amp. The AC 20 also does not have controls for EQ, volume or tone. All of this has to be adjusted by your amp.In closing I will add that the guitars and mandolin are well worth the money. You can’t find an American made guitar that is this good in the price range!
This 422CE has amazing D-size volume and projection, even string and note balance, sweet musical tone and rosewood overtones. Surprisingly good fit and finish with the bound fretboard and rosette. Fret work and low action is outstanding. Surprised at the treble string punch where it has clarity and punch comparable to Collings OM. Glad to find new old stock model with a simple Fishman VT pickup as I felt the Schertler Lydia system was complicated to dial in without excessive bass in my Eastman E20 OMCE. Very nuanced string response plugged in or unplugged.
Whoa! I bought a used AC422CE, fell in love. One of the best I’ve ever played. Neck is glossy finish but I took some very fine sandpaper and went at it, not too much and…
The Eastman AC422CE is an incredible buy….nitro finish, bone saddle/nut, rosewood back and sides…it is just as good as a Taylor 814ce but for over a thousand and many hundreds…
