Excellent life vest for kayakers!
I tried lots of different life vests but this one is by far the best for kayaking.I love the mesh part in the back, you don’t even notice you are wearing the vest while paddling. Other vests feel bulky and push you forward while sitting… this one does not!!The arm holes are so big, nothing bothers you while paddling…. and nothing rubs against your arm pits.The vest came with the whistle which is attached to a thin cord inside the pocket, so you can either leave it there or take it out and clip it to the pocket from the outside. The square plastic thing is to attach knives or other gadgets.I’m normally a size L in t-shirts/ sweatshirts so I ordered the Adult M/L which fits perfectly.There is only one thing I would like to point out: In the picture the vest looks more brownish w/ orange but it really is a dark grey w/ orange.5 stars from me for this great life vest for kayak/ paddle enthusiasts.
best kayaking vest
Me and my husband are avid kayakers and this was the most comfortable vest we’ve tried! Built for a comfortable ride with the back of the vest being up enough not to interfere with the seat of the kayak and arm openings wide enough for comfortable paddling. We forget we even have them on.
It floats me!
Ordered June 19th, 2015 for kayaking. Works great! Good material. Comfy fit. Looks good. I forget I have it on. I am a 6’1, 215lb male. I ordered the XL/XXL size. Paid $45.
NOT for Short-Waisted People With a High-Back Kayak Seat
This is a really really nice life vest. Everything the other reviewers say about it is true–it is the most comfortable of all the (many) life vests I tried on (I tried on many higher end ones too, such as the Astral V-Eight and the MTI Sentry). The arm holes are huge, the outside of the best is soft (not a scratchy/net-ish feel), and it is extremely comfortable. And yes, “you forget you have it on.” HOWEVER: I very sadly had to return it and purchase the Astral V-Eight instead, because THE BACK WAS NOT HIGH ENOUGH. I am 4 ft. 10 in. tall, am short-waisted, and have a kayak with a high seat back. The seat in the kayak pushed this vest right up into my face. I was not willing to make the kayak backrest lower just in order to deal the life vest. So I had to google “high back kayak life vest” and purchase one of those instead. If you don’t have this issue, do indeed buy the Onyx.

This review is strictly based on fit and style, NOT function. I have yet to use it in a kayak, but was so satisfied by how it feels I had to post some pictures. I loved this life vest from the second I took it out of the box. All aspects of the vest are adjustable and within minutes, it fit so comfortably! This life vest hugs my body perfectly and is so darn simplistic, I love it! The netting on the lower back will allow for air flow on those hot summer days. Most of all, I like the zippered pocket on the front that contained an orange whistle (that I hope I don’t have to use). I am excited to try this vest out on the water!(Size XS/S Height 5’7”)
Great life jacket with adjustable sizing!
Very happy with this life jacket. Purchased for use with my kayak. I am 5’6” and weigh about 140 pounds. I purchased a medium and was somewhat worried given my further review of others accounts. However, I was relieved this vest is highly adjustible. I was able to sinch it right down to my size. While I probably could have gone with a smaller size, I think this was the better option so others could use the jacket as well. I did see this same vest at Dick’s for considerably more money. At the Amazon price, I feel it’s a high quality life jacket which will serve me well for years! Happy customer!
PERFECTION
I’ve been looking for the right life vest for when I go kayaking. Having been through 3 different styles and not liking them, I finally took a chance on the Onyx MoveVent. It was so comfortable!!! Unlike the others, it didn’t feel bulky when sitting in the kayak. I love the fit and the look. I’m a 5’8, 170 lbs (whatever…no shame) female and the M/L fits perfectly. It goes more on chest size than weight anyway. If you are bustier lady, it may not hurt to go up a size. However, the M/L goes up to a 44” chest size. I would highly recommend.

Absolutely Love this LifeVest! My husband has the Orange and I have the Aqua. We went to a lot of places trying on different vests found this one was our favorite. And we bought them off Amazon cause they had the best price, of course! Would highly recommend.It came with a sizing card attached on the tag, so if you need to know details- XS/S (28”-36”) M/L (36”-44”) X/2XL (44”-56”)

I wanted a life jacket that will float me in case I get knocked out or I am unable to stay afloat. This life jacket is more about giving the person lot of room for arm movements.

Great vest- comfy and lots of ventilation. I used this on a 20 mile overnight camping trip on the st croix river a couple of weeks ago, and it worked great.
