Great way to direct wire your Drive Cam

8/9/2017 - Update: the cable stopped working. It cuts in and out constantly so I had to just go back to a cord dangling down. It was great when it worked :( Talked to REXING for help but they passed me back to whoever sold me this thing. Now it’s way past the return date.Original review:For months I’ve been driving with a USB cable going down the middle of my windshield. I hate it. So when my dad was hooking some other things up, I thought hey can I direct wire this thing instead?I purchased this kit. We installed it and it’s working great. The only possible con is that the end of the thing is angled instead of straight so we had to do a loop to get it to line up right. Also that block you see in the picture might be hard to hide in the headliner but we managed to fit it.

Does Exactly What It’s Supposed to Do

It’s working out just fine. The only difficulty installing it was contorting myself into the positions needed to install it into the car’s fuse box. It’s been operating flawlessly for over a month now.

Updated Review:I had originally posted that I was sent the wrong item (1.5A vs. 2.0A) power converter and was, understandably, less than enthused. Apparently, Rexing actively peruses their product reviews and was VERY fast to respond to my review (in less than 24 hours) by insisting on replacing my 1.5A unit with the 2.0A unit I’d ordered. They were even kind enough to work with me on the fact that the 1.5A unit would not be restockable since I’d added an inline fuse holder for circuit protection. I have to admit, I am more than exceptionally pleased with the speed in which Rexing contacted me concerning this issue, as well as proactively resolving the issue. I will most definitely recommend Rexing to others and will return when the need arises!April 24, 2017 (original review):I ordered this for my Rexing V1N (with which I am experiencing issues after just 2 days of use) and was very disappointed to receive a 1.5 ampere unit instead of the (pictured) 2 ampere unit. Needless to say, I’m more than remarkably disappointed at not receiving what I paid for. Even the cigarette lighter adapter, that came with my V1N, is 2A - that’s quite a difference in current (draw) between what’s offered and what I received.Given that I took the time to stealthily mount this, I’ll be more than very upset if the unit fails and I have to replace it.

This item is a “must-have” for installing your Rexing dash cam

This item is a “must-have” for installing your Rexing dash cam - makes it so the camera is more covert (there isn’t a cord hanging from the camera to the cigarette lighter) and is easy to install. Ran mine from the cam and routed it down and around the A-pillar to underneath the glove box and tapped into the ignition key-controlled cig lighter. Used Posi-taps to do it to make it minimally invasive (maybe these should be included with the kit?!)

Radio interference with this hard wire kit.

I’ve been having FM radio reception problems with my car and I thought it was due to a poor design of the car or cheap radio parts… I have an appointment to bring the car in at the dealership to be looked at so I disconnected the camera and all the wiring so that everything was back to factory condition. That action alone caused the FM reception to clear up completely and I had no more problem.Reconnecting the wiring instantly introduces static to the FM radio. It’s actually kind of funny. Plug the camera in: static. Unplug the camera: no static, repeat. I left this hard wire kit disconnected and used my Rexing camera with the cigarette plug instead and didn’t have much problem. A spot or two here and there would have some static that seemed to go away if I unplugged the cigarette plug but for the most part it wasn’t an issue.I have this hard wire kit in another car as well that has poor radio reception, now I’m interested in seeing if it’s the cause there as well.This kid needs to be re-manufactured with some kind of shielding or something to prevent interference. I’ll be looking for a different hard wire kit ASAP!

This is a must-have..

Absolutely love this kit..Before I ordered it, I was a bit apprehensive, as I had read reviews that the connector was the wrong way around. Well, it wasn’t in the kit that I received. It seems that listened to some criticism.. The picture on Amazon shows 2 blank wires at the end.. However, in my case, the red wire ended with a molded-on connector WITH a mini fuse. I had also ordered Add-a-fuse Tap kit, but didn’t need it at all). The black wire (ground) had a spade connector (U-shaped connector) attached to it. They could not have made it easier to hook it up. After testing it first and seeing that everything worked (finding an empty fuse socket that only goes hot when the car is started), I hid it in the head liner and A-pillar down to the driver’s side dashboard where my fuse box is (2016 VW Golf). The wire was way too long, so I rolled it up and used a zip tie to the excess cable in the dashboard. All very neat and tidy. This is one sweet setup, and it seems that Rexing has listened to some of the criticisms that customers had..Good job!

Didn’t work, had internal short.

Wouldn’t power my Rexing V1P and after fighting with it for about an hour, I finally figured out why. Hooked up a multimeter and saw 12v+ coming from both ground and vcc(power) pins on the mini-usb connector. So something was shorted out internally AND bypassing the step-down regulator (What’s supposed to convert it to 5v output). I’m just lucky it didn’t damage my camera.I’d strongly advise testing power from this before hooking it up to your camera. I’m just going to order the brand I used to hook up my other Rexing cam in my other car as that one worked fine and at least looks serviceable if I have to fix a short it.

Works perfectly on the V1P (w/ backup cam)

Used this to wire the Rexing V1P (with backup camera). Works perfectly! I just pulled out a 15a fuse (this was used for a glove box power outlet) and plugged this right in.
