Product Reviews

Not as warm as I would have liked

I really wanted an acoustic-electric resonator, and as the Swamp Stomper was out of stock, I decided to give this a try. I was somewhat disappointed. The quality was OK (did not expect very much at this price), but not great (a few of the frets had somewhat sharp edges and the finish was kind of … blah). It was the sound however that was quite disappointing to me. It sounded cold and tiny (not warm and somewhat lifeless). I own several resonators in this price range (from Regal and Johnson), and had a chance to play some more expensive ones as well (National), so I know what a resonator is supposed to sound like. (To me, this Oscar Schmidt resonator sounded marginally better than a plastic toy). The sound was considerably better when amped, but when playing acoustic, this OR6CE was the worst of the 3 (comparing only with Regal and Johnson, as it’s not really fair to compare it with a National). Before you buy this guitar, I would recommend you try one out at a local shop and compare it side by side with other resonators. I returned mine to Amazon within a few days and had to pay for the return shipping, as the sound of the guitar was not really Amazon’s fault.

Four Stars

Good little guitar-my 3rd Oscar Schmidt-for the price you can’t beat it!

Better than some, worse than many, QC isn’t great…

It’s a good beginner resonator. I’ve been playing guitar for about 15 years. Mainly electric. This guitar plays pretty well, I think it sounds better acoustic than it does mic’d. It’s pretty sterile plugged in. Could use a new pickup. It can get loud played acoustic which is kind of nice. Not incredibly warm sounding. The description on the website says it’s made of mahogany, maybe, but it’s like 14” mahogany plywood. In comparison to other more expensive resonators it’s not amazing acoustic or mic’d, but for a cheap beginner reso it’s better that others I’ve seen. Intonation was right on and the actions wasn’t too high. The main issue with the guitar is the neck. The fret board is straight and plays fine, but the back of the neck has wobbles in it. I did my best to capture them in a picture.

Five Stars

The Oscar Schmidt OR6CE is just what I needed, not to much twang.

Nice tone, action good for slide

Bought for my dad - played it last weekend. Nice tone, action good for slide…..decent weapon for you Robert Johnson fans.

Five Stars

It was a very impressive guitar for the money.

Excellent quality for the price

This Resonator is more than I expected. For the price range it is well built and has a beautiful sound. It arrived days before I expected. The size is a bit small, however, that makes it a gruitar to use in the campground dutring the summer.

Good starter guitar

Easy to play, Sound good for the price-point. Sounds good on the amp as well. I like it. It does have one off kilter knob (volume) but still works fine.
