Product Reviews

Yes, buy it, you’ll love it!

I’m already a big fan of Roku, so when I saw this, I decided to give it a try. One thing to keep in mind, this one is 720p and 1080p, no 4K. Works for me, all of my TVs are 1080p. It’s small size is great for when we go on trips. All you need is the USB cable as it can draw power from it, no need to bring the power supply. In a hotel room just plug it up, connect to the WiFi, and I have all my Netflix, Hulu, etc. for relaxing in the room at the end of the day. Since it draws power from the TV, it turns on and off with the TV. This is great for when I’m going to bed at night, I just set the sleep timer on the TV, and when the timer turns the TV off, the Roku also turns off. I read reviews stating that it was slow, so I was a little worried, but that is not the case. Yes, since it is powered by the TV, it takes a minute for the Roku to power up and be ready to go. But let’s be realistic, it’s like 30 second or so, not a big deal. Once up and running, works just as well as my other Rokus. It comes with a strip of Velcro so you can attach it to your TV. As with other Roku models, you can control it through an app on your phone, which works via the WiFi, not line of sight. So, you can basically attach it to the back of the TV, plug the included USB cable into the USB port on the TV for power, connect the HDMI cable, and you’re all set. I’m super happy with the Roku Express and should I need another Roku, this is the one I will buy, I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Still an excellent choice all around especially being the cheapest streaming device right now

I ended up buying this from a big box store since it’s still not in stock for Amazon. At first I felt that it was a bit slow, but much faster that the older Roku Streaming Stick it was replacing. I also have a new 2016 Streaming Stick to compare it to, which is still probably twice as fast as the Express. The Express is probably twice as fast as the previous purple Streaming Stick. The remote is IR, so it does need a line of sight to the box, which is very light and tiny and can be mounted on the TV itself. It comes with a foot HDMI cable and longer micro USB cable for power. It can still be powered by the built-in USB port on the TV.The real key I was looking for is speed. I use Playstation Vue for my TV service, and it took probably 30 seconds to load the app on the older purple streaming stick. Navigation was very slow as well. The Express cut these times, but not as good as the newer black streaming stick. Netflix is also a little sluggish in loading the Netflix Home Screen. It’s still a good device for any TV. The remote is a little different in that it’s flatter on the bottom verses the round half circle of the previous Roku remotes. Also, it only has 2.4Ghz Wifi whereas the black streaming stick has dual channel 2.4 & 5Ghz. The $30 price point makes this very affordable to outfit multiple TVs, especially if you’re in my situation of changing from traditional set top box cable TV switching to a streaming provider, in my case PS Vue. In my case, I have moved my black streaming stick to the main living room TV, while I have the Express on a bedroom TV. I will be purchasing another Express for another bedroom TV.

In Love with the Roku

We love our Roku! It has enabled us to cut our cable bill and save money without losing the show’s we love. Best purchase ever!!!

Great Budget Option

I prefer Roku devices over the Chromecast. So, if you are on a really tight budget I would definitely buy this device. If you have an extra $20 buy the Roku Streaming Stick. The main shortcoming of the Roku Express is the remote, uses an IR blaster, which has to be pointed very near exactly at the device.

Satisfied

Very good streaming service easy to set up, alot of channels available

Not worth it, go for a nicer option

Update:After a few months, my unit has developed the WiFi connection issues mentioned by others. It will say there is no internet connection or prompt me to check my connection status, sometimes while continuing to play whatever I was watching (so there clearly is a working connection). If I follow the prompt to check network status 90% of the time it says I have a good connection with a strong signal. The other 10% I have to reconnect to my network. This is all with the router less than three feet away. Useless, much like their customer support.Original Review:Bought it to have a way to primarily watch sports on an extra TV. Depending on the app, the stream varies between irritating quality drops to frequent loading that causes the audio and video to go out of sync with no way to correct it without restarting the stream. Exacerbating the issue is that it often happens right when the stream starts, meaning constant back-and-forth hoping that it won’t happen for once. Some days it just seems like it isn’t possible to watch. All of this is happening with the unit less than 3 feet from the router, with speeds around 55-60Mbps down. No other platform in the house has this level of issues, even if they are farther from the router. On top of that the support options are useless, basically just an article saying check your internet speed. No option to actually talk to anyone after going through the troubleshooter.Beyond that, the unit overall is just slow. There is a lag on every command using the remote, enough so that muscle memory easily will have you doing things faster than the UI can respond. You have to pause for a half-second after every click of the remote, which gets incredibly irritating. In short: Spend a bit more for something better, you get what you pay for. I should have returned it when I had the chance.

A Very Happy Roku Customer

I purchased a TCL Roku Smart tv and was so satisfied with it, I went and purchased a Roku Express 3700 on sale for $29.99. I love that I was able to connect my account to it now having Roku in two rooms now. This is so perfect for company and guests. These 2 Rokus are the best thing I have ever bought. I have come a long way being a baby boomer from a black and white tv at the age of ten to this. What a fantastic age we live in!

Fantastic product.

Fantastic product..easy to navigate menu, initial setup instructions, fun themes for home page. The Roku Express was delivered fast! so many choices to choose from in the array of streaming channels and most are free! Enjoy.

1st order: Roku was used. Previous owners Netflix …

1st order: Roku was used. Previous owners Netflix account was even still active. ..return! 2nd order: Apparently defective wifi card.

Ok

Formatting leaves a lot to be desired and the search sucks but it works.

Works but needs constant ‘rebooting’

It works, it just isn’t wow-ing me. If I use it and watch, say, 2 movies I have to unplug it and let it ‘clear’ itself or it starts buffering like crazy. Which drives me crazy.

Remote delays/issues

Significant delays from pressing the remote buttons to the player reacting. I don’t like the smaller remote (also have a Roku 3 from 7 years ago) as it’s easier to lose and there…

Five Stars

Awesome. Love that the little receiver even sticks to your TV so there aren’t wires everywhere.

Five Stars

Super easy setup. Just connect to your Wi-Fi and you’re good to go!

Three Stars

Good little device! No Amazon app was disappointing. But overall not bad for the price.

Refurbished and works great

Works as promised

Five Stars

Works great!

Miss The Boat

So glad that Roku came out with this version. It’s a welcome aid for those TVs that still have the RCA composite connections.
