Brand: Fotasy
Style:Canon FD Fotasy Pro Lens Adapter, allows Canon FD & FL mount lens to be used on Sony NEX E-Mount Camera Body. Please note: This adapter fits Sony A7II A7S only! Not for other Sony E-Mount Cameras.
I only have a couple of lenses to use this with. The first is an old Vivitar 300mm lens. It works okay with this, but I think it is mainly the lens that I don’t like. My first complaint about the adapter is that the threaded ring has some play in it, and allows a lot of wiggle with the lens attached. Not too good. The second lens I just bought to use with this is a lovely old auto mamiya/sekor sx 55mm f/1.8 lens. It attaches nice and tight, which eliminates the aforementioned wiggling issue. However, with the lens screwed on securely, the aperture ring rests directly against the adapter, making it impossible to adjust without unscrewing the lens a bit and then tightening it back up again. It takes fantastic pictures, but I a not sure why this is a problem. Maybe it is just this particular lens with the aperture ring all the way on the back edge of the lens. Again, I don’t have much experience with M42 mount lenses, but this is pretty disappointing.
adapter fits snuggly between my Sony a6000 and the Minolta lens I have. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I cannot get a sharp image no matter my settings on either my camera or lens. This may not be the fault of the adapter, but I cannot be sure that it doesn’t have some part in the issue.Revised review 07/18/2017 –I was going to purchase a set of MC mount lenses from a local pawn shop and knew that this adapter was supposed to work with that mount as the product description states “Allows Minolta MD MC lens to be used on Sony E-Mount NEX camera body.” However, it’s a good thing I actually tried the adapter/lens combo before purchasing as no matter how we tried, myself nor two of the pawn shop guys could get the lenses to fit to the adapter. This is disappointing as I love the legacy lenses paired with my a6000 and the butter bokeh and painterly effect they produce.
The adapter is the correct model for my Sony A6000 body and my Minolta MD lens fits the adapter but it won’t lock on. In reading other comments I see this is an ongoing issue. Amazon is sending a replacement, so let’s hope for the best. Just be aware that you may have the same issue in that the lock pin on the adapter does not engage the lens, making the adapter completely useless. And later… Amazon sent me another adapter via “2-day shipping” and that adapter worked. I’d give the item a higher rating if it wasn’t for the companies poor quality control. Too many people have the issue with the lock pin, so it means the products are leaving the mfg without a quality check.Performance: It fits the lens and performs as stated with the Sony A6000 digital camera. Manual mode is my friend!
After going into the Menu->Setup->Release w/o Lens->Enable on my Nex-5N I was able to use all my Canon lenses on it. When using this adapter you must manually focus, so I also went into Menu->Setup->Peaking Level->Med and now I can easily focus the lenses on the fly while recording video. Another great feature of the Nex-5N (possibly all NEXs) is that it replaces Button B with the MF Zoom function when using the adapter, making it fairly easy to get critical focus for stills, where I can squeeze out even more details on the eyes then I can with just focus peaking.Canon’s cropped lenses are made for a 1.6x crop instead of a 1.5x like Sony, so there is a chance you will get vignetting when using EF-S lenses, but on both my cropped lenses the EF-S 10-22 and the Sigma 30mm 1.4 I didn’t notice any more vignetting then normal (maybe at 10mm there was a tiny bit of darkening at the corners, but well within fixable levels for Lightroom). Canon EOS/EF lenses do not have aperture rings so all your lenses will be wide open. For me this isn’t really a problem, since I’m mostly using my Canon lenses for the 1.4 and 2.8 apertures that are not as common in the E system. The one exception is that I almost always want to stop down the 100mm macro lens, and occasionally the 30mm 1.4 down to f/2. So to use this adapter, you need to put the lens on a Canon body in AV or M mode and set the aperture to the desired opening, press and hold the DOF preview button, while you remove the lens (also while the camera is still on). It’s a bit of a contortionist act, but it works well and the lens’aperture just pops back into place when you put it back on the Canon. If you need a lot of aperture control, you can get adapters with an inline iris, but they didn’t appeal to me since it can cause it’s own vignetting and won’t work with EF-S lenses. The other option is a four hundred dollar adapter by Metabones, which offers full and automatic (from the Sony body) aperture control, support for image stabilizers and exif data. The problem with that other than the cost and that it’s still manual focus and it’s almost never in stock.PROS:+ Fits well to the camera and the lens+ Works perfectly+ Sony Nex camera have a lot of aids (peaking and zoom) for manual focus+ Lets me use my 10mm and the rotating screen to get sweeping interiors from the corners of a room.+ Lets me use my 30mm 1.4 and 28-75 2.8 lens to take really low light photos and great portraits.+ Keeps me from buying another macro lens, which I don’t use enough as it is.CONS (more like known limitations):- Must change menu settings before using it.- Can not control aperture (aperture can be set and locked in from a Canon Camera, but it’s an ordeal).- Canon lenses are much bigger and will block the flash.- Does not support Canon IS and Sony NEXs do not have sensor stabilization like Alphas do, so my long canon lenses don’t benefit as much from this lens other than maybe for fixed tripod video.
Had to return the lense adapter. Pictures did not come out clear.
I don’t expect much of this product, when receiving it I was surprised, its absolute value five stars. It meets my expectation. Good bargain, i will be buying a few more sets.
Works like a charm!
Makes your lenses work in manual and doesn’t hurt the wallet
Always works. Not hard to remove
Perfect for my needs.
Affordable and works really well.
I bought the MD and FD adaptors for the Sony a7r. Both adaptors work flawlessly. Very easy to change lenses, but a nice tight fit.
Worked with my SMC pentax-DA 1:1.8 50mm to my Sony a6000. The aperture control on the mount is just what I needed.
