You CAN charge this from a wall outlet, you could even use the cord that came with your switch, you do not have to be playing it for it to charge. I don’t know why they’re lying about it but they are I literally have it plugged into my wall and it’s working great. I had both of my sets of joy cons charged within five hours after I got this and plugged it into the wall . I will even include pictures showing that it’s charging from the wall, The reason this upsets me is simply twice I almost did not purchase something because of what I read and reviews in both times I decided to go ahead the worst that can happen is I would have to return it and both times I found that The majority of the 3 to 1 star reviews were made up there was nothing true with it and I’m really sad about that, I don’t want people missing out on a great product because somebody is better about a Nintendo product. I will say this and it’s sad and it’s petty but there are a lot of people in the gaming community who were going out of their way to try to make the Nintendo switch fail and I don’t understand it there are problems admittedly I haven’t had any issues with my system and I don’t know anybody that’s had issues with their systems but I have heard reports, but that happens with every product at lunch let’s be realistic. back to the point this product works great I am very happy with it I encourage anybody that has two sets of joy cons to get this one charger after that you won’t need anything else :-) I’ve taken pictures with it plugged into the wall I’ve taken pictures of it in comparison to the grip that came with the system, I’ve taken pictures of it connected to the switch while charging, I’ve taken pictures of it connected to the wall connected to the switch while charging,((( now there is one thing you will see that the light is on in all of these pictures , that light don’t stay on the entire time it’s being charged that light shuts off after a couple seconds it’s just like the docking station that light comes on to let you know hey it’s in there and then it shuts off while it charging .))) I hope that this helps guys I’ve just read so much misinformation and there’s a lot of people again who were just really hoping that the switch fails and I don’t understand it, wey Xbox Nintendo PlayStation and even some random offbrand stuff LOL we have every system dating back from nes every major system I’m not a Nintendo fan girl I just love videogames and I hate when I see things being misrepresented because a certain group doesn’t like it

Charging grip includes a usb-a to usb-c cable. You can actually use the cable included to charge the switch too provided you have a usb-a port that can provide the power needed. Charging grip charges the joycon with the included cable as expected. No issues so far.

I had to buy this in person at a physical retail store, because when I tried to buy it new on Amazon from Amazon directly, Amazon sent me an obviously opened and used package, where the actual Charging grip was replaced with the stock, non-charging grip.The version I bought at the store works fine, almost exact same shape as the normal Joy-Con grip that comes with the Switch, just with a USB C port and yellow LED indicator to show that the controllers are charging on the top edge. It has metal rails, and has semi-transparent plastic to differentiate it from the standard grip. All in all, a solid build that really should have been part of the basic Joy-Con grip.No integrated battery to charge the Joy-Cons on its own; it’s basically a pricey, grip-shaped USB adapter for your Joy-Cons, nothing more.Comes with a Nintendo-branded USB-A to USB-C charging cable of decent length, 6 ft.

Charging Grip for Joy-Cons

The joy-con grip does it’s job, charges my switch joy-cons relatively quick, but why these aren’t included with a purchase of the switch blows my mind. The regular grip that comes with the Switch package is non-chargable…But at least this charging grip does it’s job, for an extra $30….

Useful if you own more joy con

If you have spare joy cons, this is a great option to create more “complete controllers” Also the benefit of charging the joy cons that don’t usually go onto the switch for charging. (the extra pairs you might have) I really wish this was included with the switch from the start though.

I’d recommend finding it at a discount

Nicer feel than the stock Joy-Con Grip, and I’ve only played long enough on the TV to need to charge the Joy-Cons twice so far. I’d recommend finding it at a discount, but I’ll be glad I have it when Mario Kart comes out later this month.

Very much easier to use than connecting your joy cons to the Switch

This is much more convenient than the joy con grip you get with the switch. I didn’t want to keep having to put the joy cons on and off of the Switch because that’s potentially going to wear out connections. This is much better, just plug it in when needed.
