why it didn’t work for us

Here’s why this didn’t work for us. I don’t like the design of how the glass is held in place. It uses a small piece of plastic to clamp down on one side of the glass shelf. The other side is just the metal wall mounting bracket. So the next day I find the shelf shattered all over the floor. My guess is someone may have tried to lift the shelf up just being curious. With no give on on metal side of the clamp, the glass gave up. Another piece of plastic or rubber on the metal side would probably help a lot. But I didn’t have it clamped that tight. Frustrated. Also, the main mounting screws provided are lag bolts without washers. Not a problem for me as I have a collection of screws, but it would be better to have something smaller and even slightly aesthetic rather than large shiny hex head bolts that you get at Home Depot for a garage project. You will probably want better dry wall anchors too. It’s a nice compact shelf otherwise. So keep the clamp on the glass loose and tell kids an employees don’t touch the shelf!

Good value

I ordered one of these for a friend who found herself needing to mount a small set-top box near a TV that is on a swinging wall mount in her kitchen. Her cable TV provider (Charter Communications) is phasing out direct COAX-to-TV connections. This mount is the perfect size for the STB and it has a pleasant design. The glass is attached to the metal bracket with double-sided tape, allowing you to either mount the glass flush with the wall, or allow a small gap to pass cables between the wall and back edge of the glass. There are only two drawbacks:1. The mounting hardware isn’t ideal for drywall installations. The included anchors are suitable for mounting into studs, but don’t do a good job with drywall and hollow spaces. I replaced the anchors with toggle bolts.2. The weight of the STB makes the shelf droop because the bracket isn’t gusseted. The small Charter Communications STB is relatively light, lighter than a DVR or DVD/Blu-Ray player would be, and the front of the shelf sits about one inch lower than the back when the STB is on it. I worked out in my case because I happened to leave enough space to have enough clearance between the bottom of the shelf and the TV below it, but cosmetically it doesn’t look great and if you don’t anticipate the droop, you may wind up with extra holes in the wall that you will need to fill in.

Tough to mount into wall stud and still center it below wall mounted tv.

As no stud was located centered below where my tv wall bracket is mounted, I ended up sinking wall anchors , then beefy enough screws through the drywall only in order to achieve an aesthetically pleasing mount position relative to my tv. Still, the glass shelf to this unit that my cable receiver now sits atop, leans in a slight, but noticeable to me, downward slope from the wall as if it were pulling away and out.of the wall, which it is NOT. Though it has this appearance, the mount is secured safe and quite snug to the drywall. Next time I will look for any additional component wall mounts that come with adjustable brackets that I am certain can be fastened through drywall to a wall stud in order to avoid any slight or otherwise detectable sagging shelves. Also, no caps to hide the stainless steel hardware that glares at you from below the blacked put finish on the glass shelf and the black paint finish on the wall mounted bracket. I give it an, “ok”, as in a semi-reluctant, “it’ll do” overall.

Nice glass, but design for mounting is not the …

Nice glass, but design for mounting is not the most intelligent. The screws provided are large (w/ plastic anchors), long and disposed tight to each other within the center piece holder, giving leeway for the shelf to slightly tip L or R. I had to use the expanding type wing screws (toggle bolts) to fasten the centerpiece to the wall as this center-screws design wouldn’t allow exploiting the studs behind the wall. Tightening the shelf to the centerpiece bracket by squeezing two plastic pieces up-down at the mid point of the shelf rear edge was a challenge as you would need extra hands coupled w/ your fear of breaking the glass. The saddest part is that the shelf when properly adjusted, leveled is a bit shallow of depth, since in our case there is not enough room for the AC in-plug, the coax-in cable to run smooth the narrow gap between the wall and the rear of our small 11x8x2 set-top-box, making the whole set up look incongruous and defeating the purpose of the black shelf styling

Worst. Mount. Ever.

To say this was the worst possible choice in a wall mount would be an understatement. The supplied bolts and drywall anchors aren’t even compatibly sized; they simply don’t anchor as the bolts are too thin to push the anchor’s “wings” out, so it just pulls right out of the wall with minimal weight applied to it. Moreover, the assembly instructions, if one could be so bold as to call them instructions at all, are so far from clear it’s near impossible to actually assemble without just eyeballing it based on the picture on the box. So yeah, I’m pretty disappointed.

blood, sweat and tears

Lucky to have both eyes still intact.I had this installed professionally, (as part of a larger project).Once mounted, the shelf was no where near level. The arms below the glass are far too short, extending less than half way along the length of the glass. It’s like a mouse trap ready to snap with the slightest pressure. Leaning in closer to look at how poorly made the shelf actually was, the entire glass surface shattered. Even the description “tempered glass” is misleading. Believe me, there were plenty of razor sharp shards among the shattered chunks of glass.A kindergartner could have designed a better shelf.

Horrible….

Fell out of the will with almost no weight on it! The screw holes are too low so when you screw the item into the wall it will slant down… This thing is garbage! Now I’m fixing the hole in my wall!

Three Stars

It was hard to mount

Spectrum TV box

Perfect size for Spectrum tv box

Wish it could have been better

Mount was not very supportive, without anything on the shelf tilted down and was pulling out of the wall even with the anchors.

Nice Shelf

Clean looking shelf, has a slight down-tilt even when installed with a level but works well for what I purchased it for.
