I used this today to pump out several kayaks and was amazed at how much water it pumped on every stroke! This is the best kayak pump I have ever owned. The flotation collar and the bright yellow body keep it from sinking if it happens to fall off the boat. One note of caution; The information states that a one-inch ID hose can be attached to extend the discharge. If you want to add this, get a one and one-eighth inch ID bilge hose, as you will find that the one inch hose will NOT FIT!Otherwise, an excellent pump!!
Worked well for it’s intended function of removing water from my kayak. I never had issues with it, even with muddy water, I have not used it in salt water, but I assume it would need to be maintained if you use it in salt water. It floats just in case you drop it, and it shoots the water far enough that no hose is needed to clear the edge of the kayak, although it would be very easy to attach a flexible tube purchased from a hardware store to it.It worked well for the year I had it, until the time I sold it with my kayak.
This little thing can move some water !!!! You could practially use this as a water gun it throws water so far. I tested is on a 5 gallon bucket of water and I emptied it in less than a minute. I”m using it in a Jon boat rather than hooking up a bilge pump. Much less money and less to go wrong. After using it one time out in the water I decided there is no need for to connect a tube on the outlet. It seriously throws water 10 feet.
The pump works as advertised, floats, and came on time. However, only the output valve is listed at 1” diameter. The input valve is the one that is more of interest if you are trying to get water out of other areas of your kayak. This is larger than 1”. It’s about 1-1⁄8” for the opening.
Works exactly as intended! I attached a clear, 2-foot PVC tube to the nozzle and that makes it easier to get ALL of the water out of the boat. Without the tube it still works fine, but water will inevitably splash on your legs as you are bailing.Admittedly, I use this more often to discreetly pump water into friends’ boats without them noticing. It works great for that too.
This is a little bigger than I was hoping for, but not too big to easily fit on the kayak under the front or back bungee straps. This does a great job at pumping a large amount of water out of the kayak in a short amount of time. Water pumps out during both pumping in and out action. It has a foam cushion around it which also helps it float if it falls out of the kayak or god forbid you tip.
I finally got to use the bilge pump during a safety and rescue class. My kayak was filled 3⁄4 way with water and it took a while (more than 5 minutes) to empty the boat - even at the claimed 8 gpm. I also noticed once the water is below bottom blue plastic end cap, air will start to get siphoned in through that seam. I supposed you can seal that seam with silicon.I also got a spray bottle of silicon lubricant and apply it after each use & clean.Overall, good product. Just set the expectation that the bilge rate may not be as fast as you imagine it to be.
My sister did not think this would do us any good, but the first time we took it out we hit some big waves in our canoe and took on a lot of water. There was no place to pull over and dump the water from the canoe, but it’s ok because this pump saved the day. With minimal effort she used the pump and in a short time the canoe was empty and we continued on with our trip. Some people want a hose on this pump but to me that would just be something to get lost it works great without one. Love this pump and will have it on all my trips.
there should be a hose with it like the rest… i dont think ill buy any more seattle sports products….
Much heavier and larger than I expected. I haven’t had to use it yet but I’m not looking forward to lugging it around in my canoe.
Very basic item that works wonderfully. Could be a life saver while out on the water. Glad I got it.
Light, compact, simple to use.
GOOD QUALITY
Works as advertised. It has a really good pumping action that will quickly vacate the water from your water vessel.
Works great!
nice touch.
I’m only giving four stars because, well, it’s just a pump and fortunately I’ve never had to use it. However, it will work!
comments powered by DisqusNever actually used it to pump out a boat, just tested it about weekly. It sat strapped to a kayak for 3-5 hours per week, and during a test the other day the rod easily pulled…
