Size:55-Inch True reality comes to life with perfect black and color. Sony’s OLED TV creates exquisite, unprecedented contrast with over 8 million precisely and individually controlled self-illuminating pixels. Immerse yourself completely in the entertainment with sound that comes from the entire screen, with the world’s first Acoustic Surface.
I picked up my 55” on Easter Monday 2017 from BB and have been testing it all week. To be honest, I’ve never seen anything like it!Let’s start with the design even though it’s subjective. The A1E has very minimalistic design. It seems Sony looked to a Bauhaus design credo when designing the set i.e. “form follows function”. Sony obviously wants you to focus on the picture and the picture only. That’s why there is virtually no bezel. In fact there is virtually no bulk to the TV. The TV disappears behind the screen. The stand is very well designed, heavy and solidly built. You will never feel like the TV is going to tip over. The connections are thoughtfully designed and cable management is fantastic with clips that keep cables together just below where they connect to the TV on the rear stand. The angle on the screen is so minimal that I barely noticed. As far as picture quality is concerned, it’s the best I’ve seen since the days of the Pioneer Kuro plasma’s. This TV has picture quality that rivals and in some cases surpasses those Plasma’s. The motion processing of the TV and it’s 4k upscale capability far surpasses any LG OLED I have ever scene. HD sources are beautifully upscaled but I would say that one definitely needs to calibrate the TV in order to get the best out of it. I also have a 4K PVR at home and Broadcast 4K looks phenomenal, especially sports. Netflix 4k UHD and Amazon Prime 4k UHD also look amazing. I tested “The Grand Tour” on Amazon Prime, the episode where they are in dune buggies in Namibia and it felt like I was there. I also tested out an Alien Bluray 4k transfer which is probably one of the best contrast torture tests you can give a TV. All I can say is it was phenomenal. As far as sound is concerned the TV has fantastic sound out of the box. While I use a Sonos Playbar setup, I did still test the sound out the speakers of the TV initially. I was shocked. The soundstage from the acoustic surface speakers is surprisingly large. Secondly it actually feels like noise is coming out of the characters mouths on this TV instead of from a speaker below. So all in all I would say that Sony has hit it out of the park for their first OLED. I am ecstatic. This is my first jump into 4K and into OLED and I won’t be looking back. No regrets at spending the money.
I agree with “Nylon.” This is best TV I have seen. It replaces Sony’s first 4K from 2013, which I liked.I ordered it shipped to Minnesota from Illinois authorized dealer. It very well packed for protection. It takes two to get it out of the box and attach a few parts. I love Sony, but they seek to save paper and WORDS for instructions… including the bulk of instructions on line. They won’t even dedicate instructions ON THE TV. You push a button on the remote labled “help” and it applies to features you may or may not have. How much money does this save us?Every input looks improved. HD blu-ray ✔️ Direct TV 4K✔️ Netflix 4K✔️… Direct TV live baseball Wow!Sound from tv is amazing (excellent). I’m using Sony receiver for 7.1 sound with a 4K blu-ray player. The new 4K disks are…amazing. The slight tilt prevents reflections on the screen for me. It looks great… like a black slate or mirror. It is art. There is a lot of control available but you must find it. Sony hide and seek. Amazon 4K is dazzling, Apple TV is… again amazing with no 4K. That is due on next issue. I love the cable cord management.
Purchased from BB on Apr. 25. Delivered and un-boxed by the Geek squad on the 28th. I’m sure I am lucky not to have any noticeable flaws, but if this quality level and performance is typical, by all means buy one! This TV is a work of art! The Android OS comes pre-installed with most of the popular apps, but installing more is as easy as on a “cell” phone. The ARC HDMI port (#3) works great with my Panasonic home theater, but the built in speakers are great for everyday use. Paying 4K is a little tough to do, but I don’t regret it.
Wow !!! Got mine from Best Buy yesterday turned out the store in my area got early pre orders yay lol. The tv I see everything you expect from an oled perfect blacks contrast and even the uniformity is extremely good with no dose and banding only visible on test slides not in real content. The big thing for me is this tv as amazing motion the LG motion just didn’t seem right to me it was very juddery but this runs as smooth as the zd9 that I have in the living room I’m very happy with this set
I’ve had a handful of experience with this TV (on a technical and home theater level) and it’s by far the most beautiful display I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot of high-end TV’s, all of which were HDR). Now that doesn’t say much since, well this series is new and the best of the best (kind of like saying “the new iPhone is the fastest ever!”, obviously it will be).Glad to see Sony come back with a bang this year.
Really high quality OLED TV with much better processing than LG’s OLEDs. Even though it has an LG panel, everything looks a lot better on this TV. This TV supports 12-bit color gradation while LG’s OLEDs only support 10-bit (not even in full) and suffer from gradient banding and jittery motion artifacts. Sony’s OLED suffers from none of those issues.
funny to see samsung shills writing fake reviews of something not even out yet. as trump would say, Sad!
Not sure where some negative reviews came from. The picture quality blew us away when we saw it first time at CES in Las Vegas. The black level was absolutely stunning and sound on this TV was incredible.
Like everyone else who left a review for this television, I have not seen it yet because it has not been released.
Discover incredible contrast on an OLED 4K HDR TV with 8 million self-emitting pixels. Pictures are amazingly real with the deepest blacks providing detailed shadow expression and…
Sony 4K TVs they only last over a year then they breakdown and warranty is already expired by then. I would recommend to get Samsung thru Costco (2 year warranty plus another 2…
From the early reviews it appears Sony did a great job with the picture quality of this set. However, I’m going to wait before I pay so much for this TV.
comments powered by DisqusTerrible tv. picture quality bad, no where near as good as my old Panasonic. They don’t make them like they used to.
