Product Reviews

Great traditional controller feel

The Switch Pro Controller is an awesome traditional gamepad. I’ve used many controllers in the past and in terms of comfort, this is up there with the XB1 and PS4. It takes the grip feeling of the PS4 controllers with the button layout of the XB1 controllers. It has definitely made playing Zelda a lot easier (vs the Joy Cons / Joy Con Charging Grip). This controller is a bit pricey (69.99) but it doubles up as a PC controller, includes the HD rumble, rechargeable battery, and Amiibo functionality. In the box also includes a 5 foot long USB C cable. I’ve included a picture for size comparisons if anyone is curious

It’s a step up from using the joycons in a few areas, but not without issues

I’ve used this controller to play the last 30 hours of Zelda BOTW. Consider my review a summary of the pros/cons of using this controller instead of the joycons.PROS- Much wider grip and fee. With the joycons, your palms are forced to be closer together. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily of course. But it’s a subjective con for me. With the Pro Controller, I get that pleasant feeling of having my palms spaced further apart.- Solid build construction. Nowhere does it feel they cheaped out.- Excellent battery life. Haven’t had to charge it once. The joycons ran out of juice every few days and required constantly placing them back in the dock.- Bigger buttons and joystick. Left joycon’s joystick was way too damn prone to accidental down presses, triggering accidental crouches.- Joycon controllers no longer need to be removed or reinstalled each time to play a game in docked mode when you can just pick up the Pro controller and start playing!CONS- The d-pad is definitely not without issues. I found it to be imprecise, at least initially. Pressing up on the d-pad sometimes triggered left or right presses. I find that the PS4’s dualshock controller’s semi-separation of the d-pad’s directional keys is superior (see comparison pic below). After over a week of using it, it seems to have improved. But I still get the rare mispress.- No 3.5mm jack. If you want to use headphones in the living room while playing in docked TV mode, your options are (1) get a really long 3.5mm audio cable for your wired headphones or (2) get a 3.5mm bluetooth transmitter along with bluetooth headphones. Again, PS4’s dualshock controller gets it right on this mark as you can plug 3.5mm headphones into its 3.5mm jack. Both cons warrant docking a star in my book as a result.

Joy-cons a little awkward? Then this if for you!

Great controller, still keeps all of the motion sensors as in the joy-con controllers. I personally liked the joy-con controllers in the grip it came with but decided to get this as a second controller and now i only use the joy-con controllers when i’m on the go because its less stuff to carry. Shipping came on time and the controller feels great.

The $70 Standard Controller from Nintendo

I like this controller a lot and is a lot more comfortable to use than the grip in most situations. My only problem is the D-Pad as it varies as to how sensitive the D-Pad registers up or down when your pressing left or right from controller to controller (For example, while I play Puyo Puyo Tetris I would “accidentally” quick drop a tetrimino when I just wanted to move to the right). It’s like a gamble since there’s a chance you’ll get a really messed up D-Pad and have to send back or get it “repaired” when this shouldn’t be an issue in the first place for a $70 controller. It can also work as a PC controller too if that interests you and are willing to pay $70 for it.

My new favorite controller

The joy con that come with the Switch are good but for most things at home the pro controller is the way to go! It fits so well in the hands and is very comfortable to use. The buttons are larger as well. This might be the perfect controller.Yes the price is a bit higher than the one or PS4 controllers but there is additional technology inside for amiibo (NFC) reading and gyroscope tech. However the battery life alone is worth it. 40 hours!

Perfect Switch controller.

This controller is godlike.Perfect for Zelda. Buttons are nice and clicky. Great battery life. Uses USB-C which is awesome. Easily top 3 controllers of all time in my opinion, there is literally nothing I dont like about it. Its hard to go back to the tablet unless you really want that portability.

It has some heft to it which I like. It doesn’t feel cheap

It has some heft to it which I like. It doesn’t feel cheap. The buttons and controllers are familiar feeling. I am not 100% sure that I like the location of the d-pad yet.

Nice controller but too expensive

The Pro Controller is a nice gaming controller but about $10-$20 to expensive. I like using this over the Joy-Con remotes and have found the controller to be precise, comfortable, and easy to use. I’m just not sure why Nintendo is charging so much for this controller. I spent less on similar Wii U controller. For families to really adopt the Switch platform, I think Nintendo needs to get the price down by the holiday season.

A must purchase

Excellent controller. When compared to the joy-con grip that is included with the Switch, this is far superior.

Great controller

Amazing feel in hand. A bit heavy than a ps4 controller, but definitely not too heavy at all. Works like a charm.

Could not play without it.

Fits my hands perfectly. Really simular to the xbox controller.layout of the buttons are great for me.very comfortable in my large hands.

My one criticism of the Switch would be the undersized controler. This solves that problem.

works great

works great

This controller is amazing!

OK, so it has a price tag of $69.99 which is $10.00 abo e the average price of say a basic Xbox One or PS4 controller.
