Good first microscope

Bought as a child’s first microscope. It is just that. It is durable to survive the finesse of 4 year old hands, and is fun to use. It is small, really small, which is great for small kids. The slides it comes with are okay too - but the ones you can make yourself will be way better

My grandson was so excited, but we can’t figure …

My grandson was so excited, but we can’t figure out how to make it work so we can see the slides. I’m excited too. I had one when I was ten and took it apart, lost a piece and never got to use it. My grandson has more brains.

super tiny and not worth the money!

Please read all the specs, it was not worth the $99 I paid for, it’s very small, it says it has a metal base, well…it’s very well hidden, it looks like a very cheap microscope made in a cheap factory in China. The case is very basic too. More like a toy than a real beginners microscope.

Great starter that can be used even in high school.

I bought this for my niece as a birthday present. At first i was skeptical when i heard she wanted something sciency for her birthday, but i was more then happy to purchase it if there was even a chance of her using it. I think its important to encourage little girls into any career/interest path they choose. Overall this is a nice starter kit and the microscope is great cause she can use it all the way up to and through high school. Everything seemed pretty sturdy and it had everything one needed to make their own slides. I looked through just about every microscope on amazon before i settled on this one and im glad i did.

Nice gift set.

Bought as a gift for my 10 years old. Looks nice. Have almost everything to start using it right from the case.

Great scope for a reasonable price

I purchased this for Science class for a 7th grade home schooler. I was very pleased to see the quality of the microscope. It arrived with all advertised contents, as well as a few extras. It even has a plastic cover to protect the eye piece. The focus buttons are just the right size and easy to use. It magnifies to the advertised 1200x. It even has a light, which you turn off by flipping the light over so that the mirror is showing. The only thing I didn’t like was the “knife” which doesn’t even scratch paper, but that’s to be expected with so many different ages using the scope. I recommend it for basic science microscope use.

Shame on the Smithsonian

While I realize this is an inexpensive microscope, I still expected a product Smithsonian would put their name on would be a little better quality, While the frame could, understandably, be cheaply made, I would think at least the lens and lighting quality could have been better. I am really disappointed and would not recommend.

A window on the world

The microscope was bought as a gift for a seven year old boy. Its purpose was to support his curiosity about the world around him with an introduction to the world of microscopy. While is was novel it was a fascination, but then the novelty wore off. Then it became an investigative tool into the world of wee little things. He would take it out to answer his questions about the structure of butterfly wings and feathers. He got to take a close look at dust, and at the stuff the accumulates on windows, necessitating their cleaning. Of course, having parents who would support his quest to find his own answers and help him with the process also helped.

could not bet the price. plan to give this …

Don’t know to much about it yet. It is for a Christmas gift, but just looking at it, I am sure it will be a great gift for my grand son.

My 16 year old son loves this kit. We have tons of fun looking at all kinds of things.

best setting is 600x lots of fun and my 7 …

1200x is not totally clear. best setting is 600x lots of fun and my 7 yr old daughter can’t wait to put different things under the scope.

It really fell apart

I guess I can’t review lower than one star. It fell apart what an amazing waste of money and they assisted in messing up my sons Christmas.
