I bought this bowl to replace the glass one, which is extremely heavy, that came with my mixer. It fits correctly but very tightly and requires a significant amount of leverage to successfully latch onto its hooks. Unfortunately, because of the difference in thickness between the pyrex glass and the steel bowl, the beaters do not scrape or touch the sides of the metal bowl. It’s manageable with continual scrapping to combine ingredients but the process is somewhat more labor intensive than with the glass bowl. I haven’t decided which bowl is better. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Poor quality
Not well made. Just received it directly from Kitchenaid and it is made in India. The rivets on the bottom of the handle are indented on the inside of the bowl and one of the side “bowl lifting holes” is all askew. Poorly made. I have not tried it so I don’t know what others are talking about the film that forms on food. But will certainly write an update if it does discolor the food.
Very Cheap Quality from India - Do No Recommend!!!
The bowl is made in India and is very cheap quality!!! I washed the bowl several times and wiping it off with a paper towel always shows a black residue. I called the Kitchen Aid customer service line and they suggested wiping it out with olive oil…no help. Cheap quality explains the lower price, but I recommend ordering the one directly from Kitchen Aid. I will not use this one…no telling what would end up in the food! I’m past the 30 day return window, so this one is a total loss.Also - Don’t be deceived. It’s listed as a Kitchen Aid bowl, yet when I called the company, they said theirs has a number on the bottom. This one doesn’t.
What can I say, but that it does the job.
I love my professional Kitchen Aid mixer. It does exactly what I want it to do. The only problem is that when you have only one mixing bowl, it is hard to do a double batch, especially of very touchy dough’s such as brioche. I was making two batches of brioche, and the recipe warned against doubling, so I mixed them up manually, in glass bowls. Never again. At various points, the dough gets very thick. I tried mixing it with a hand-held, and that was a disaster. So, enter a second big bowl for those special times, when I want to make more than a little dough. The bowl is identical to the one which came with the mixer.
Interesting side effect
Fit perfectly in my machine and arrived very quickly. Only downside I am noticing is that the bowl bleeds into baked goods (they get a silver film).

This bowl is GREAT. I purchased a 6-quart stand mixer w/glass bowl and I can’t use the rubber spatula attachment on it but this bowl allows me to use spatula without incedent. Thank you

Our machine comes with a glass bowl (newer model), and we thought it would be nice to also have a metal bowl, and so we purchased this bowl. The bowl fits well, but somehow we wish that the blade would go deeper into the bowl for a more thorough mixing; the food at the bottom of the bowl was never well mixed/ground/blended.
Very Satisfied
I was a little nervous when ordering this bowl, after all, anyone who owns a KitchenAid stand mixer, whether lift or tilt, and wants to buy accessories, usually runs into a wall of confusion as to which accessory will fit your mixer model. However, after reading many reviews on Amazon I decided to take a chance on this one as several reviewers had stated that they also had a 5.5 quart mixer purchased from Cosco’s. Because my unit was not the same model number as others who had purchased this unit, I was concerned that this 6 quart unit might not fit. To my surprise it fit perfectly. The unit arrived ahead of schedule, and without any defect or blemish. Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase, and would recommend this seller.

It does fit my mixer, but it’s too wide and the attachments don’t get close enough to the edge to pull in ingredients that are on walls of the bowl.
