What is in the box? 1x Ulanzi Smartphone Video Rig
_______I do video reviews on Amazon and my YouTube channel but I don’t get paid for them so I work on a very tight budget. I would love a BEASTGRIP but at $200 its not in the bank. This Ulanzi was the meal ticket at only $19.98. I laugh at the product photo showing this $20 grip mounted with a $170 video light and a $250 Rode mic, seems out of proportion, how about a $30 Neewer CN-160 video light and a $30 TakStar SGC-598 mic (what i have). It is made of plastic and does have some flex to it but overall feels study enough and works very well for me. Most my shoots are tripod mounted but when I need to break it off and have someone handhold it, works excellent.I did do two modifications. I added a $7 Bluetooth camera trigger sold here:Hapurs Bluetooth Wireless Remote Control Camera Shutter Release Self Timer for iPhone 7⁄7 Plus 6/6s Plus 5S 5C 5, iPad Air Mini,Samsung Galaxy S7 S6 Edge S5 Tab and SmartphonesAnd I built my own Sunscreen Bonnet Hood to keep sun glare off the phone screen. I used sheet plastic that I formed with a heat gun then mounted to the top bracket of the phone holder with double sided adhesive tape. You can buy sun screens for smartphones on amazon from $15 to $25. Mine cost me under a $1.____I.D. (Indiana Dan)thank you for reading/watching_______
As a smartphone holder that has shoe mounts for you to put a light or microphone, this is phenomenal for the price. If you are debating between a cheaper option such as this or something along the lines of an iographer or some other smart phone rig then this cheaper option may work for you. There are a couple of things to be aware of though. First, the phone does not fit snug or fully secure in the system. If you are looking for something to walk around with and have a two grip stabilization then I would look elsewhere. If you are only using this on a tripod then this will absolutely work for you.
I use the ulanzi Smartphone Video Rig with an iPhone 7. I also an iOgrapher product that perform the same function for my iPad Air 2. The ulanzi compares well to the iOgrapher and is a better fit for the iPhone 7 at this time. The product is well made, sturdy and easy to adjust. The moving components look like they’ll hold up to constant use. I really like the fact that it has a metal threaded tripod mount on three sides so my phone can be used horizontally or vertically. It also has metal reinforcement on the two accessory shoe mounts. I wish there were three shoe mounts on top. The clamp held my precious iPhone securely and I didn’t worry about it falling out. Also, I didn’t have to take off my iPhone case to mount it in the ulanzi. There was some side to side movement when I touched my phone, but it was stable during shoots. There is plenty of room to use a lens mount adapter for wider angle, telephoto or macro shoots. Overall, I’m really delighted with the quality and functionality of the product. It’s a great buy at about 1⁄3 the price of the competitor’s product. I highly recommend.
This rig does what I bought it to do - bring together my phone, mic, and light - but I live in constant fear that my phone will fall out of the rig. It wobbles and shifts incessantly when it’s by itself but it really becomes unstable when I attach my Moondog Anamorphic Lens. I basically set it up on a tripod, gingerly press record, and back away for fear even a gesture’s whisper breeze will cause it to move or fall out. It works for now, but I’m definitely on the hunt for something more secure.
I cannot even begin to talk about how much I LOVE THIS RIG. They thought of everything! I have a place for a light and mic. The ONLY thing, my otter case is a bit big and it does not fit as snug as I would like in the phone holder. It has fallen out. Again, it is due to my phone case. When I took the case off, it held snug. I just wish they would allow for a bit larger case on your phone. Other than that, this is awesome! I would recommend this to anyone that uses their phone for video.
Love the design. Feels comfortable and balanced in my hands. Lightweight but still pretty sturdy. Only reason it didn’t get 5 stars from me is because with my phone case it doesn’t sit flush when centered and will sometimes wiggle if I don’t secure it super tight. And when I do clamp it really tight the volume buttons keep getting pressed making me take unwanted pictures constantly. Solved the issue by sliding phone slightly left/right to avoid touching any of the buttons.
does what it says. I was impressed that it wasn’t the name brand one, and it still works so good and is VERY durable!
I got this as a simple way of doing easy, on-the-go vlogs without having to bring my camera. I especially liked it because of the two cold shoe mounts on the top for a microphone and anything else (product pictures show lighting) and the fact that it could be mounted on a tripod. My phone is a Galaxy Note 5, which makes for some issues. Larger phones will have an issue fitting onto the rig because they can get in the way of the handles. My phone also has a case on it, meaning it has struggles fitting into the holder itself. That is fixed upon me removing the thick case (which I have for protection). Basically, if you have a regular sized phone this is perfect for your phone.
I loved this machine works as described.
Good and nice
Fits good with my phone will give it a try this weekend!
Works great!Only con: it’s a little cheaper quality than expected, but it is only a $20 accessoryGood investment for church use
Really a great product. Can use it for any type of video, and it is really easy to hold steady and get good shots with.
I wasn’t able to get the grip tightened down enough to keep the phone from moving - just tapping the phone screen to start recording moved it, and if you try to rotate to portrait…
Works great for LG v10
Useful device. however, the mechanism has to be tightened very had to prevent the phone from slipping out.
Super convenient, well built. Gets a lot of compliments.
comments powered by DisqusPretty cool gadget. It could be a bit more stable with slimmer iPhones like the 6 and 7. It tends to fall out a bit when doing a slight pan motion on the tripod.
