Package Type:Standard Packaging 12 Volt Vehicle Power Cable for Garmin Nuvi GPS
Many have submitted reviews stating they get no traffic. You were all confusing even to me, so I did my research. Here’s the proper information on this cable:This is Garmin Part # 010-11838-00 its their generic website order number for GPS WITH OR WITHOUT TRAFFIC.The part number on the cable is actually TA20 320-00239-70, meaning its a TRAFFIC ANTENNA/CHARGING CABLE.Its cheaper for them to make ALL cables with an antenna, than to stock 2 numbers. If you have a Garmin GPS with built in traffic receiver, then this cable is for you.Mine is a 2597 LMTIf you have a Garmin GPS with a receiver in the cable, you’ll know by the rectangular module inline to the cable,of course this won’t get you traffic, but will charge.Garmin has 3 basic cables:TAFor GPS units with BUILT-IN traffic receivers. This cable, is just a charger with an antenna built in.The “in the box” description at Garmin for this unit states (Lifetime traffic antenna/vehicle power cable)GTMFor traffic capable GPS units. This cable has a charger, and traffic receiver in the cord, just below the mini USB connector, it is rectangular, and inline to the cable. The “in the box” description at Garmin for this unit states (Lifetime traffic receiver/vehicle power cable)GTM HDFor HD traffic capable receivers, it looks like the GTM.[…]
Works great as a replacement for the cord that came with my Nuvi 2599LMTHD.Recently I purchased a new Nuvi 2599LMTHD, and the very first day I had it, managed to shut the cord in the car door and smash the end. I was very frustrated trying to figure out what cord I needed as a replacement, that would work with the traffic feature. Thanks to a helpful review by another Amazon customer, I was able to determine that this cord would work for my Nuvi 2599LMTHD, even though the part number on this cord doesNOT match the cord that came with my unit. The 2599LMTHD has its traffic receiver built into the unit, so this cord (with the traffic antenna inside) is compatible.
I bought this power cable so I could wire another car to use my Garmin Nuvi 2597LMT. This power cable is identical to the one which came with the GPS and is even labeled TA20 like the original even tough is has a different model number. Others have stated that this cable will not give you traffic updates, but that depends on your GPS model. If your model has the FM traffic receiver built into the GPS itself (like the Nuvi 2597LMT) then this cable WILL provide you with traffic updates as the cable only acts like an antenna for the built-in FM traffic receiver. Beware of aftermarket power cables as they may not be able to perform this antenna function. Before you waste money on a more expensive cable it is best to check with Garmin and see if your model of GPS has the traffic receiver built-in. If your GPS receives traffic with the TA20 cable then this model (010-11838-00) will work for you as well.
Unfortunately the “return window” for this item closed in April, but I did not find out it was defective until recently. I thought the cord was working. The blue light came on on the cigarette lighter end, but the end that connects to my Nuvi doesn’t make a full connection. I didn’t find this out until I made a long trip and got a message that my battery was about to die. I tried it again on another trip and it did the same thing. It just plain didn’t work. I believe that Garmin make quality products, but this one was defective. I guess I’ll just have to shell out an additional $14 and cross my fingers.
Purchased this a year ago to replace the cord for my husband’s Garmin Dezl and now need to purchase another. The design on this charger is a bit wonky. The USB slot is awkardly placed on the Dezl so you must bend the USB plug to attach to the unit. This cause wear and tear on the cord thereby needing to replace it once again. But it is necessary to use the GPS, at least the Garmin Dezl is still running like a pro.
The Garmin Nuvi Vehicle Power Cable saved me $300 by not having to purchase a new Garmin Nuvi from Costco. Needed it quick for a trip when my last Garmin Nuvi quick working. I did purchase the Costco Garmin Nuvi just before my trip. Thought I would try the Garmin Nuvi Vehicle Power Cable on my dead Garmin, and the Garmin Nuvi Vehicle Power Cable worked like a charm. Ordered the Garmin Nuvi Vehicle Power Cable and came quickly. Returned the Garmin to Costco. Been happy for three months now.
My Garmin Nuvi 265T was acting like the battery was dying as it wasn’t charging well and sometimes was stuck in battery mode even when plugged in to 12V. This power cable solved that problem and my GPS has a new life. The traffic feature appears no longer to work however, although that is not a big lose from my perspective since by the time it showed a traffic problem I already was in it! As others noted this cable is much thinner than the original making it lighter and less intrusive.
I purchased this item for a total of $14.74 (product cost + tax + shipping) and have been using it since July 18, 2016.Why I purchased this item?My Garmin GTM 25 Traffic Receiver Power Cable which I’ve had since April 2012 stopped working and I could no longer charge my Garmin nuvi 1450LMT in my car. When I went to look for a replacement GTM 25, I found it was discontinued and selling price was to high for my budget. So, I decided to buy the power cable and forget about the traffic receiver as I did not use that often anyway. How is the item?So far it has been doing its job charging my GPS and have had no problems.
Works well.
Exactly what I ordered… Excellent price
Nice simple replacement power cord for the Garmin for your car. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.
It charges but still have no traffic alerts. Any advise?
Dead on arrival. A USB cord connected to my PC charged the GPS so I know the GPS is working. Tried half a dozen times to get this thing to power up the GPS but nothing ever…
Item worked fine in my Honda! I would buy it again.
Not a fast charger.
Really needed it for one our gps.
