SanDisk upgraded their Extreme SD card. The new card is labeled 60MB/s and now has the UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3) speed designation. The U3 means it can sustain at least 30 MB/s write speed for recording 4K2K video.Previously the Extreme was labeled 45MB/s (read and write). The new Extreme is advertised as 60MB/s read and 40MB/s write. One might wonder about the new card’s downgraded write speed, but it is faster than advertised.I tested the new SanDisk Extreme 32GB SDHC 60MB/s card using 7 different USB 3.0 card readers. Every one exceeded 75 MB/s read and reached 55MB/s write (range was 54.8-55.3MB/s across all readers with CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 Sequential 1GB random test data, best of 5 passes). The improved write speed makes the Extreme almost as fast as the Extreme Plus measured at 60MB/s write speed but short of the Plus’ 95MB/s highest read speed.Compare this with the previous generation Extreme 45MB/s, which tested between 44-47MB/s read and 41-43MB/s write.I recommended the previous version of the SanDisk Extreme quite often in the past. It was a good value considering one could spend twice as much for the Extreme Pro that probably wouldn’t be much faster in most digital cameras. But more cameras today support UHS-I and can actually write above 70MB/s. For those cameras faster cards (Extreme Pro) can make a difference. With the Extreme getting a speed boost, it further increases its value and remains a great choice for many cameras.

Great SD card for DSLR Enthusiasts

Great memory for DSLR cameras, I bought this one because of previous experiences with SanDisk products and this one is no different.As other reviewers have said this little beast is much faster than what it’s advertised. Using CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 and a Kingston G4 USB 3.0 UHS-II rated card reader it shows 73.75MB/s reads and 54.75MB/s writes (sequential).It is also much better than the Kingston SD10V/16GB 46 that it replaced, that one measured 46MB/s reads and 11MB/s writes (sequential).My Nikon D5300 in burst mode fills its buffer after a couple of shots (14bit RAW). With the SanDisk Extreme it takes about 2-3 of seconds to flush its the buffer, while the old card could take up to 20 seconds before I was able to shoot again.In conclusion I feel very happy with the purchase. I can take more photos in burst mode, transfers to the PC are much faster and for the price is a steal.

Ideal card at a ideal price (with above average performance)

Sandisk is one of the most trusted brand for SD cards and thats why I decided to go with Sandisk (as I have been doing for last decade !!!).I bought a couple of these cards as a backup for the 90MB/s cards I have so that I donâ€™t run in to problem when I cannot backup the photos regularly.At 60MB/s speed, its ideal for normal shooting (not recommended for continuous shooting because the camera will freeze after 7-8 shots because of limited writing speed. Again, its not a bad accessory to have in bag when you are exhausted of space in your primary high-speed, high-capacity cards. The card has a U3 rating which is ideal for video shooting.I would highly recommend this for smaller cameras but not if you use full frame DSLR and want to take continuous shots.

SanDisk cards are the best one can buy!

There are simply no better memory cards than SanDisk. I use these commercially and depend on their reliability. I have never had a SanDisk card failure, even in the toughest of shooting conditions. You also get a free download of their excellent image recovery program, just in case there ever is an emergency. However, after using SanDisk cards for over 12 years, I am well pleased and will buy no other brand for commercial work.

Nice SD card for the price! Good speeds, not great.

I’ve been a longtime DSLR user (CompactFlash), so going from the high-speed cards (100+mb/sec) to the somewhat slower cards has been a big change. With the prices dramatically jumping (from 40mb/sec to 60mb/sec to 80-90mb/sec), I purchased a few of each.The 60MB/Sec card seems to be a good speed – it definitely feels faster than the 40MB/sec card (about 50% faster) but noticeably slower than the 80-90MB/sec cards.You probably won’t notice much of a difference when shooting (most cameras wont write to the card at this full speed) but you will notice it when downloading pictures to your computer. If you shoot only a couple GB at a time, I wouldn’t spend too much more for the faster speeds but if you’re shooting 10+ GB you’ll want the faster speed.The price jump from the 60MB/sec to the 80-90-95 MB/sec cards is quite a bit, so I can’t really recommend that.. but the jump from the 40MB/sec cards to the 60MB/sec cards is only a few bucks and you’ll appreciate it. I regret buying some of my 40MB/sec cards.

Works with 3DS XL

I got this to put in my Nintendo 3DS XL and had Zero issues just pulled the old one out and put this (32GB) in and it worked as simple as that. My system is noticeably faster and loads games in a flash. I was going to get the “old” version but decided why not get the best SD card I could. Very happy with this purchase.

Sandisk Extreme - Money’s worth

2+ years and still going strong. I use this in my Nikon DSLRs interchangeably. No issues with lagging to scroll through photos taken a single second ago.

I was looking to add more space for my camera to get ready for the holidays. This worked out great! Plus, when I transfer the pictures to my computer, it does it very quickly!
