Product Reviews

Highly Recommend!

Excellent build quality, ergonomically feels good, picture quality is mind blowing, features are amazing, superb in low light (for a sensor of its size), Sound Quality is Fabulous, and so easy to use and understand this camcorder. Definitely better than all 4K cameras available for under $3500 right now. Great for Independent Filmmaking, Weddings, Events, Run and Gun work.

May be the best hobbyist/starter camera available

I used this camera to record church services before upgrading to a Sony FS7, and it did a fine job. I don’t personally think there’s another camera in this price range with this massive feature set with dual XLR inputs, selectable phantom/mic/line levels on inputs, good zoom ability, focus peaking, dual recording, 60p UHD and even 30p DCI, and really smooth motion stabilization. In fact, I use this as a secondary HD camera still. For the cons: The low light performance is not good, so I don’t recommend it for that. It’s great for outdoor shots and slow mo though. I used it indoors, partially lit, and the proper exposure required a 27 db gain even though this lens has an f1.8 aperture. I recommend setting the max gain level to around 12 db, 9 db if you can, to limit noise. The lens is not parafocal, not interchangable, and the best recording format is H.264 with a decent bitrate depending on which resolution you shoot in. The FHD 24p H.264 offers the best picture with intraframe at 200Mbps. I would typically shoot at 24p 4K UHD to reframe, and that bitrate is 100Mbps, with no intraframe, so the video is definitely not as clean. It’s not bad though, can be cleaned up pretty nicely with noise reducers like Red Giant’s denoiser if you have 8 hours to wait for post processing.

awesome if used correctly

I am the owner of a video production company. We have been shooting strictly in 4K for about a year now. Mostly on GH4s. I’ll be the first to admit, this camera does not deliver the same pretty picture that the GH4 does. With box settings, the footage does not match well to GH4 either. But that is not why we have this camera. We have multiple GH4s for times that we need multiple angles of the same subject. We do not need to perfectly match this cam to our A cams. We use the HC1000 when we need a run&gun cam. We use it for ENG situations. Mostly sporting events. What this camera is capably of at it’s price, is pretty incredible. 60p 4K, zoom, ND filters, all professional settings, solid audio, great autofocus, and the image stabilization is INCREDIBLE! There are many times we have no other choice but to shoot handheld with this cam, and with a steady operator, you will be amazed at how fluid your shots can be. We’ve also done a lot of testing and with our setting, we can cut from a GH4 interview shot to HCX b-roll without any jarring image differences. THE FOOTAGE IS A LITTLE NOISY. But that is something we accept with a cam at this pricepoint. As long as you keep that in mind while filming, you can minimize the noise. Also, when shooting low-lit scenes or any other scenario that might cause noise, throw the camera completely out of focus and record a few seconds, so that in post, you have a good clip to capture a good noise-print from and use a removal tool such as neat video. Do this and you might be very pleased with what you get. We’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I love this camera for what it is.

NOT quite what I was HOPING for….

First of all, I have been using Panasonic video cameras in some professional capacity for over 15 years. I absolutely LOVE them. This is the first offering from Panasonic I have been truly disappointed in. There are two aspects I look for in any camera which are most important: image quality and versatility. This camera has a small image sensor and while the image quality isn’t poor, it’s nothing to write home about (what’s the use of popping for 4k @ 60fps if the image is already limited at the image sensor, huh?) Doesn’t make any sense. I guess it all depends on what your standards are and what you are accustomed to. For those who don’t know better or have a reference of comparison, it probably doesn’t make a difference: you are bound to be thrilled by the image this camera creates. For the rest of us…all I can say is the output from a GH5 at HALF the price at only 4K 30p blows it away with a very noticeable difference. As far as versatility…I found I was really spoiled by the semi-pro features of my old HCM-150. WTH, NO waveform monitor on this camera? The histogram is a JOKE and there are bare minimum control options for fine tuning the image output. It really feels like they tore apart a cheapie 4K consumer palm-cam and inserted the components into a bigger body housing. Boo, HISS Panasonic. You’re BETTER than that! Look, videographers! 4K @ 60 fps…shiney, pretty! YAWN!The build feels solid enough altho there was a constant nagging feeling in my gut because I KNOW it is high-impact resistant PLASTIC. Once again, my older HCM’s spoiled me at about the same price point…approx $3000 for a solid MAGNESIUM body made in JAPAN is now the same price for an EXTRUDED PLASTIC housing made in China? E tu, Panasonic…say it isn’t so?After two weeks I returned this camera for a full refund. I’ll wait for the new AG DVX200 which is due out any week now. If you love Panasonic and are serious about the quality of your video, perhaps you should consider doing the same.

Awesome

Best video camera ever. Well besides the Red which costs about $30,000. This does the job. Many manual settings to take advantage of.

Have shot about an hour with the cam so far. On the go handheld IA works very well. Will be doing some stAtionary manual shooting to check out all of the features. Very happy to have histogram reference as I use it on my Canon 60D Pro camera as well. Great to be able to watch brilliant 4K!!!

Fantastic!

Camera is great. Use it every week in church. HDMI connector is perfect for live display on lobby tvs. Glad we bought this.

The Panasonic HC-X1000 is a feature laden prosumer video camera which is capable of capturing 4K video. After several outings with the camera I’ve noticed that the camera suffers form a lack of dynamic range.

Very easy to use with very little need to study the …

This totally meets my expectations for an affordable 4K camera. Very easy to use with very little need to study the users manual.

Noiseless secret sauce!

An awesome camera that has some pro features not normally found in similar cameras in this price range.

Mis advertised.

Camera is nice. But it doesn’t have the live output streaming like the seller said it did. Returned it and got a different one.

Waited all of this time just to get a defective unit. LCD SCREEN DOES NOT WORK!!I HAVE A SCHEDULED SHOOT SATURDAY!!!! THANKS ALOT!

Poor low light.

A very corporate video image, and poor low light performance. The DVX200 was a better fit for documentary filmmaking, but ENG and corp should have no problems.
