Super cool addition to my Virb.

I’m extremely happy that I purchased this item. It is very useful for the Garmin Virb and in my opinion is a must have. It comes with a long lanyard/necklace cord, a short velcro strap for attaching to handlebars and a large velcro strap for wearing it like a wrist watch. I haven’t had any issues with use and it definitely comes in handy for when the camera is strapped to your head or when the Virb is in the Virb Dive Case because it allows you to utilize the photo function which is otherwise unreachable while secured in the dive case,

Particularly useful for cyclists.

The simplicity in using this device to control my Virb Ultra 30 while cycling, is the reason behind my purchase. While cycling, especially mountain biking, the two things necessary for me is safety while controlling my camera, and recording status. This device, with its simple push-to-record button, and flashing red light while recording, is all I need to directly address those two concerns. Its a step up from using the recording lever to determine my recording status (which I must do by feel, since my camera is mounted on my helmet, and not visible to me).The Garmin Virb Ultra 30 camera and Remote. A combo among the crowded action cam field, that I hope will not need upgrading for years to come.–4-12-17 update. While recording, the light would flash, but then stop flashing after 30 seconds. This is the result of the Virb camera itself, shutting off automatically. This problem and other problems required that I send back the camera for a replacement, which Garmin did under my one year warranty.

Controls the Virb just fine.Mounting options for a bike suck (doesn’t come with a mount that’s really “meant” for a bike).If you pick up the mounting kit for the Edge Remote (which is a separate device with an identical chassis), this becomes a 4-star item. That mount kit is compatible with this remote, and uses the same general rubber “o-ring”-based install that many Garmin devices use (compared with the velcro system that this remote uses).

Convenient

Initially I did not think I would need this remote, since the Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 Action Camera has a button and also accepts voice commands to take pictures and record videos, however, there are several situations where it is not convenient to use either option and where the remote is handy. For example, in a noise place, where there are a lot of people around you, using voice commands can be awkward. Also if the camera is mounted away from you (bike, tripod, selfie stick, helmet…) the remote is certainly useful. When it is recording, you can see a red LED blinking, which also nice. Who wants to believe that they recorded something important and then later realize that they did not?! I also like that you can do scuba diving. It is very small and can be concealed in your hand.What I do not like is the time that it takes to connect to the camera when you turn everything on. Usually I have to take a test picture to make sure it is connected and working. I also find it difficult to take it out and put it back to the wrist mount cradle, specially with one hand.

If you have a virb. You need this remote. It flashes red when recording… This way you know when it’s recording and when your battery is dead. Cameras on my helmet and I capture videos while riding. So it’s important I know when it stops recording. The photo button is awesome as well. ONLY thing I don’t like is the velcro strap. It doesn’t quite wrap around and touch the other end of the velcro to attach properly…

The VIRB remote does its job well. Initial pairing to the VIRB was easy and remote control of the camera is a breeze. It comes with 2 wrist bands and a small lanyard (more like a necklace). Whether worn around your wrist, neck, or steering wheel, this remote has no issues in triggering the record or single photo shoot function of the camera.

I couldn’t get it to pair with the Virb so I contacted Garmin customer service, which was difficult to find. Eventually, they got back to me with the recommendation to download and install the latest software for the Virb. This worked and the remote is now paired.It does what it is supposed to but it starts filming very slowly. It takes at least ten seconds after the button is pressed on the remote for the Virb to actually start filming. This may not be an issue for many, but it makes it much less useful for the situation I bought this for.Pros:Does what it’s supposed to do.Cons:The Virb reacts very slowly.Garmin support is very slow to respond.

Great for motorcycle use!

Makes activating my Virb Elite effortless - Mounted to the handle bars of my motorcycle - all it takes is a simple thumb extension and WHAM I am either snapping a picture of=r filming my video - No need to take my hands off the bars or eyes off the road! Outstanding!
