Product Reviews

Fantastic product!!!! KINDLE USERS READ THIS REVIEW!!

Okay, I’m VERY technologically unsavy ( I’m basically a cavewoman ) so please excuse the lack of any real knowledge about this stuff. Normally I wouldn’t even leave a comment because I don’t know anything, but this time I had to say something for all the KINDLE USERS out there. YOU CAN LOAD YOUR PHOTOS DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR KINDLE FIRE WITH THIS!!!!! I didn’t know if it would work or not when I ordered it, but after the memory card reader arrived in the mail, this is EXACTLY WHAT I DID… I took the memory card out of my camera and put it in the slot in the reader, then I attached the Amazon USB ADAPTER so it would fit in the smaller port I think it’s called. Then I plugged it in.( to my 4th generation HD) That’s all there was to it!! Now all my pictures and videos are on my Kindle, I’ve been able to print out an entire albums worth of memories that were trapped for far too long!! SO TO ALL THE KINDLE USERS OUT THERE, THIS IS WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR!!

Good, but ….

This card reader can read SD, SDHC and microSD (two different slots), the price is right and Sandisk tech support is easy to reach. However, my unit would NOT read any SD or SDHC disk I had UNTIL I figured out with Sandisk tech support, that you CANNOT push the disk in all the way until it is seated. You can only push it in until the LED light comes on and if you push past that point, the card’s contacts will go past the reader’s contacts and the connection is lost. The most annoying thing is that there is no detente or click or anything, you just have to “play with it a little” to get good contact. The microSD reader slot works fine however if you push the card all the way in.Sandisk acknowledges a design issue with the card reader and said they talked to their engineers about changing it. I probably won’t bother to return as it does work, but this is not what I expected.

Covers all you SDHC and microSDHC needs and then some

I bought one of these years ago when the SD (Secure Digital) standard had a capacity of 2 GB, and went as high as 4 GB. I loved it…it was so small and convenient compared to other card readers at the time. When the new SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) standard, which covers 4 GB to 32 GB came out, I bought the newer model without hesitation. At the time I’d never used the microSD slot, and it was probably another year or so before I realized it didn’t support the microSDHC cards. Again, I bought the newer model without hesitation. Now that this one supports SDHC and microSDHC, I’m good to go until the newer standard comes out (SDXC 32 GB to 2 TB), and I will probably buy another one without hesitation.Sandisk gets it right: I’m not sure if it’s because Sandisk was one of the original developers of the SD and microSD standards, but I’ve looked at a lot of these card readers over the years, and I haven’t found one yet that is as compact and robust as these MobileMates. With the two slots in these you don’t have to carry adapters, and they cover a wide range of standards to fit all your needs (until a newer standard comes out anyway).

Sturdy enough that I bought it again!

I had my first of these for a few years. Another reviewer mentioned a pin sticking – it’s the switch that lets the reader know you’ve actually inserted a card, and mine failed in the same way, over a year into ownership. Fairly easy to fix, but it’ll probably happen again. Eventually I left the plastic casing off of mine and just had a bare circuit board sticking out of my computer. This got kicked a few times, and otherwise just kind of trashed. At one point the USB connector was at a 45 degree angle or so to the board, I just bent it back. Kept on working. My old one still does work, in fact, but the ‘pin’ problem was getting to the point where I had to fix it every use or so. I’m sure this one will fail in the same way, eventually. When it does, it’ll be quick to fix and keep running for a good while longer. I have faith that it won’t fail in any other way. And while it’s working, it works well. Looking at my other options, I was happy to buy this Mobilemate again. A four star product as long as you’re the least bit of a tinkerer, willing to bend that switch back into position when it inevitably gives up the ghost.

Inexpensive, compact and works like a dream

I recently misplaced the connection cable for my Kodak Digital camera and perused both Amazon and eBay for a replacement cable only to find pretty much only large, bulky, expensive camera docks. Cables get lost and are bulky and get tangled with things so my attention then turned to an SD Card Reader, although I didn’t think it would be as portable as a connection cable. I happened upon this item and new instantly that if it worked, it would be perfect.Sure enough, it works perfectly. I have not used it for Micro SD, but SD only with 2GB Memory Card filled only with jpg images. Essentially what this device does is turn that SD card into a thumb drive to upload directly to your computer and download from your computer to the SD card. Being so small it can fit just about anywhere and it makes the SD card much more versatile. This thing is a steal for the price and even if you don’t have a use for it now, once you have it, I’m going to be you would use it and get $9 of value out of it.

Dead SImple, Plug-n-Play™

Have used this one for years, and recently purchased another as a gift for my tech-averse stepdad. Using this, he’s able to look at pictures from his camera on his TV - - he thinks I’m some kind of genius for knowing about this. Please don’t tell him the truth.

As Expected

I just bought a new DSLR camera and ended up discovering that while my two laptops and PC recognize SD cards they don’t recognize the SDHC that’s recommended for the camera. After a bit of research I spotted this device and, because of the SanDisk branding on it, decided to give it a go.Along with providing a micro SD/SDHC slot it also has the mini SD/SDHC so it covers my cell phone memory card AND my DSLR card which is great bonus. I was a bit surprised that it didn’t come shipped in any type of retail package (it was just in small plastic bag with UPC and part number stickers) but that’s par for the course with some “fulfilled by Amazon” items.I’m so happy with the reader I’ll be adding a second to my wishlist so I can keep one with my desktop and another in my camera bag.
