Unit is great, but update software

Unit is great for the most part. Plays BluRay and DVD and BluRay looks sharper as expected. Apps are great especially YouTube and Amazon Prime which I use a lot. One super thing about YouTube is that you can connect Tablet, PC or smartphone and this makes it easier to type in searches for music or videos. One bad thing so far is it does freeze sometimes and I have to unplug the power from the back of the unit and replug to unfreeze it. The power on light stays on, it blinks when I send commands but nothing happens. I would rate it a five star if this problem didn’t exist. I looked for answers on LG’s site but so far haven’t found anything. I have owned the unit only 4 days. I will have to return it if it continues to occasionally freeze but I will try to get another of the same unit, and if that one freezes I’ll have to give up on this unit. But I like the features and the price. I did update the software so that isn’t the problem, and I see other reviews mention the same freeze problem. I’m raising the review to 5 star since my last software update removed the freeze problem so far. I used it quite a bit and downloaded the Smartshare software to my PC so that it now shares photos, music and videos from my PC via the BP550. It has made my older PG non-smart TV into a smart TV.

The lg DP550 . Plugged it in , hooked it up ,turned it on and requested we do an update . Fine , had read another review that said they also had to .OK . Did up date . Played a disk , looked through every app it came with . Watched some Amazon Prime , great picture , great sound no problem . A couple of weeks later , turned it on , nothing but a white screen . Tried to turn it off , white screen . Tried to turn it off mannually . White screen . Unplugged it waited about 5 min . Plugged it back in , no problems until 10 days after 30 day return , white screen again . A replay like before . Froze up watching anything wifi . Then it just picked random times to freeze up , and the only way to shut it off was to unplug it . The last straw was when watching Sat. Tv ,, turns itself on , white screen , unplug . Left unplugged . Was going to call Lg and square trade protection plan the next day , since it was past the 30 day return . Couldn’t sleep , it’s after midnight . Amazon says ²⁴⁄₇ service . Called , got service person second ring . Told him what was going on with the unit , and told him it was past the 30 day window . He told me that they would issue me a refund , keep the old unit didn’t want it back , and hoped I would still do business Amazon . …….. I asked ,” I want to be sure I’ve got this straight . You know it’s past the 30 days , your sending me a refund anyway , and you don’t want the unit back ?” “ Yes , he said , that’s exactly right ! No stars if it were possible for the unit . 5 Stars for Amazon service and customer service personnel !

Does not stream Amazon Video as advertised!

I purchased this bluray player for two reasons:1. It streams Amazon Video2. It loads discs faster than my old Samsung blurayThis unit has an option for Amazon; however, it goes away when the software is updated. To get it back, you need to reset to factory settings, which automatically updates the software every time. Each time you reset factory settings, you need to reestablish the connection to your WiFi. Putting in your password is clumsy, awkward, and cumbersome. I called LG tech support, and there is no way to turn off the automatic updates.Now for the streaming. This machine doesn’t seem to know what streaming is really about. I have a 75Mbps connection to the internet. My WiFi router is AC/n/g/b/a on dual band. My living room laptop consistently connects at 144Mbps to my LAN. Fast, no problems here. However, this LG BP550 will only stream for 3-8 minutes before either indefinitely buffering or locking up. The problem is either connectivity or the on board RAM that cannot be increased. You have to press the BACK button and then hit resume. Sometimes this will work, sometimes not. Remember, if you go back to the main menu, or turn it off, the updated software now precludes you from re-entering Amazon Video. You will have to reset the factory settings and reconnect to your WiFi. Why bother?2. This machine does load discs quickly and starts playing quickly. The quality of bluray disc playback is excellent. DVD upscaling leaves a bit to be desired on the LG BP550.I hope I have saved you some time.Do you know of a machine that meets my two criterion at the top? Please let me know by leaving a comment.

Good DVD Player and Substitute Smart TV

Good DVD player substitute for a smart TV.. I was able to connect it to my wireless internet to access my Amazon Prime as well as netflix. etc. My only complaint is that you have to download the manual from the internet and print it out yourself. Why not just give you a copy in the package? You definitely need to read the instructions before using this…there are not many instructions on screen. I couldn’t figure out out to update the software, and then I read the instructions and it said you could push the unlabeled blue button on the remote. Also, I couldn’t shut the thing off, and then read that you have to take the disc out first. You also can’t have a disc in the machine when you update and you cannot touch any buttons on the remote or it cancels the update. Also you need the instructions to enable the remote to turn on the TV and adjust the volume. I might add that this player was not compatible with my old (very old) led TV, and I ended up having to buy a new TV as well. If I had it to do all over, I would have sent this back and just bought a smart TV to begin with, but I was determined to make this work!! the quality is very good and hopefully it will last me a while.

It has serious issues.

Cute little unit however here are the issues: 1 - has to be updated by hooking it up to your router for download. 2 - No analog audio output.

No longer works!

I purchased this a couple of years ago, used it once and it was OK. The other day I tried to use it and it will not power on. The power adapter checks OK.
