For 4.5 and 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Bowls
The KitchenAid Flex Edge Beater provides great scraping performance for more thorough, faster ingredient incorporation.
I can’t believe I suffered for years using the plain-metal beater that came with my KitchenAid mixer. I bake a lot of common things—brownies, cakes, cookies—and the standard metal beater does a terrible job at incorporating the ingredients from the sides and bottom of the bowl. The flexible rubber edge on this beater serves perfectly to act as a spatula, so I don’t have to manually do the scraping. It’s hard to believe that just the slight increase (see photo) in size and form could make such a difference, but it does!
After reading the reviews from those who received a beater in a plastic bag rather than the retail packaging when ordering from a third party seller here, I opted to order from another merchant (not Seneca River Trading) with fulfillment by Amazon since I am an Amazon Prime member and the beater wasn’t available for direct purchase from Amazon. I thought that maybe, since Amazon is actually storing and shipping the product and nothing stated otherwise, that I would receive something in its original retail packaging as if I’d purchased it directly from Amazon… Mine also came in a Whirlpool FSP plastic bag, but Whirlpool does own KitchenAid. (I did check the extra info for the item from the other merchants offering the beater, and as of writing this, only one stated that the beater would be packaged in plastic bag rather than retail packaging.)I ended up going to a brick & mortar store to buy the beater at its $29.99 retail price in order to compare the two. There are other listings on Amazon for the very same beater where it is clear you’re getting the manufacturer’s replacement part rather than something in retail packaging. These listings do use Whirlpool’s replacement part number rather than the KitchenAid retail model number. I just wish other merchants would be more forthcoming with this information. If it’s not in retail packaging, just say so. Regardless, for saving about 40% off the retail price, I don’t miss the extra packaging. That said, the beaters look and feel practically identical. (For those that are still suspicious, there are similar part and packaging numbers on the plastic bag packaging as well as the plastic shell holding the beater in the retail packaging and the retail box itself.) I have already used the beater I purchased here, and it seems just fine. In fact, it’s great. The beater works just as it should. Every ingredient I had in the bowl incorporated easily, and I didn’t have to scrape down the sides or bottom at all.
After researching flex edge beaters, I was a bit nervous with this one since it has mixed reviews. It does scrape the bowl, but not as well as I thought it would. My expectations were super high for this because I hate scraping the bowl when I’m on a roll! It does okay, just not what I expected.
I finally (after years of wishing for one) got a KitchenAid mixer for my birthday this year, and this was the first thing I bought myself for it. The mixer I received came with the whisk, dough hook, and beater attachments, but this is definitely going to be my most used attachment. I love the convenience of not having to stop and scrape the bowl. It’s very handy and works well, as long as you’ve adjusted the screw that sets the beaters at the right height in your machine. Very handy and worth the price!
Saves a lot of time not having to stop the mixer and scrape bowl. It was as a little difficult to initially install onto my mixer - too tight - but after a few good pushes it went in. I did put a small amount of oil inside the attachment hole and now it goes on/off without a hitch. Wish I had bought this scraper a long time ago! Would recommend.
I wish KitchenAid included this beater with their mixers, just greedy that they don’t.But now that I have it, I really appreciate not being tempted to stick in anything handy just to scrape the sides. There is still a thin rim of ingredients up about the beater on the sides of the bowl that you must mix in but it really saves time on stopping the bowl to scrape often.
I tried the plastic model and it broke on the second use. You may need to adjust the depth setting on your mixer to get a snug seal between the beater and your bowl. There is a set screw on the inside of the mixer’s hinge. Turn to the right to lower the blade more deeply into the bowl. Go 1⁄2 a turn at a time between test runs. Forget the plastic, go metal!
My Kitchen Aid Mixer came with a beater, but decided to get this since the purpose of it was to scrape the sides when mixing. Not sure why it is not included in the mixer itself as it seems like a no brainer. But, it is definitely worth the extra money to have it. I use this over the one that came with the mixer. It does it all for me. Great technology/design. Does exactly what it says it does. Easily mixes a cake or whatever you are making and well mixed and neat when it is all said and done. And it doesn’t ruin the bowl which is a bonus.
If you have a kitchen aid this product is a most. I love it!!!!
Discovered this from The Great British Baking Show and it has been amazing for use with my Kitchen Aid. Don’t have to scrape the sides of the bowl anymore.
Wonderful addition to my kitchen aid
It doesn’t seem to scrape against the bowl. I still need to use a spatula by hand, especially on the bottom. I thought this would restrict the need for that but it doesn’t.
I AM SO HAPPY I ORDERED THIS, Can’t live without it!!!!
Enjoy using this! Scrapes the sides well so I’m not having to go back with a spatula. Definitely recommend!
This beater works pretty well. but the batter or whatever I am mixing tends to rise above the beater, requiring me to wipe around the bowl with a rubber spatula.
Fit my mixer perfectly and works beautifully. Great addition and I use both this one and the plain beater, especially when using two bowls and don’t want to stop to wash one.
Good paddle mixer would buy again
