Package Type:Standard Packaging The RAM-B-149Z-GA20U consists of a zinc coated U-bolt base, double socket arm, diamond adapter base and custom high strength composite cradle for the Garmin Rino. Designed into the mount is a 1” diameter patented rubber ball and socket system with adjustment points at the base and cradle. With a twist of the arm knob, you can move the Garmin Rino motorcycle mount to your optimum viewing position. Included in this package is hardware that will accommodate rails from 0.50” to 1.25” in diameter. This mount is designed to hold the following devices: Garmin Rino 520, Garmin Rino 520HCx, Garmin Rino 530, and Garmin Rino 530HCx.
I used this on my dirt bike in addition to the universal spring mount that RAM makes. Holds everything super well and is made of sturdy materials. It held my Samsung phone easily and stayed put even when I rode through some woods and even when I dropped it.
Love it! Mounts solid and you don’t have to crank down on the wing-nut style clamp to get a solid position on the top and bottom balls. I’m using this to hold a Garmin 5” GPS in a dedicated RAM cradle on my motorcycle handlebar. It does take a little patience to get the correct angles you want because the arm only rotates so much. I found the best method is to put the clamp on the bar but leave it loose and leave both balls loose such that all three pivot points move. Position whatever you have mounted like you want it and note the position of the handlebar clamp. Tighten this in that position, then clamp the arm. I think it could be improved if there were four slots at 90 degree angles on the ball ends instead of just two at 180 degrees. Otherwise, I really like this and have ordered another with an X-mount for my cell phone.
The bike is a hybrid mount road bike that I use for a 6 mile (each way 5 day a week commute). I use the phone as a speaker for music and GPS when needed. The mount has three types of prongs that re of different length depending on the size of your device. The mount is originally made for a motorcycle but the base is for a bicycle. I use the mount with my casemate case and it fits snuggley. I bought it from Amazon for $41.27, which I think is a steal considering that I could fit all types of device on believe it will last at least two to three years with regular use based on the strength of the material. You can easily take the mount and the arm off the bike so that it wont be easily stolen and you have to screw the based on to your bike.If you do happen to buy one the instructions are not very clear, but the screws go through the bottom of the holder and the nuts though the top.Well worth the money in my opinion. You can even buy other bases that will go in your car or on other bikes or other areas.
I’ll just start by saying I originally had my doubts on this mount working for my purpose (holding a smart phone in an aquabox)… basically had the return labels printed off.The second I took this out of the box I knew it was going to do everything I’d ever want it to do.Easily holds my smartphone, GoPro, and small child (ok, that’s a slight exageration) in place on my motorcycle. I’ve been over small jumps, done several ‘unsafe starts’, and this thing has not moved the slightest bit.Pros:-Solid-Looks good-Easily to install/move-Great mounting system, VERY easy to mount anything with them.Cons:-My only con is wishing I would have got a shorter arm… but I’ll be investing in more RAM mount accesories in the future.
Bought this along with the universal finger grip holder to hold my cell phone (G2 smartphone) onto my 1” handlebars so that I can use the phone’s GPS and the Raindar app while driving. Included with the mount was an extra u-bolt for 1 1⁄2” bars too.Together they hold the phone rock solid yet the phone is easy to remove when I stop. The universal finger grip holder also gives me a lot of flexibility for phone placement so that I can put it in the cradle in a manner that doesn’t interfere with the power cord – very useful.Following the advice of somebody else here, I put a couple of layers of plastic tape on the bars before I installed the mount so as to avoid scratching the bars when I cranked down on the lock nuts. I would recommend you do the same as the mount bolts on very tightly.I now also have a ball-mount drink holder that I use on long interstate drives – works well too.All-in-all, a very nice mount and I would recommend it to all.
Paired with the “RAM Mounting Systems RAM-HOL-UN4U Universal Finger Grip Holder”, this holds my phone very securely on my mountain bike. Without fear of losing my smartphone, I bike over curbs, on gravel, down city staircases, as well my usual road commute. The two ball joints, and easy to adjust handle don’t slip, and let me very quickly change positions so my phone can be lower and out-front of my handlebars, or higher and straight above them.If you were only road-biker who cared about every gram this would probably be overkill, but I love it.PS - Ingress has got me biking further than ever!(edited to remove the Ingress URL)
I got this holder as a mount for a digital video recorder (DVR) and am very happy with it. It is well made (cast aluminum, no plastic), easy to adjust and very solid. Once the handlebar clamp and wing bolt are tightened, nothing moves - the whole arm stays fixed, no matter what.I attached a 1⁄8” flat aluminum plate to the top ball joint and applied industrial-grade, self-adhesive hook and loop tape on top which holds my DVR safely and allows me to remove it quickly and easily. The one star review by another reviewer who experienced breakage of the lower ball joint is, in my view, the result of either a material defect (issue with the cast) or, more likely, overtightening of the handlebar U-clamp leading to a crack in the cast. The trick is to tighten the U-clamp just enough to prevent the mount from moving.
Easy to integrate with own size accessory plate. Claim: “Superior shock and vibration isolation for electronic”. Well.. mileage varies. The engine still vibrates the electronics way beyond a healthy dose. One inch thick foam sponge and rubber bands was the fix. I was worried that the rubber band wont keep my cellphone in place while riding. With the nearly infinite adjustments options of the mount, it was easy to find a “gravity neutral” position, where rubber band tension only needs to keep phone from moving sideways, rather than up/down holding. Now I can hit answer button for incoming call and pull over to the roadside to talk, rather than have call go to voice mail - all good. A bit pricey accessory, but definitely money well spent.
All good.
good
Excellent mounting system
Fantastic system, highly modular.
Mount works great and gives you lot of adjustability.
The first one I bought worked great. I,bought the second one for,a,friend. Simple design, simple instruction, simple install.
What can I say! All RAM equipment works perfectly. I don’t use any other product for my various holding needs.
If this is anything like my other RAM product, a camera mount, it is built like a tank. The only issue I have with RAM is their products are heavy.
Mounts firm and holds things mounted steady. Using it on a Harley with a lot of vibration, yet it holds firm in place the whole time.
