Product Reviews

The OTA is very good, but not the package.

As a starter telescope with the supplied tripod, diagonal & eyepieces this scope deserves a 2 to 3 star rating. You would be better off to spend $60 more for the blue colored infinity model (209004) that comes with a much better tripod & eyepieces. The optical telescope assembly (OTA) is the same for both models. It is very good and that the reason I bought this package. I felt for $99 the telescope alone was worth it to me. I already have a tripod, diagonal and many excellent eyepieces.I got very respectable views of Saturn and the Andromeda galaxy the first time I use the OTA and this was in very light polluted sky’s. This telescope has a very short focal length of only 400mm, so it produces a wide field of view (FOV). That is why I bought it, so i could look at star formations like the Pleiades (seven sisters). There are better starter scopes for high magnification, but many astronomical curiosities require a wide field at low magnification to see the entire object. I just like scanning around the sky with the 4.0 degree FOV this OTA offers.

good scope but accessories need upgrading

the scope itself is good but for any serious astronomy all the accessories will have to be upgraded especially the tripod accept maybe the finder scope i like using an old 50mm finder i have so you can hunt down deep sky objects

Two Stars

The tripod was poor quality

Very poor build quality

Very poor build quality. The only use I could see this providing would be looking out over landscapes, It isn’t powerful enough to see anything in the night sky with detail (even the moon). You will also need to buy your own tripod, as the one provided is complete garbage. All in all I would say 100$ is too cheap a price point for any half decent telescope, the mediocre views I managed to get were not worth the incredible pain of dealing such poor construction.
