Works well as a PC monitor if you can stand the pixel response

I bought this TV as a computer monitor. I had been using a Westinghouse LVM-37W3 for years as a monitor but it was getting tired and I wanted higher resolution. I had been looking for some time but it seems that 2015 is finally when 4k TVs, at least from Samsung and Sony, can be used fully at PC monitors with full 4k 60hz 4:4:4 support. I was worried about pixel response and input lag, neither of which seemed to be a problem on the 37W3, when deciding to go with either a TV or a PC monitor, but there was no way I could go back to the small size of a PC monitor so I took the plunge on the JU6500.I’m happy to report that input lag is not an issue, with it being slightly faster than the 37W3 in game mode and similar in PC mode. I just leave it in PC mode. Pixel response is not as good with certain colors - bright colors are fine but grey and black transitions have a lot of blur. Based on reviews other Samsungs like the JU7500 seem to offer better pixel response but I could not justify spending twice as much for that. Because of the pixel response I can’t see myself keeping this as long as I kept the 37W3 but it is good enough and cheap enough to last me a couple years until better displays are available.Apart from the TV itself I have no regrets about going 4k; Windows 10 handles the scaling well though some programs (I’m looking at you, Steam) still don’t scale well. Games play fine on a single 980 - I’ve been playing a lot of DCS World where the high resolution is a real advantage - so I don’t see a reason to stick with 1080p if your are buying a new display.

Minus 1 star for lame, un-intuitive menus

Really happy with this TV. I am using as a PC monitor with 4k@60HZ and Chroma 4:4:4. Using on PC with Intel 3770k, and gtx970. Picture looks fantastic, and text is ultra sharp once you enable chroma 4:4:4. I wouldn’t recommend this tv as monitor unless you enable 4:4:4. I wouldn’t say the text is “fuzzy” but it isn’t crisp either and quickly causes eye strain for me anyway. but after 4:4:4, it was perfect: super sharp. One caveat, the setting for UHD color and the renaming of the input (both required for 4:4:4@60hz) are not found intuitively. They are buried in advanced menus for UHD color, and renaming requires the remote and navigating to the input and holding the enter key for several seconds while you wait for a sub menu to pop up. Very un-intuitive for a TV. there should just be a setting for renaming inputs. For those looking to use this as a monitor, I do have one issue with using as a PC monitor and that is that the icons are small, too small, but that really isn’t any fault of the TV. it;s a 4k resolution on a 40 inch screen… of course the icons are going to be small. This can be fixed without altering the resolution by using the built in to Windows default scaling settings and changing them from 100% to “medium-125%”. this makes the icons the ‘correct’ size (for me anyway) and still lets me revel in the 4k glory for the rest of my stuff; (movies games). You might also have read other sites reviews knocking this TV for its lack of judder compensation and no 24P mode. I will be honest, I am not one of those people that notices that stuff. I know it is a real thing, and many people can not only see it, but are annoyed beyond belief about it… I am just not one of those people. I never could see the color wheel effect and blurring of images on the old DLP projection TV’s, and I can’t see the 3:2 pulldown/24p judder issues on this tv either.

Love It.

Took three tries to get one delivered without damage (not Amazon’s fault) but now that we have one that works, its great. Even though people say that there is not a lot of UHD content out there yet, we see a real picture quality difference with this when compared to the regular HD sets we already have.

YES! LOOK AT THAT PICTURE!!!!

WOW!!!!!!! This picture on this is AMAZING. The blacks are almost totally black, the whites are brilliant, the sound is good, it’s a FABULOUS TV. If you’re wondering whether to upgrade to UHD 4K, do it. Though there aren’t a lot of sources yet broadcasting in 4K, the picture is still wonderful. When more and more providers start broadcasting in 4K, this will be an amazing experience. You just cannot see any pixels when you put your face up close to the screen. There is a model that’s about 400 dollars more than the 6500; the Samsung JU7100, and if you want 3D, a smart remote and twice the motion rating, then maybe you’ll want to get it, but, if those things aren’t important to you (especially the 3D) then save the hundreds of dollars and go for this one. I watch a lot of sports and this handles things just fine. I cannot imagine any better picture quality with the 7100 model but perhaps it does have the edge with the extra cost; I cannot say….the 6500 model is just incredible. Up to you. I love this TV. What an incredible picture. It’s worth every penny. Every TV I own is a Samsung and I have to say, the quality keeps on coming. Pull the trigger on this. A beautiful TV. This is a review of the 40 inch, in case you’re wondering….and it does come in bigger sizes which I would assume are just as jaw dropping brilliant. Oh, I use the DYNAMIC setting and have turned some friends on to my “recipe” for great picture quality: Backlight 19, Contrast 95, Brightness 30-35, Sharpness 90, Color 50, Tint 50. I just can’t see turning brightness up any more than that since of all the settings, the Brightness tends to wash out the depth and brilliance of the picture. Oh, and the side angle viewing of this TV, though not perfect, is pretty darn good…just maybe a 15-20% reduction in quality, if that…very good angle viewing. This is TV built for the future with the UHD 4K….get it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Five Stars

This is an amazing TV.

VERY disappointed. and will not buy refurbished again

This is the first time I purchased a “refurbished” item: The volume was stuck on low & there was a line running thru the middle of the screen constantly.

Junk remote makes TV useless.

This TV is slow to respond. The smart hub is not intuitive. and most important, I cannot get a Samsung remote to last more than a few months with this TV.

Worth every penny.

Great picture. Sound isn’t as bad as other people claim either. Well worth the money if you don’t need a massive television.

I don’t recommend this TV

I bought this TV on March of 2016, it just recently died on July of 2017. I barely used it and it didn’t even last 2 years. I don’t recommend this TV.

Turn it on and the screen on the inside is all cracked looks like a broken computer board

Bought an open box one from amazon prime. 50$ off because it has a scratch on the back. Open the box crack on side, stand looks ten years old.

love it!

the resolution is sick! love it!

Five Stars

Great product. Love it.

Great TV for the price, supports all UHD/HDR formats that the xbox one S supports

According to my xbox one s this supports all the 4k/HDR formats that the new xbox one has. You have to enable UHD color in the menu, and it can only be done on HDMI port 1.

Awesome picture

Super TV.
