I’ve been plagued with the dead battery issue many others have had. In a nutshell, the internal lithium battery slowly discharges over time, If it gets below 1.4 volts, the glasses will refuse to charge. I bought 4 pairs less than a year ago. They sat in a box until I found time to play. Unfortunately, play time was ruined, because they were completely dead. I checked Amazon reviews, and sure enough, many others are having the same issue. Being an avid electronics geek/modder, I decided to put some troubleshooting time in, save my glasses and hopefully many others from the landfill! Please look for my uploaded images (scroll down to the bottom of this review or “customer images”) for instructions. 8 total images. To jump start:Requires disassembly. Tools required: a NEW 1.5v Alkaline battery (AA,C ,or D), 2 jumper wires or alligator clip jumpers, 2 safety pins or sewing pins/needles. Small Philips “eyeglasses” screwdriver. A small tool to push out the hinge pin. USB charging cable. TIME NEEDED: About 5 minutes per pair.1. Disassemble according to pictures. you’ll need to access the solder joints on the battery itself.2. Assemble jump start battery, wires, and pins according to pictures.3. Plug glasses into a USB charger or computer that can charge them. You should see a red LED light flash once on the glasses, this indicates you have power, but they are not accepting a charge.4. BEING ABSOLUTELY SURE you match + for +, and - for -, see picture for where to place jumper pins on battery. You’ll need to push the pins through the Kapton tape to make connection with the solder joints underneath. Hold the jumpers there for about 3-5 seconds. Timing is not critical here. (This step brings the actual lithium cell over the PCM board 1.4v no-charge threshold. Bad design if you ask me, but whatever. Battery PCM design probably went to the lowest cost Chinese manufacturer. Google “PCM battery circuit” if you want the gritty details.)5. The glasses should start charging at this point. Please note, the red LED on the glasses will NOT light at this step. However, leave them plugged into the USB charger for around 30 seconds to let them charge a bit. After 30 seconds, unplug your USB charger, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. If the LED on the glasses lights red, and stays on, congratulations!!!! You’ve fixed your glasses and they are charging! Reassemble the glasses.6. Let them charge all the way till the LED light on the glasses turn themselves off. I think it takes a few hours to charge…Charge your glasses occasionally, to keep this from happening again. On a side note, I believe the battery’s built in PCM module is the issue with these. You can find new lithium batteries with PCM modules on Ebay or Alibaba if you are inclined to find and solder in new replacements. The dimensions of the OEM battery are 4mm x 15mm x 20mm, 3.7v, 90mah, if you try to go find a suitable replacement. The mah rating does NOT need to match the OEM battery, it just needs to physically fit.If this review helped you, upvote it so more people can be helped when their glasses die, and pay forward the favor by helping someone else some day!
These glasses get a 5. They work seamlessly with my Benq projector. They are comfortable, easy to use, and of course, the price rocks. I’ve owned several different glasses, far more expensive that were much lower quality than these glasses. I plan on buying more in the future.Updated Review:The 4 I originally purchased, all died before the year mark. They no longer charge. Contrary to previous statement, I will not be buying these again.
I’m leaving this review to compare the SainSonic SSZ-200DLB with the Ultra-Clear HD DLP LINK 3D Glasses. I’m using them with an Acer H5380BD Projector on a 115” diagonal screen. They both work great! Below I will list, what I think, are some pros and cons of each. I needed three pairs so I thought it would be good to try two different brands. I read good reviews on both and what I read was accurate.Ultra-Clear HD DLP LINK 3DPros:Good image and colorFit very wellCharged up very quicklyThey sync automaticallyHave a nice rubberized finishCons:Make the image sightly darker than SainsonicUSB port cover is tricky to openSainSonic SSZ-200DLBPros:Very good image and colorsLightweightCons:Need to swap left and right syncingThey are a little long and may stick out behind your head and move when you lean your head back in your seatThey are both nice glasses, the 3D is great on both. I personally like the rubberized finish on the Ultra-Clears. Plus the fact that they sync automatically, even when you leave the room then come back. The SainSonics don’t darken the image as much but also don’t sync automatically, which may be an issue for children or technically challenged. Its easy to swap left for right, one quick button press, only that some viewers may not spot the difference. The field of view on the SainSonics is slightly larger than the UCs, but its the difference between seeing four feet on either side of the screen vs eight feet on either side. None of my screen gets cut off with either pair. I have not had them long enough to see which one holds a charge longer but I don’t foresee that as being a problem if I just keep them charged on a regular basis. And its recommended to charge them between long periods of storage.I’m watching content on a PS3 for 3D Blu-Rays and Netflix. If you have Netflix, watch “Art of Flight”, a good film in 2D made even more immersive in 3D. Also, my cable company offers a handful of 3D movies on HBO On-Demand.For children and guests I recommend Ultra-Clear as they are smaller and simpler to use. If, on the other hand, your projector isn’t super bright, I’d go with The SainSonics.
Nowhere in the manual did they mention that you had to keep them constantly charged. After not using for a few months they will not take a charge. 3 pairs of glasses used maybe 4 times now complete garbage. Don’t buy! If you do buy make sure you keep them charged the batteries go completely dead if they discharge beyond a certain point
Bought a 4 pack and 1 pair has a dead right side lens out of the box. I would buy a few extra pair just in case. They don’t seem to have any kind of warranty.
Wrong ones did not know there was 2 types and I ordered wrong ones
Work Great, Cheaper then factory units!
The 3D works, but frames are small to wear over my prescription glasses it’s my fault in a way as I didn’t check the glasses measurements
Very beautiful and functional. As pictures were magnificent, I recommended, a very attentive salesperson.
They are a bit uncomfortable, but they work.
I am using these with a Benq W1070 1080p projector. At least in the short term (5 or 6 movies) they seem to work great.
poor design. Nose clip doesn’t stay on. Power button too small to find in the dark. Easier to turn button on and off with a pen or similar object.
After one year stop working, I think is the battery
comments powered by DisqusWorking great so far, I did create a monthly reminder to charge them though so I can make sure they do not die. I purchased them with the Benq model projector and no issues at all.
