Excellent Amplifier! I also have the SMSL Q5. I liked it so much I decided to give this one a try. Has more power and features than the Q5 and looks good also. Bluetooth quality is excellent and has plenty of range. Both good, but this is definitely a step up from the Q5. Shipping was also faster than expected.
Great little amplifier, my first foray into setting up my own speaker system. Using this to power Micca MB42X’s, which is a complete overkill for them (10 out of 59 volume is more than load enough)..but maybe I’ll have something more powerful in the future. I’m running an optical cable from my computer to the amp, had some issues with the aux input where there was audible noise especially at higher volumes, but only from my computer, sounded fine if I hooked up my phone to it.
Works well enough with my 20+ yr old Tannoys.Small footprint on the table and the huge brick-sized power supply can be hidden out of view.Like what many reviewers mentioned, the bundled remote is cryptic.
A great unit. Has some audio hum on the analog input, but other inputs work fine and the audio is clean.
I was looking for a small amp and speakers for the houseboat. I was a little sceptical about how small it is. Purchased this amp with a pair of Bose 201’s and WOW. This little amp can really drive the 201’s! I use fiber opti connection for the tv which I also use for Pandora. Very impressed.
Sounds good. Nice enough price. The only problem is there is a port labelled on the back COAX/OPTI1, and the manual states it takes a Coaxial cable into this port. It does not. As you can see from the picture, and as I confirmed after I bought the device, Coaxial cable does not fit. A coaxial end has a collar but the port on the device has no holder for the collar. See pics.
A really midrange-premium feel to this little guy, and the Bluetooth functionality is a huge plus. Sound is excellent, practically the same as the Q5 Pro which this is replacing, but be warned as these digital amps sound very transparent and cold at first listen. The endemic “warmth” from more traditional DAC->amp setups is noticeably absent here, and it’s a little jarring at first. But to my ears, the sound is brutally accurate and becomes very agreeable once I’m adjusted. Minus one star because the remote doesn’t come with a battery out of the box, and my upsampling settings killed the USB audio and had to be disabled, which was not the case for the Q5 Pro (might have something to do with this one displaying the sample rate).
nice equipment
I am surprised at the sound quality…fairly clean and transparent, with less distortion than I would have expected.
