Good radio and car kit for the price

I bought the Sirius Stratus 7 radio on Black Friday for an extremely low price. The kit includes everything you need to install the radio in your vehicle. The installation takes some time if you want to hide the wires running through the car. I didn’t use the stick-on mount because I couldn’t find a flat, smooth surface within reach on my dash. I used the vent clips instead. It holds the radio OK but you can’t press the buttons forcefully without shifting the unit.I’ve had no problems with the plug connections on the dock. Leave a little slack in the power and antenna wires for times when the radio shifts around (over bumps, removing the radio from the dock, etc.). When you run the antenna wire into the car, make sure it only comes in contact with the rubber gasket and not a sheet metal edge. The wire is intentionally thin so it will easily bend and slip behind interior plastic trim. Don’t crush or stretch it. The power cord on the PowerConnect kit needs to extend to the longest length possible. It’s the FM transmitter wire. If you coil it up you lose much of the FM signal.The FM modulator isn’t all that powerful so you have to find a quiet channel in the FM band. That can be difficult in metro areas. The Stratus 7 has 5 FM presents so you may need to change the transmitter frequency if you drive moderate distances. That can be a pain but there are accessories for direct input to your car radio. Also be sure to go into the Stratus 7 menu and turn up the volume to maximum. I notice a big difference between the satellite radio volume and the over-the-air volume.The Stratus 7 appears to be a price leader for Sirius radio. They don’t make much money on the initial purchase but they are more interested in the subscription. It doesn’t have a lot of features, but you get all the Sirius channels in the basic subscription. I got a 6-month trial subscription for $5 a month plus tax. That will go up to as much as $14.99 a month after the trial period. You get a discount if you sign up for a year. SiriusXM will deduct automatically from your credit card so if you decide to cancel, make sure they stop the deduction. With your Sirius subscription, you also get access to the Sirius internet channels. So you can listen at home or work without needing to hook up a radio indoors.

No More A la Carte Subscription Option

I have no problem with the quality of this radio. However, like some other buyers, I learned the hard way that the A la Carte subscription package is no longer offered for this radio. As of today, the SiriusXM website says that it is, but it is inaccurate. Even the SiriusXM online store where you can buy this radio indicates that it is A La Carte package capable, but that is not the case. SiriusXM phone representatives and the online activation system will not allow you to select the A la Carte subscription option for this radio. If you want the A la Carte subscription package, which is the package that offers the best value, you will need to select a different SiriusXM radio. I hesitate to even mention the other radios here in the event that SiriusXM abrublty changes their specifications again. You should speak to a SiriusXM representative first before selecting a radio that is compatable with the A la Carte package.

A must buy

I am happy with this purchase. At first glance at the radio it looked like a toy; I was doubtful it would work. However, it works great, I installed the antenna in my car, carefully running the wire inside my SUV. The radio can be attached to the air vent in the car, or attach it to your dashboard or window. I recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have great local stations in your area.

A great little ol’ radio for not a lot of moola!!

I wanted to have a satellite receiver in my latest vehicle without the hassle of replacing the audio system I have already. This little unit has all the features I wanted, just basic radio tune and favorite settings. I didn’t have a problem installing the cradle to my vent.I also am running with the antenna on the dash with no reception problems.(As a side note: the receiver’s LCD display baclight is EXTREMELY bright. It comes defaulted to the highest setting. The light almost took away my night vision.)This Stratus 7 receiver is a wonderful value for the money.PROS: Basic function, favorite channel setting is easy(hold a number button down for 2-3 seconds), clear and crisp audio.CONS: As noted, the unit comes with the display’s backlight on high(to decrease - press the menu, then scroll to settings and press Sirius dog button. Scroll down for display and audio options.) The display updates slow and when you change channels the display scroll is stodgy and get jumbled when going too fast.Just set the favorites, you won’t regret it!!)

Good bare bones radio

After six years of daily use, my Sportster finally died. I replaced the Sportster with the Stratus 7 and I’m happy with the radio. The Stratus 7 is a bare bones radio with few features. What I miss from the Sportster is the memory function and the 30 presets. The Stratus 7 has 10 presets and no ability to remember your favorite songs.Installation is easy enough with a couple of different options to mount the radio with the included vehicle kit.

Needed another vehicle kit - buy the whole thing to save money

I have the Stratus 6 and needed another vehicle kit. A standalone kit is almost as expensive as just buying this and selling the radio on ebay. The radio base this is the upgraded universal that supports Stratus 6, 7, and the Onyx line.

I got a really nice price break on an open-box unit but every item that was supposed to be in the box was there and in perfect working order. Thanks, Amazon!This certainly isn’t a fancy receiver but it gets the job done, especially for someone like me who really only listens to 3-4 channels anyway. Browsing isn’t especially easy but it wasn’t hard to get my presets entered and I am quite pleased with this more minimalist approach.
