E 35mm F1.8 OSS Prime Lens High performance and a compact design make the SEL-35F18 an ideal “second lens” that is easy to carry around when capturing the action. It’s ideal for a wide variety of photos, including snapshots while strolling, night shots (thanks to the bright maximum aperture) and portraits with superb background/foreground blur.
Technology
Circular Aperture When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration.
Aspherical lens elements Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are exceedingly difficult to produce, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and precisely achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality.
Lens-based optical image stabilization Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur. The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills.
Additional Features Internal focusing Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter.

I’ve owned my Sony a6000 for almost a year now and plan on building up my lens collection. This is the first lens that I’ve bought aside from the two lenses I got with the camera (16-50 and 55-210). I’ve only played around with it for a day, but the quality is amazing and I can tell right away this is going to be a game-changer for my photography. As an amateur, I can’t go into much detail about the specifics of why this lens is making me so happy, but what I can do is provide pictures for you to decide!
An excellent lens. Tack sharp and very quick to focus. Also with the OSS, have hands held down to 1⁄8 of second with no problem.
Love this lens! if you have just a standard 50mm lens, you must have this one as well. To be honest, after I bought this lens a few years ago I used my 50mm lens only a few times because this one is much-much better (except the cases when the subject stands too close to you)
Now my default lens.
great lens
Bought it for a friend of mine who owns a Sony A6300..I’ve already purchased this for my Sony A6000. The lens is amazing and portable. F1.8 aperture and 35mm is a go to lens
Super fantastic lense! Bokeh here is superb! Great little prime lense!
Awesome lens!! I love it, it takes extremely sharp photos. I was on the fence about this and the sigma for a long time but im glad i chose this. Definitely recommend it, just pay the higher cost and get what you pay for
Used for street photography, very sharp, good lens
Tack sharp - compared it to kit lens via Lightroom, and I was actually surprised how good the kit lens was, but this was sharper.
loved the lens
Much more powerful than the 16-50mm lens that my camera came with. I get better bokeh and can get better shots.
great lens
Hit or miss with sharpness. I also have a 35 Sigma Art for my Canon Mark IV and I’ve found that 35 often mis-focuseses. You’d have better luck with 24-70.
Extremely crisp and gives a very cinematic portrait
Love this lens.
Fast and accurate autofocusing on my Sony a6500. Beautiful bokeh and superb low light performance. Sharp edge-to-edge, even at wide open. Great for photography or filming.
