WORK SMARTER, MEASURE BETTER & BE MORE PRODUCTIVE WITH GENERAL TOOLS
I’ll be using this to sign stained glass and other items I make and hope to sell. I had tried an engraver that had a cord, and I’ve also tried using my Dremel with and without the flexible extension attachment, and I much prefer this one.Of course, as with any diamond-tipped bit, using a coolant liquid or even water on the surface of the item being engraved, plus pausing very frequently to reduce heat build-up, will make the bit last much longer and put less stress on the motor, which will make both work better and last longer.ADDITIONAL:Well, it’s now the end of August, so I’ve been using this nifty little widget for quite some time.I’m currently using it with a diamond ball-shaped bit to drill screw-holes in some stainless steel project-parts.Yes, it takes a while because hey, it runs on two AAA batteries, and doesn’t have the power of an industrial angle grinder, LOL!HOWEVER, what I like a lot is that, since it is small, I can actually control it, and use it on small parts.- So, I still like it!
It’s worth the asking price and the batteries last a long time. I read mixed reviews and decided to take a chance. It now lives in my tool box that I use at work. It’s by no means what you might consider an industrial engraver but it sure is handy. No longer do I bring a new tool to work and not have the capability to personalize it. To keep the button from being inadvertently held down while lying amongst my other tools I cut the bubble out, holding it to the card, placed it in that and wrapped some tape around it. to protect the button as well as the tip. I plan to make a protective case using PVC and two end caps.Several of my buddies have also used it to engrave their tools and asked where to get one.The only real issue, I found, is that I have no way to engrave the engraver. Maybe someone else will bring one in and we can engrave each others engravers! Hahaha!
Frustrating that it only worked for a few days. Got thru initialling about 10 tools before the tip stopped spinning. You can tighten the grip on her up with a hex screw but it’s teeth aren’t catching well. I wasn’t expecting high quality parts, but it’s all but useless now
It’s a decent little engraver. I’ve used it to customise knives (one 1095 carbon steel, one stainless), lighters, plastics, aluminum, and wood. The bit and the engraver themselves both stood up to them without any issue, and engrave at about the width of a medium point gel pen would write. Getting very deep engravings would take many a passes, and batteries. And that’s where the fifth star’s gone to.While it does everything fairly well, the batteries (as perhaps expected) go really quickly. A few hours of use, and you’ll be needing to replace the two triple A’s it uses. If you intend on grabbing this and using it often, be sure to also pick up a good amount of AAA batteries as well.
I didn’t know anything about these things and figured I’d be able quickly and easily engrave my initials in tools and plastic lockboxes (I’m in real estate). That is absolutely not the case. It takes very significant time to engrave any crude lettering, even in soft material like plastic. I threw it out and got a simple sharpie instead.
I would not buy this again. I would spend the additional $10 and get something with more power. I purchased this to engrave some metal and it would barely scratch the surface. However, it is well made.
After using it for 2.5 months, it has lost power. Even with new batteries, it will gain and lose power. Meaning, the force in which it uses to engrave. I only use it to write the date on aluminum tags during inspections at work. So, every day for 2.5 months, it has failed.
Ordered 2 and gave as gifts to runners who collect finisher medals. They love this! It works well and they can document their finish times on the back of their medal.
Arrived with batteries. Works great.
Small pen like size would be nice. Won’t mark most of my belongings. Very slow to do the ones it will. I will have to stick with old style plug in.
Good
Nice
This is absolute junk! I used it to engrave my kid’s name on the back of her Nintendo Switch…it barely spun when first used and then when I went to engrave the first character…
Excrllent
Not bad. Works
Excellent quality, It’s so cool and so great! Nice for the price. You can buy one for yourself or somebody else maybe.
Works as advertised.
