Love this TV so far …. Easy set up and Gorgeous picture. Navigating to the apps is a mere touch of the button on the remote.
LG 49 inch UJ7700 Happy owner
Have owned 49 inch UJ7700 TV for a week. It replaced a 4 year old 47 inch LG. Using TV with Roku 4k streaming plus, Sling, Prime, Netflk, and outdoor antenna. All sources work fine. I needed to turn off the eco (energy saving) setting that is turned on when the TV arrives. It caused pulsating of brightness that was very distracting and made the picture appear washed out. For me the best sound setting was achieved by using the built in software that projects various sounds that are received by you holding your remote where you normally sit and letting the TV calibrate the optimal sound. TV internal speakers seem okay for casual viewing since this is not our main TV. I suggest for anyone concerned about cookies, tracking your viewing, etc. that you go carefully through the menus and turn some/all of these features OFF. I haven’t done anything much with 4k and HDR setting yet but based on technical reviews don’t expect a lot for this level of TV. I have not used the built in Apps yet. So far I’m happy with the TV and would buy it again. Note: I used Amazon Installation service and loved it. Great service and reasonably priced.

A couple pluses don’t compensate for many minuses
After 10 years with my “great at the time but subpar now” Sony HDTV (1080p), I decided I was finally ready to make the jump to a 4K set. Part of this decision stemmed from an ill-advised decision on my part: starting out looking at the top of the line models, not the ones actually in my price range. In a nutshell that’s how I ended up going with an LG: I saw one of their OLED models in a local store and my eyes nearly popped out in amazement. Also, most of my online research suggested LG was definitely the go-to manufacturer for any OLED set … which led to an error on my part: I failed to do sufficient research on LG’s non OLED models, including the UJ7700. Had I done so, I would’ve known in advance the problems with it I’m about to detail, and most likely picked a Sony model instead.On the plus side, however, I realized early on that the difference in picture quality between standard 4K and 4K HDR was significant enough to convince to choose the latter, particularly since the price differential isn’t that much. And yes, this TV displays truly fantastic color, and at a depth that makes my old 1080p TV look like a relic from the CRT television days. Sports in particular look flat-out astonishing; I know it sounds cheesy to say it feels like you’re there in the stadium watching, but that’s the best description for it! (and in particular for football) And TV shows that are brightly lit, like the cartoon stuff my nephews like to watch, look stunning as well. Finally, I was quite skeptical when I read that HDR models are particularly effective at upscaling broadcast-HD stuff, but my inaugural show I watched on my set was the season finale of “Game of Thrones” and … well, let’s just say my friends employed a wide variety of enthusiastically employed words-unsuitable-for-Amazon-reviews to describe the picture quality, and most of all the display’s depth-of-color abilities.The problems start when it comes to displaying the opposite, however: blacks. (And my friends noticed the same thing I did with GoT’s darker-shot scenes as well.) The one thing I disliked with my old Sony from day one is the widely known tradeoff (at the time) between LCD and plasma screens: LCDs simply cannot accurately display blacks – or, really, any color even approaching black (e.g. dark grays – and “true black” is an effective impossibility. The ability to display “true black” was one of the biggest reasons I decided to upgrade in the first place, and it’s the primary reason this LG model is a disappointment.The set has Netflix built in, which is nice, but I realized the problem with its black-display abilities as soon as I watched my first show at 4K resolution (“The Defenders,” which like all newer Netflix series is shown in 4K). Instead of a uniform black in many of the scenes, my screen is pitch black on the edges but “faded” black in the center – even when the scene being display is not lit a single bit in the center. In effect, its blacks are always “washed out” in the center. While I did not have it professionally installed, I tried calibrating its color settings with three different online tutorials specific to LG models; none of them worked. Even worse, the problem persists throughout all the various options for picture display (e.g. low/medium/high HDR, cinema, expert-level in low-light rooms, expert-level in well-lit rooms, etc.).And then there’s the “smart remote.” Even as a gadget nerd, I decided it was the single most infuriating piece of hardware I’d encountered since I made the mistake of buying one of the early-generation in-dash navigation systems for a car purchased circa 2005. In a nutshell, it attempts to replicate the functionality of a computer trackpad or mouse … except by pointing it at the screen instead of moving its “cursor” on a flat surface. Yes, that’s a paradigm shift as confusing as it sounds. Just as irritating is knowing that LG spent however much R&D effort trying to make something “cool” but then left out one of THE most basic utilitarian parts of any TV remote: backlighting! Even my ancient Time Warner DVR remote has that! Worse, it’s nearly impossible to “feel” your way around it in the dark, so you need to turn on a light to adjust pretty much anything. And while LG has app-based remotes for both iPhones and Androids, the app is even more confusing than the remote! (and lacks quite a bit of its functionality - to its credit, the remote has dedicated buttons for both Netflix and Amazon streaming, which I’d say is critically important given that they’re presently two of the only providers of streaming 4K content).So: if you typically watch TV in a well-lit room and prefer sports and mainstream network shows, this set is a solid option. If the ability to display true blacks is high on your priority list, I’d strongly suggest looking at Sony’s various HDR models as an alternative – though they admittedly cost somewhat more, in terms of comparing sets on an apples-to-apples basis in terms of size and functionality. Finally, you should definitely take heed of this model’s curious inclusion of two support brackets at its edges instead of the typical center-oriented stands seen on most (assuming you’re not wall-mounting it. I actually had to go out and buy a new media console just to sit the thing down!

The TV was easy to set up and the remote works quite well. I took everyone’s advice and turned the power saving functions off which brightened the picture noticeably. That was a good thing since it appeared a bit dark and dull when we first turned it on. I’m not really sure what they mean by “Truemotion 120”, because the 2017 model appears to be a 60 hz refresh rate. I haven’t fooled with any of the custom settings yet because the picture is quite acceptable as is. I may tweak it in the future as we view more content. Streaming apps work well but be advised that LG can track what you watch and sell that information if they wish. Haven’t tried any 4K content yet. Sound quality is average, we wound up getting a good quality sound bar for it after we mounted it on the wall. Overall it’s a good value for a $1000 TV, but don’t start comparing it to it’s richer QLED cousins or you will be somewhat disappointed.
Switched from Samsung, Finally!
Very mixed reviews on this set depending on where you read them. The one I love the most is where it says the tv doesn’t get very bright.
