Product Reviews

For use with hero 3+/hero 4. great product out of the box, would buy again.

For those wondering what gopro cameras THIS specific kit is for, it’s for the hero 3+/hero 4. It mounts to the back of the 3+/4 as pictured and comes with 3 back doors for the hero 3+/4 housing. 3 doors included; 1 skeleton(open to touch the screen directly), 1 waterproof touch case(has a thin plastic membrane in the back to touch the screen with but is only waterproof to 3m/10’), and the full waterproof back(functions as normal waterproof back. screen not touchable but is view-able). the extra side button is for turning the display on, playback mode, and off. overall it’s very easy to use and go through menus to change settings.I like that I can now frame my shots better and see what I’ve recorded. it adds some thickness to the camera but i’m not concerned about it. I’d only use to it line up shots and see how they came out. it doesn’t need to be on all the time… to conserve battery life. I don’t know how it effects battery life yet, but i’m not too worried about that. I use a telesin 1300mAh/4.81Wh aftermarket battery with the gopro hero 3+ factory(1180mAh/3.885Wh) battery as backup with my 3+ silver. The package also includes a plastic protective case for when the lcd display is not in use.The display does not look to be an HD resolution screen and does not zoom on playback. You can delete media selectively. Whole groups of burst shots/individual pictures from the burst, videos, etc. instead of last/all.Few notes about the touch bacpac door from the GoPro official site:“The LCD Touch BacPac backdoor has a thin plastic film across the back that lets you use the BacPac’s touch functionality even while in the housing. The backdoor’s thin plastic film can however be damaged if there is a big difference in air pressure between the inside and outside of the waterproof housing. It’s important that you are aware of the conditions that can cause this, so that you take the necessary precautions to prevent damage to the film. Here are some scenarios where the plastic film can become damaged:If you close the door at sea level, with or without camera installed, and take it to high altitude, it will bulge and “blow out” (i.e. like bringing a bag of chips up to the top of a mountain)If you close the door at high altitude with no camera installed, and come down to sea level, it will bulge inwards. If you close the door at cold weather, and turn camera on, it will bulge out slightly (i.e. like heating up food in a closed Tupperware)If you plan to use the camera in any such scenarios, we recommend that you do not use the LCD touch door, but rather the fully sealed waterproof door or skeleton back door.To avoid damaging the plastic film during travel, be sure to either detach the backdoor from the housing or leave the housing open. You should also be sure to seal the housing in a warm environment and power on the camera to let the air in the housing warm up before taking it out into cold weather.“Edit:Kit comes with a short mount extension. Out of the box gopros come with a 90 degree turned extension. This one is straight. Also, double-tapping the screen goes between live view and playback. Holding the side display button for 3 seconds turns it off.

Save your money

A very unnecessary addition, especially for the price. People like it for changing settings, but it’s easier and faster to use the buttons on the camera after you get used to the camera. The single worst feature is the battery consumption of this item. While I’m unimpressed with the battery consumption with the GoPro in general, adding this BacPac significantly reduces the battery life. And the most annoying feature that I haven’t found yet if it even exists, is to turn the lcd screen off manually. Trying to conserve power, everytime the screen is on, it only goes off by an automatic timer of inactivity. I’d like a button, one action, to turn off the screen immediately when I want. That doesn’t exist and is an obvious oversight. If you get 20 minutes of footage with the BacPac on, consider yourself lucky. More like 5-10 min.The GoPro, imo, is best mounted to items, and using this BacPac doesn’t allow you to mount to some items, like a headstrap or anything where it’s best the GoPro back mounts flush. The #1 use for this is with a motion stabilizer, or when you are shooting with an attachment that you are controlling with your hands. It’s nice to see the shot you are shooting, especially distance shots. I’m not impressed with the GoPro with these kind of shots anyways.

Convenient to snap on and off and adds flexibility to navigating menus on your GoPro Hero4 (Mine is Black Edition) Camera.

May not be a must have for your Hero4 Camera since IPhone can also give you feedback but VERY convenient to have this and use your Hero4 as a regular camera so you know the field of vision for your photos.I have not used it for videos and unsure how aggressive it affects battery duration if you keep it on while shooting video.Convenient to snap on and off and adds flexibility to navigating menus on your GoPro Hero4 (Mine is Black Edition) Camera.

Great for lining up shots

Excellent accessory for quickly and easily being able to frame your shots or test out spots for mounting your GoPro. I used the LCD screen for mounting my GoPro Hero 4 Black to my jet ski. The screen helps to easily test out different mounting locations and being able to easily check the camera angle. The battery drain is pretty significant, so I wouldn’t recommend keeping it on all the time unless you have spare batteries on hand. Works great for changing all the camera settings easily without the need to go through the hassle of getting the GoPro app up and running. It’s also a better choice for checking mounting locations than using the phone app because you don’t have to use two hands to adjust the camera (one on the camera and one on your phone). So when you pick a spot to place the adhesive mounts, you’re not fumbling around with your hands full, and it’s easy to place the mount plate.

Super useful. Perfect Shots!

I need this in order to be able balance my Steadicam Curve.I love using this when theres alot going on to make sure I can frame each shot to include what I want.It sucks when you look at footage later only to find out you cut out something that would have made your shot perfect.Using the screen keeps that from happening.Unfortunately it also eats up the battery and heats up the camera alot quicker! Get some spares.

Issues with app and LCD BacPac

fyi – After numerous calls to GoPro customer service, I’m told the latest iPhone GoPro app update (2.12.1) has connectivity/paring issues when used with the GoPro Hero4 Black and the GoPro LCD BacPac.I basically have to pair the iPhone and my GoPro every time I turn the GoPro back on after it’s been off for several hours - IF - I have the GoPro LCD BacPac attached.Absolutely ridiculous that two GoPro products can’t work together properly. So 5 stars when it worked correctly - ZERO stars after the app update and how it now negates the pairing with my iPhone!

I just got my item after how many weeks because …

I just got my item after how many weeks because of Hurricane Irma and Maria. I Was so excited to open the box. The LCD is work but the back case didn’t fit. It’s too small of my case, I don’t think to pay that amount of money plus the tax and shipping is worth it.
