Out of the box, the edger attachment worked well and installed easily with my power head. The problem, as others have noted, is when it comes time to change the blade. I carefully read and followed the instructions. The bolt that holds the blade on is reverse thread, meaning you turn the nut clockwise to loosen it. The problem is that there is no “shaft lock”, so the instructions tell you to insert a screwdriver into a slot that “holds the blade in place” while you remove the bolt. Unfortunately, as others have noted, the material that your screwdriver will brace against to hold the blade is extremely weak and crumbles under any kind of pressure. I can clamp the blade in a vice to remove the nut, but now that the material around the base of the blade has crumbled and fallen out, there are exposed openings around the spindle that allow it to quickly fill up with grass clippings, dirt, etc.I’ve had the edger for about 6 months, and would have given it 5 stars … until it came time to change the blade. Now I am looking for a new edger and I would not recommend this edger to anyone.
I’m using this Poulan PP1000E edger attachment with a Troy-Bilt 25cc powerhead. If your powerhead takes TrimmerPlus attachments, this one will work for you. I’m not terribly impressed with the powerhead, but the edger did it’s job and worked really well. It seems to be built just as well as the more expensive edger attachments available in the local big box stores.I started out by moving forwards (walking right to left if you’re facing the grass from the street) and pushing the edger - letting the blade chop “down” with the rotation) but I found that for the really thick stuff it worked a little better for me to walk backwards (walking left to right as you face the grass) and pull the edger towards me, so the edger would be cutting on the upward part of the rotation. Started off with the wheel in the minimum depth, then made a second pass at maximum depth to clean things up. The lawn hasn’t been edged in a couple years, but it looks really great now; I can’t even imagine trying to edge it all by hand (over 120 linear feet).
I paired this with my GreenWorks 21142 10Amp 18-Inch Corded String Trimmer and it works great. I was able to edge the sidewalks and driveway in 1⁄4 the time as compared to just using my string trimmer alone. The Greenworks is more than powerful enough at 10 amps to turn this device. The results were as good or better than before with a whole lot less effort. Which is particularly helpful in our Texas heat. I should have done this 30 years ago.
Edging is easy and looks like professional landscaping. That is the good part, now the bad. The blade weras down in less than two yeras of average (almost weekly) use. To replace the blade is next to impossible. You need a special notched tool that I cannot find anywhere. Using a regular screwdriver tears the metal casing and still unable to loosen the bolt that holds the blade in place. My only options are to buy a new atachment or take it in to a pwere equipment shop and hope they have the right blade and tools.
Works great so far. I used it for 2 hrs first time out of the box and no hiccups. I m 6’ tall and the lenfgt of the shaft is such that I have to stoop over a little to use it and after awhile it tends to get to you.It is to bad they didn’t have a short extension you could put in between, I realize not everyone is not the same height but I just want to point out where you would be standing when using this tool. I imagine if you are 5’9” it might be just right? I m using this on a Troy Bilt TB32 EC and works great
So I purchased this on the hope that it would fit my new Kobalt 80volt weedeater that I purchased from Lowe’s. Very happy to say that yes it fits and works great. It does give the battery a workout though. I should be getting my second battery soon and then shouldn’t have any issues.
I haven’t used this yet…BUT…shipping, design, the hanger attachment…very impressed. I did my research and purchased this for my Husqvarna weed whacker…this is the attachment recommended by Husqvarna…not the one that fooled me at first…and judging from buyer comments, fooled a lot of folks. I’ll update after I use it. For now…very happy.
Works great until you have to change the blade, then the metal gear housing just crumbles.
Works great for use in my yard.
Attached it to my Husky 128LD in no time and used it once on some pretty heavily over grown driveway, walk and patio.
awesome attachment. need to get used to edging. saved me from tossing my husqvarna trimmer away.
Fantastic edger when paired with the 28cc Poulan Pro! This thing has LOADS of power and can easily chew through the edging needs without an issue.
It worked great until I needed to change the blade 2 years later. The manual instructs you to stick a small screwdriver into the shaft housing to keep the shaft from rotating…
Just what I needed.
Works great
Seems to do the job!
Bought this along with the Poulan Pro Trimmer. I’ve only used it once, but it did a fantastic job. Much sturdier that I expected an add-on attachment to be.
